    Blu-ray Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Poor Things -- in Blu-ray

Does that even exist anymore in today's post-secondary climate, far from healthy learning and debate? If "this" SDS existed, it would be a membership of 1 person. Would that then make this SDS an authoritarian organization? Or a dictatorship without a membership? Probably so, and thus it would...

I'm happily replacing my 2011 Blu-ray and 2007 DVD with this excellent release.

Conan the Barbarian (1982) 4K Arrow Release Discussion

Thank you @Lord Dalek for posting Fake's comments on their project. For all those reading these posts and who aren't as familiar with this film, it's our recommendation here to listen to this film score independently either by the isolated tracks or by picking up the Intrada or discontinued...

Yes, the Intrada CD is missing the tam-tam and it's present on the Varese Sarabande CD (and the mono film as we've known it).

Conan the Barbarian (1982) 4K Arrow Release Discussion

@Lord Dalek I’m assuming you’re referring to the Atmos mix? There were sections in the 5.1 mix where the choir seemed entirely absent or very low in the mix. Are you saying that in these moments the choir is now slightly more audible, or about the same?

Conan the Barbarian (1982) 4K Arrow Release Discussion

I think the intenational cut is the better film if you're thinking of watching the theatrical cut first. The extended cut is an extra minute longer although I can't recall the exact differences other than minor trims restored to selected shots. Someone else may be able to provide greater...

Conan the Barbarian (1982) 4K Arrow Release Discussion

Crazy enough, when I listen to the 2011 5.1 mix when watching the film, my brain fills in the missing choir and I actually think it's there through my speakers. It's so burned in my brain that I hear it anyway!

Conan the Barbarian (1982) 4K Arrow Release Discussion

I received a response from Arrow and I thank them for providing information about it. They wrote that the source for the Atmos mix was Universal's own 5.1 legacy mix. They also had the original mono mix as reference to ensure the new Atmos mix honoured the original treatment. They did enquire...

Thanks @JohnRice . I was trying to use the feature, but it's not working on my computer. It just gives me a blank spot. I'm not sure why that is. I'd rather have it the way you're suggesting.

Conan the Barbarian (1982) 4K Arrow Release Discussion

The 5.1 was created/remixed from the elements. Since Intrada used the "mint condition stereo session" multitracks about a decade ago, we can only assume these multi-tracks have been safely stored (and assumingly available if requested). A new music stem likely could have been created with these...

Conan the Barbarian (1982) 4K Arrow Release Discussion

It was! I'm not crazy, guys :P Reference the DVD release from 2007 that has the Dolby Digital 2.0 mono track. I haven't watched it in years, but my recollection is that it's as similar as can be to those releases in the 1980s. Listen to the restored original mono audio option track on the Arrow...

Conan the Barbarian (1982) 4K Arrow Release Discussion

This is disappointing to hear. A quick internet seach of previous Conan releases would have brought this issue forward to the team at Arrow and it could have been addressed. This is a massive oversight. Did anyone not catch the difference between the restored original mono audio, the isolated...

In the video, it's incorrect. Here's the full track - start at 2min 42 seconds and listen to the end. It's about 3 minutes of music (my link might start there for you). Compare this to the film in the video clip above (start at 1 minute 06 seconds for a direct comparison). It's easy for my...

Conan the Barbarian (1982) 4K Arrow Release Discussion

Neil, I grew up with this film in the 80s with Betamax. The original motion picture soundtrack on the Varese Sarabande CD I purchased in 1992 is most reflective of the mono film experience. Between the CD and the movie, watching it as a kid, I’ve listened to hundreds of times in over the last 35...

Conan the Barbarian (1982) 4K Arrow Release Discussion

@Neil S. Bulk , take a listen to my audio samples that come from the original motion picture soundtrack (as we've all known in the movie throughout the years) and compare it to the Blu-ray that was released in 2011 (the video clip above) that's missing elements. These are only two examples of many.

Specific details of the many errors on the 2011 Universal release can be found elsewhere. A member in another forum I've posted elsewhere posted this summary: If you love this Poledouris film score, pick up the Intrada 3CD release and you'll immediately hear improvements in the score...

Pre-Order THE CONAN CHRONICLES: Conan The Barbarian and Conan The Destroyer (1982-1984) Limited Edition (4k UHD) (Blu-ray) Available for Preorder

I'm eagerly awaiting this title to arrive. I'm grateful that Arrow Video has created a fresh 4K scan on this film. Preliminary reviews of the video quality is overwhelmingly positive. That’s a very dismissive comment towards @Nathan_H for someone who, only six posts ago, exclaimed was not shutting down conversation on the topic. @Nathan_H thank you for your comment. Thank you, as it should be! 👍 Hang on, my friend. I placed no blame on anyone in my previous posts. I am also not labelling anyone, but just calling out either “like it” or “dislike it.” Pro-AI = a person likes the AI results Pro-4K scan of OCN without algorithm = dislike the AI results...
