An interesting viewpoint. I don’t see the studios being willing to do so, but worth discussing: https://www.trustedreviews.com/opinion/sound-and-vision-physical-media-isnt-dying-but-dvd-should-exit-the-scene-4355569
I understand the decision to consolidate disc distribution as physical media is on the decline, but a few observations:
SDS no longer offers digital copy codes consistently on Canadian releases; and
Release dates, which used to be day and date with American releases, are now 4 weeks or more...
With the recent passing of Ray Liotta, this early actioner of his has been on my mind. The only disc in existence is a non-anamorphic DVD from HBO Video, derived from an LD master. I’d like to think a fresh master could drum up some sales, or even become a streaming favourite. Thoughts? As far...
Just picked up The Bird With the Crystal Plumage for $3.99 Cdn. No extras, but t looks great on my 50" plasma. In Italian with English subtitles, which is fine by me.
Our living room TV is 5 years old and the backlight is flickering for the first 5-10 minutes or so before it stabilizes. How long do I have before it finally craps out? I figure that, given our proximity to Black Friday/Cyber Monday, now might be a good time to shop for a replacement. This is...
Our family is about average for "connectedness" (1 iPad 2, 2 iPod Touches, 3 Android phones, 2 desktop PCs and 1 laptop) on a wireless G network. When I'm out of the house and away from the office, I do like to check the HTF from time to time, but it's really hard to read on my Android phone...
My current receiver is almost 10 years old, Dolby Digital only, and has one optical and two coax digital inputs and no analog inputs. My Toshiba HD A30 is currently plugged into my optical input, so no spare optical for a PS3. I want to upgrade my receiver before plunking down the cash for...
...,at least in Canada. Wal-Mart Canada's flyer for this week is advertising a Venturer HD DVD player bundled with two movies for $199.97. Granted, this doesn't exactly undercut some of the recent deals from Toshiba, but I thought it should be mentioned. I'll try and post a pic once I've got...
While I never condone P/S transfers as a matter of principle, some P/S transfers are SO bad they deserve special mention, so the question is: what is the worst P/S transfer you've ever had the misfortune to see, in any format? One that is right up there for me is My Best Friend's Wedding. The...
I just picked up the Jack Ryan Triple Feature Pack from HMV today and I gotta say that this is the right way to do it: three discs in a single-width keepcase, with two of the discs on the opposite sides of an insert, staggered. No scratching issues here! Warner should actually take a page from...
With Borat having been announced on BD, I thought it would be good to start a thread of titles for which an HD release would be utterly pointless: 28 Days Later Open Water Bamboozled Reno 911: Miami any Dogme 95 films. Anyone want to continue?
I set one of these up for a friend on the weekend and was really impressed with the quality, even at 480i. We set up the DVD player with component cables and were thoroughly impressed with the filmlike quality at 480p. The only downside is that there doesn't appear to be any scaling capability...
Call me crazy, but of all Prince's movies, this one is my favourite. I've checked all the local stores (Future Shop, Best Buy, A&B Sound, even Wal*Mart) to no avail. So far, the only place I've found it is online @ Amazon. Anyone else seen this on the shelves?
I'm asking because this particular version (the 1993 Kenneth Branagh one) is a personal favourite, and I'm having a hard time tracking down online reviews. I'm hoping someone can give me some ideas as to picture and sound quality.
Much as I hate these cases, I find myself in need of replacement one for my Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Does anyone know where I can get these? Two caveats: (1)must be able to buy in small quantities; and (2) company must ship either in or to Canada. Thanks.;)
