    DIY Logos

It's back up, my router went down for some reason. Cheapo probably didn't like the traffic generated from here :) If it goes down again I'll put it up on a more stable location.

    DIY Logos

Thanks :) I actually hunted PE's site for logo's, but they didn't have any. I saw those clock letters when shopping for a matt cutter, and decided to try them out. Other than an ever so slight size difference between the numbers and letters, it all came out nice. They even stuck to the...

    DIY Logos

I duno, I make lots of stuff for my house, from audio to furniture. I always like to make things look such that when people see them, they don't realize I made it. Makes the reaction even better when they ask "Where'd you get that?"

    DIY Logos

Hey everyone, I haven't been around in a while, but I discovered this idea today and thought I would pass it along (unless someones already mentioned them). My goal for my Dayton LoudSpeaker DIY's (set of D3's, 12DVC sub, D-Budget surrounds/center) was to make them look like I purchased them...

    Dayton Budget Parts List

"Robert & Curt's Universal Dayton 3 way Center Channel" Is there a website anywhere? A schematic? If so maybe I can put together a parts list for it together. Also, I ran some numbers and it looks like dual 5.25" daytons or dual 6.5" daytons output about 2db louder accross the board than...

    Dayton Budget Parts List

I wasn't under the assumption that the tweeter needed shielding? It's such a small magnet. As for how my system sounds, everytime I listen to it I'm blown away. While I'm sure there are much better systems on the market (all be it higher priced) that you could build DIY (or retail), I cannot...

Not the usual "connect PC to stereo" question

If not the AV515M cards that are $15 have optical out. Also, doesn't the signal go through the receivers DAC reguardless of the inputs used (unless you use passthrough). I could be wrong, but I thought that was the reason people liked Tube Amps instead of the built in Amp in the receiver.

    s-video or rca cable run

While I have not tested it, I asked this in another forum a couple days ago. The response was 150' ish. Or using something like the BVD-10 as shown on http://www.audiocontrol.com/multi_room.htm But those things are expensive.

    Dayton Budget Parts List

Yup, just finished building them and getting the finish on last night. They sound great. The only thing I did not include that I forgot about because I already had was the eggcrate material for the inside. In my design I went through 2 sheets for 3 speakers.

IR to RF, DirecTV, PVR, Cable length

Thanks! My girlfriend actually had a wonderful idea, which was to keep all the equipment in the theater room and run the long lines to the 32" in the living room. Also, do you know of any good IR/RF brands to look for, or places to shop?

IR to RF, DirecTV, PVR, Cable length

So this is what I like to call a "multipart" question. Currently, I have DirecTV, and two receivers. One in the theater, one in the living room. I'm adding a PVR (MythTV, a lot like Tivo) soon so this is why I'm tailing this out. Here is what I "would" have: 1) Satellite dish has 2 coax...

    Sound Card W/ Optical output

The AV515M. Here is a review of the Chaintech version that I have: http://www.viperlair.com/reviews/mis...av515m_1.shtml A few manufactures make it. Keep in mind, they are reviewing the analog sound out of it. Using Optical, it is just pure data, there is no "quality". It either works or...

    Build-it-yourself PC

Personally, I'd shy toward the Athlon XP's right now. They have the same specs as the P4's and are wads cheaper. They do however run hotter and have slightly louder fans by default on their heatsinks. I agree on the pricewatch thing. You can even find barebones systems there cheap...

    Help with Powerstrip settings!

2 comments: 1) To get back to defaults for a givin resolution, Powerstrip has an pulldown on the right side for "Windows Default". Switch to 800x600, then go into powerstrip and change this. It should work on the TV now. If you uninstall, Powerstrip does not reset things to default, it leaves...

    Shielded 8" subwoofer?

Well, I've convinced him to go farther away from the TV so he can use the Quatro as long as they don't have to be TOO far away. How far do you think I could get away with being? I'll place the sub's as low as possible in the towers. I'm hoping for placement around 1.5-2 feet from the TV...

    Projector/Powerstrip/5.1

Doh! I so read "TV" and not projector. VGA is perfect for projector. However if the projector has DVI and so does the Vid card, I would go that route. Reading text won't be as perfect as a pixel for pixel ratio like you get through the VGA, but a displayed image will have better color.

    Projector/Powerstrip/5.1

It is all true and then some. And its oh so simple. 1) Install powerstrip 2) Set your custom resolution as high as you like and your card/monitor/tv/projector can handle with powerstrip (I run HDTV widescreen resolution to my Panny 300 projector, this is essential if you are using a TV or...

    Audio Out from Sound Card...

Yes, thats the correct way. I also never had any noise issues. I'd recommend picking up a $15 sound card with Optical out. It's just passing digital data, so quality of card is irrelevent.

    My results: HTPC Picture Quality

I use powerstrip in much the same way with my Panny 300 projector. I started off using native res through the VGA port, but found that running an HDTV res through DVI yielded a better picture. It was harder to read text in windows apps, but the picture through Media Player Clasic is amazing.

    Quality analog A/V capture with post-cap H/W MPEG2 compression for <$500?

The Haughpage PVR-250 is an excelent choice. People in the linux community have been building "Tivo" like machines with these for a while. It's got built in hardware MPEG2 and takes in audio, so you don't have to worry about sync. The only thing it won't do is convert your old media. But, the...

I'm not so sure line level converters are a good idea. You'll be feeding an Amped signal into the EQ that is expecting line level.

    PowerDVD problem (won't play)

Very odd.... Try making sure the Play Full Screen option is unchecked and see if it will play in a window. Perhaps its got a conflict with your current resolution. If screencaps are all you want, open the DVD in Media Player Classic or any old program, then do an Alt-PrintScreen (captures to...
