Interesting!
The PVB 1 disc does not have forced subtitles on the original English. The 2 disc OOP version does have forced subtitles on the English DTS version. These can be removed on many players.
The UK disc is non-anamorphic widescreen. Very good picture. Cheap too.
Great film! :D
Wildside have a very good history. The English language DVDs I've bought from them do have locked French subtitles but these can be removed on many DVD players easily (on my Toshiba for one).
The German disc (rereleased in an Amaray style case now) is far superior to a 'stopgap' version. It has a great transfer. The USA owner should be Universal.
I was very disappointed to find out about the replacement footage, after having bought the R2 version, and having seen the film uncut in the theater here in the UK. Why didn't you check www.bbfc.co.uk ?
The Region 3 has an excellent anamorphic transfer and the option for dts sound. No extras. There is a NTSC Brazil Region 4 2-disc version available with lots of extras.
Where did you buy the disc? Played fine on my Toshiba 330. Sounds like a disc fault. The disc is definitely Region 3 because I checked (many many Region 3 discs are actually all region/region 0).
I think it's up to the buyer of the insurance to make sure they're getting the correct cover. It's easy to blame others when you don't want to look at yourself.
are you suggesting that all dvd players have a way of overriding the subtitle function on discs where there are no toher options? No. You'll have to search for the details but it's been posted here before.
French only DVDs are meant for French speakers. They are no more likely to have English subs on extras than a Japanese Region 2. I've several French discs where documentaries are in English but they overdub in French. Most French (like most people) don't like subtitles either. Forced...
Is the Last Seduction R2 PAL anamorphic? Which Region 2? There's a lot of countries in R2! The UK and French discs are anamorphic. I own the UK disc and wouldn't update it for image quality. http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=4945...
Why not use the German version of Amazon http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006L4GX/ ? No need to speak German as it has the same checkout as Amazon.com and you can use the same user account. If you insist on paying in US$ I'm sure you can get it on Ebay for 3 times the price.
It's much better than any VHS I've seen and of course it's much much better than nothing. I'd say there is some pan/scan motion but only in 1-2 scenes. Perhaps the picture has been cropped slightly. I'm very happy with it.
I notice the interviews (very good they are too) are produced and directed by Blue Underground. Maybe they'll have something to do with the Region 1 releases of Repulsion and Cul-de-sac.
A definte buy for me.
The October disc is due from Artisan. I'm expecting their usual trash. Let's hope I'm wrong.
There was rumour of an anamorphic release in Germany but it never appeared.
Ebay.fr has many of those discs. Los Olvidados is a very good release with an alternate ending (!). Subtitles on the main film but not on the short. La Voie lactée was due for a release this year in the UK from Canal+/Warner but it never appeared. It was mentioned again for an end of year...
