    SVS PB2-Ultra Test & Review

That's awesome! Can't wait to see what you come up with! And still hoping for pictures of the other finishes (better check the svs site before I make a request that's already been fulfilled :-)). Thanks, Jeff

Wahoo! SVS addressing the $400 market...PB10-ISD coming

Tom: That makes perfect sense (no point in giving them a head start) :-). I haven't seen the inevitable question(s) such as, "Would 2ea PB10-ISD have more output than 1ea PB1-Plus" and those sorts of things. I'm a closet bass guy who has yet to "out" himself by actually buying a...

Wahoo! SVS addressing the $400 market...PB10-ISD coming

It could well be (and more likely is) my mistake. My recollection of reviews of the "tunable" subs seemed to use the word "tune", as in, "I plugged one port to try the 20 Hz tune" (I may not have the numbers right, this was just an example). Thanks, Jeff

Wahoo! SVS addressing the $400 market...PB10-ISD coming

So you're saying that for any new model (given that all the old models have the tuning info in the specs, at least I think so) you will forgoe publishing the tuning? What about cases where you have multiple ports? Will the different tuning combinations be called, "Low", "Med-Low", and "Medium"...

Wahoo! SVS addressing the $400 market...PB10-ISD coming

I'm sorry, but did we ever get an answer to the tuning question I asked a day or two ago? It's probably in there and I just missed it.

Wahoo! SVS addressing the $400 market...PB10-ISD coming

Perhaps I missed it - did one of the fine SVS folks state the tuning (of the PB10-ISD)? I assume it's fixed with the one port? 20 Hz? TIA, Jeff

    SVS PB2-Ultra Test & Review

Ed: First, let me add to the list of people who have thanked you for your incredibly detailed reviews of the SVS PB2-Plus and PB2-Ultra. Next, let me say that I did searcht this entire thread for what I'm about to ask, so I'm not completely lazy, but, I admit that I did not re-read every...

    B&W DS7 Surrounds?

Thanks for the info. You said they were designed "back in the days". They are a brand new speaker that came out concurrently with the 700 series, so I don't think they are old in any way. I'm not sure what you're saying there.

    B&W DS7 Surrounds?

Does anyone own these? Anyone heard them? I'm looking for opinions. How do they sound in monopole vs dipole modes? Anyone using them with the trigger setup? Thanks, Jeff

From Paradigm Studios to PSB Stratus, a lateral move?

Actually, I might be a little worried about the Jolida front end. I'm too lazy to look it up, but if it's got a tube stage, I _suppose_ (not necessarily, but it's possible) there could be some frequency response anomalies that may be an issue for you. If you have another source component you can...

From Paradigm Studios to PSB Stratus, a lateral move?

I know this is controversial, but I wouldn't put much stock in that notion that different amps are going to change anything for you (not saying it might not, but generally speaking, no). And, as your personal experience shows, that's the case. Your Rotel is fine. You really need to go listen to...

From Paradigm Studios to PSB Stratus, a lateral move?

As an owner of the early VR-4, they are a very easy to listen to speaker. I eventually sold them for Dunlavy SC-IV's, which in an A/B comparison, beat the VR-4 handily (mind you some of that is purely preference). However the VR-4 design has evolved a lot over the last 8 years, and I am actually...

From Paradigm Studios to PSB Stratus, a lateral move?

I have a pair of PSB Stratus Silver (not the newer "i" model) in a second system. I personally like the sound of them better than any Paradigm Studio series speaker I've ever heard (although the Studio 100 v3 gives them a run, I still like the Stratus Silver better - compared to the 40, I think...

When Sub size is an issue...

One sub that multiple people have mentioned is the Kilimanjaro or Denali (Denali is bigger but will have better sub 20 Hz performance). See http://www.acoustic-visions.com/~aco...le_index.shtml

When Sub size is an issue...

Thanks for the additional suggestions and information folks :-) Tom, where did you see review data on the JBL S120 sub (I dropped by a store and bought the June SAAV issue but didn't see anything in there about this sub. Not that I would buy them, but you certainly have me curious)? They...

