Need help buying an HDTV (2000 bucks to work with)

A friend of mine is looking to spend $2000 US on a new HDTV. This set will be used mainly for video games but DVDs as well. He says he's looking for something no less than 52" He doesn't seem interested in a projector, but if he wants 52 inches or more, isn't that the way to go? He seems most...

Thanks for the reply. How much would something like that cost?

My HDTV blurs slightly on the left and right sides

HDTV - Zenith D36D53 HDTV/Monitor I've noticed that that the far left and right edges are blurry when compared to the center of my screen. It's especially noticeable when I'm using my HDTV as my PC monitor via VGA input at 800x600 (fine text becomes almost unreadable). I've fiddle around...

Why is my HDTV output so "selective"?

Yeah, but unfortunately my wife has been spoiled by progressive scan. Looks like I'll have to get off my lazy ass  Oh well, I wouldn't want to play video games at less than 480p either (unless I absolutely had too, haha) Thanks again, everyone, for your help.

Why is my HDTV output so "selective"?

Nuts. Here was what I was trying to to: a) My wife plays a lot of video games (right now she's working The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker) b) While she plays games, I'm usually on the computer c) I'd like to see what she's doing without having to get up and look around the corner every...

Why is my HDTV output so "selective"?

Here's the deal; I want to have my HDTV (Zenith HDTV/Monitor model D36D53) connected to my PC monitor's (Samsung SyncMaster 170MP) PIP mode. It works great using the line-out (RCA) from my HDTV for viewing cable and VHS tapes, but when I have my pro-scan DVD player, Gamecube, Xbox, or any other...

Thanks for all the replies, guys! Where can I get more info on iScan or Dscaler? I mean, "what are they?" to begin with? Thanks again!

    kill.switch....what's the word?

Played it for a few hours. Like the above poster said, pretty generic. Nothing noteworthy as far as graphics or gameplay goes. However, the sound in this game is AWESOME! If you have a good sound system, I recommend at least renting this one and cranking your speakers. You can really feel the...

HDTV snob needs help with his PS2

Yes, I'll admit it. I can't stand playing games that aren't at least 480p. My TV has a pretty lousy line doubler, so interlaced games look... Like interlaced games :frowning: However, my TV has SVGA inputs and I was wondering if there's some sort of PS2 VGA box (like the Dreamcast had) that...

Is there a device I can buy to convert 720p to 1080i?

My TV is kinda old (2001 manufacture date) John, you said that you can buy scalers to fix this problem? 1000 bucks is kinda steep, but I'm glad to hear there is a solution. Like any other new-technology based electronic item, the price will probably be cut down to 1/10th the price by the...

Anybody? There's got to be some sort of solution :frowning:

Is there a device I can buy to convert 720p to 1080i?

When I bought my Zenith HDTV (D36D53), I was not aware of 720p, and it seems that many of the new games on Xbox are supporting 720p, like Soul Calibur 2, Tony Hawk 4, and the new Grand Theft Auto Double Pack. I was wondering if there was some sort of reciever that I could purchase that could...

A warning about Xbox's Enter the Matrix 1080i HDTV support...

Try turning 1080i off (and 720p, I'm not sure if Enter the Matrix supports this or uses the same dirty trick), and look at the game in 480p; it looks much better. Do the same with Dragon's Lair 3D or Syberia; the games look horrible. Yes, the Xbox is a powerful machine, but there's no way it...

A warning about Xbox's Enter the Matrix 1080i HDTV support...

It's not really 1080i like a lot of people have been saying. What's actually going on is that the game renders everything at 480 and then passes it through a 1080i signal. I rented this game the other day because of the 1080i support and I was sourly disappointed. It's quite obvious on a decent...

changed something in service menu.. now HD input wants to flicker :(

Is there any way to reset my HDTV back to the factory defaults? I changed one option in the service menu and now the HD/progressive input wants to flicker, and when I try to get back into the service menu for that input, it kicks me out. I can get into the service menu for any other of the...

How do I access the service menu on my Zenith D36D53?

Anybody? I have some major overscan/offset image problems that need to be fixed asap! Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Can I use progressive scan dvd...

You can turn progressive scan on or off. If you have a standard, non-progressive TV (interlaced) you won't notice any difference, providing the TV doesn't reject the progressive signal.

How do I access the service menu on my Zenith D36D53?

I have a 36" HDTV/Monitor Zenith (D36D53) and I'd like to tweak some of the settings (I'm getting MAJOR overscan). Anyone know the codes, or maybe a place to find them? Thanks for any help!

Can overly stretched images on my HDTV cause display problems?

I was playing Silent Hill 2 on my Xbox the other day when I noticed that I seem to be missing a bunch of the picture. Text in the menus seem to be cropped off on the left and right by a good 2 inches (36" Zenith HDTV/Monitor). There's no resizing in the basic menus, but I'm just wondering if...

Bypassing my computer soundcard's dolby digital decoding...

UPDATE: I got the Extigy to output a 5.1 signal that my receiver successfully decoded. However, I needed to download a firmware update from www.soundblaster.com I actually emailed creative's tech support about the issue and they replied back with the answer I was looking for within 24...

Bypassing my computer soundcard's dolby digital decoding...

This is the deal: I have my HDTV set as my computer's 2nd display device. My computer's sound card (SoundBlaster Extigy) has optical-output on it and I want to run the sound out to my 5.1 speaker setup placed around my HDTV. The problem is that the Extigy decodes the DD5.1 signal before it...

Please help, I'm at my Wits end! What's wrong with my HDTV? pics incl.

UPDATE: I called Zenith and despite my fears, I'm completely covered for parts and labor (I bought the TV through one of their dealers on Ebay). The tech guy is supposed to be here sometime this friday, so hopefully we can get to the bottom of this... Thanks again to anyone who provided info.

They're always there; still or in motion, but it's much more noticeable when the game is in motion. Those white lines extend across the screen from bright objects on the left. It seems bright objects on the right won't extend to the left though... What exactly is the Moire problem?

What am I really losing by not having DVI ?

From my understanding and experience, DVI is the highest quality signal possible. I connect my dreamcast through my HDTV's DVI and the clarity surpases my Xbox at 480p or 1080i via AR's $60 component cables. DVI is 100% clean, not to mention digital, whereas component is still analog. I have...
