A few years back, I was in SF for the first time with my wife to attend a wedding. I hoped to see some Vertigo locations, but didn't have time to plan for it. When we took a bus tour to Napa, we did drive by the (Edit) Palace of Fine Arts.
One time we were walking back to our rented apartment...
We watched it this week, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very suspenseful and thought-provoking (I won't spoil any plot points). And, as Robert noted, the cinematography is gorgeous.
The 2019 theatrical presentation of TMP was stunning, both picture- and audio-wise. I bet that was the 4k master that's been used for the new releases.
As a life-long Trek fan, but one who has not yet upgraded my display to 4K, I've been reading about this release with interest.
And, as always, I love reading your opinions. It's probably my dense brain, but I'm not sure I understand the above comments.
Do you think the lower resolution is...
I wonder if the first film is the same as the 4K previously released. On the Shout! site, it lists "original mono", and there was dissatisfaction that previous release's "mono" was a fold down.
My wife correctly pointed out that the main character chose her lifestyle. She didn't want to be stuck in one place with possessions like she had for decades with her husband. Now, many of the other characters were destitute and possibly would have chosen a more settled life if they had the...
Thanks for the link. I watched it several times. Are we sure frames are missing there? It looks to me like Eddie Albert's camera flash just at the moment when she first connects the guitar to his head.
We watched it On-Demand last weekend. It was indeed a powerful film, hard to watch, but thought-provoking and rewarding. As always, Monae did an outstanding acting job.
This is probably old news to folks here, but the new Criterion HD versions of Brute Force and Naked City are available to stream via HBO Max. I've never seen either film, and wanted to sample them. Based on the first few minutes of Brute Force, the video and audio quality are very good, but...
Hi All. If you go to the DVDBeaver site, you'll see a letter from Gary about how he's been losing money and asking again for folks to support him via Patreon or PayPal. It seems like he's close to shutting down.
Although I rarely use the site anymore, and really don't buy many discs anymore...
I wanted a seat near the center of a row, and most of those seats were taken. It wouldn't let me choose a single seat (couldn't talk my wife into going) that only had one empty seat between mine and other sold seats. So, my only options were way off to the side, or in the center of rows 1 or...
Call in sick and go. We'll cover for you at the office.;)
This was my first Fathom event, and I wondered how they'd handle the reserve seating. I had to choose a seat in the second row. I tried it, but I was craning my neck back and the screen was at an odd angle. So, I moved one row back...
I saw it today. I've never seen TMP in a theater, so it was a treat. The film really works better on the large screen, where the epic scale is more appropriate.
It started with The Longest Trek from 2009, which is found on the blu-ray.
As to the film itself, the image was very good. It made...
Over the weekend, I ran the Audyssey software again on my receiver to reset the speaker settings. Over the years, I had manually played around with the settings to fix specific "issues" I heard. Well, that managed to muck everything up.
After I reset everything, things sounded much better...
Very nice! You prompted me to look through my Trek paperbacks that I haven't looked at for years. I have the TMP paperback, but don't think I'll re-read it. Roddenberry wrote some embarrassing prose, as I recall.
I finally watched the feature last night and today. The video and audio quality are beautiful, as others have noted.
Thanks to Bob & Team for restoring the Perspecta track. However, I must admit that I prefer the 2.0. I tried the Perspecta last night and again today. Admittedly, my room is...
I was inspired to listen to another MLP SACD tonight. This one lists among the credits:
Recording director: Wilma Cozart
Chief engineer & Technical supervisor: C. Robert Fine
I haven't had time to watch the actual film yet (but hope to do so this weekend). But, I had a little time before bed to peruse the extras last night. It was interesting to read that Robert Fine had a hand in developing Perspecta. And, it was quite a coincidence because earlier in the evening...
One part of me agrees, Josh. But then another part thinks it might be fun to watch it uninterrupted in a theater with other fans. I haven't decided yet...
I was just thinking that, of the original and Next Generation films, I've seen them all in the theater except TMP, First Contact, and...
They've announced the theatrical re-release for September. So, I assume it's based upon a new 4K scan of the theatrical cut that's surely already completed.
The discussions are whether they'll release this new scan on 4K/BD, and whether they'll make the further effort to create 4K versions of...