When Sub size is an issue...

Tom: Thanks for the reply :-). I suspected mine wasn't an original question :-) From the manufacturer's web site The B15 is 17.75 x 20 x 18.3", (note that the latest Revel web site info on the B15a has an error - the depth is not 28.312", it is the 46.5 cm figure, or, 18.3"). The S15A is...

When Sub size is an issue...

Tom V: So, has anyone ever asked before about when (if ever) you plan to come out with a small cube-type sub a la Revel B15, or the Kleiss S15A model being reviewed in the SAAV June issue, or the Pinnacle Kilimanjaro that Jack referenced a few posts above? Or are there simply too many design...

When Sub size is an issue...

Jack: Yes, that looks like a very interesting product (the Kilimanjaro from acoustic visions). Interestingly, it talks about being flat to the mid 20 Hz range. I was hoping for sub 20 Hz response. Seems like the driver has plenty of excursion, but I guess the way the box is tuned, it is...

When Sub size is an issue...

Kevin: Regarding why SVS doesn't show up in this (or other) shootouts: I recall that Stereophile (the 2 channel mag) has some kind of review policy about a product having to be available from at least five dealers or something like that. However they have made exceptions for products...

Who is Kleiss? Anyone own their products?

I finally had the time to look at the Kleiss products referenced in the Stereophile Ultimate A/V subwoofer review in the June issue. Very interesting. The S15A and S18A very capable (and apparently, although I don't have the issue yet, the S15A measured quite well). Has anyone ever _heard_ of...

When Sub size is an issue...

I finally had the time to look at the Kleiss products. Very interesting. The S18A also looks interesting :-). Has anyone ever _heard_ of this company? On the "About Us" page they talk about active studio monitors, but under "Products" I see nothing about this. Also, when you click on any of the...

When Sub size is an issue...

Mark, thanks for the data. Sounds like the B15 is respectable but not outstanding. Hmm. Have to investigate the other one you listed (never heard of it before you mentioned it though). Regarding the Sunfire subs, although I have not investigated measurement data, I don't believe that they...

When Sub size is an issue...

Ok, so I've re-subscribed to the (new) Stereophile Ultimate AV, in the hopes that I get the current issue that reviews the B15. Can anyone share some data from the review? Does the B15 perform? I assume so if the Revel website says that SAV gave it their top rating. Thanks, Jeff

When Sub size is an issue...

Chris: It's possible that your approach might actually work. Unfortunately the only place a sub as an end-table would work is not in a corner. But it's still worth a try :-) Thanks, Jeff

When Sub size is an issue...

Jeff: I looked at the SVS link you provided and re-read the article there (turns out I had actually read that probably a year ago). They seem to make one specific comparison of a tube to a box, but go on to say that it's (words to this effect) virtually impossible to do in a tube what the...

When Sub size is an issue...

Thanks Kevin and Mark about the info on the article in Stereophile UAV. On the Revel web site, they say that the B15 was rated "AAAA" (top rating) but I spent a good 15 minutes searching the site (because it said that this ocurred in the March issue so I assumed it was 3 months ago what with the...

When Sub size is an issue...

Ouch! 115 dB for peaks for the sub. I think TN's measurements of the Seismec 12 show it can do that or close to that starting around 25 Hz, which is pretty impressive for a sub with a nominal 12" driver (more like 10" of moving surface I think). I'll give SVS a call when work slows down a bit...

When Sub size is an issue...

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I probably should have added a little more data and asked another question or two. The room this will go in is 15 x 30 x 8 with about 8 feet of openings at the opposite end of where the sub goes. The seismec 12 is a contender, and has been measured by Tom...

When Sub size is an issue...

I've read with great enjoyment the many positive reviews of SVS and HSU subwoofers. However, I've got issues (don't we all :-)). Issues with WAF and the amount of space the sub takes up that is. So, if my limit was, for instance, a cube that is no larger than 20" on a side, is there a favorite...
