You're right, Allan, I may have lead my comment astray by bringing in the NTSC standard (and I meant the 1941 NTSC not NTSC DVD) which really only specifies 525 scan lines in a 4:3 aspect ratio. I was trying to make a simple example with film grain "dots" and pixel "dots" (the ones stored in an...
You guys are thrashing Chris unnecessarily. The two processes (anamorphic film vs. anamorphic video) are different but analogous, if you choose to make the correlation. Obviously, the people who invented widescreen enhanced DVD saw the similarities too ........... BECAUSE THEY CALLED IT...
You're reading the review correctly, Justin. And there's a 99.999% chance that you will NOT be able to get any of your local HD channels over cable with the LG box. Most cable companies are using a different compression and modulation system for their digital HD cable than over-the-air...
You've both discovered that the deinterlacer in your television is better than the one in your DVD player. If you want to see what good progressive scan looks like, browse around some of the posts in the Audio/Video sources forum here and buy (if only just to return it later) one of the...
Here are the instructions from the ReplayTV website. You can also look up IR blaster code options here. IR Blaster Fine Tune To get to the Fine Tuning settings for an IR blaster Code: 1. Press Menu and select Setup 2. Select Change Network and Input settings 3. Select the input (line1...
Hi Bob, Try 0476, 0276 or 7400. When I used 4476 it would send each number out three times. I believe 7400 was the one that finally did the trick for me, but I'm not 100% sure. Also, set the minimum number of digits to send to 3. Hope this helps, adam
Welcome to HTF, Victor! 1. Yes, you can connect 5 speakers to a 6.1 or 7.1 receiver. There should be a setup option that allows you to select how many speakers you are using. 2. There are many ways to do this depending on your equipment: a) If your TV has two component inputs(Y Pb Pr / Y...
Check out the explanation of anamorphic DVD in the HTF Primer. There's more to it than the aspect ratio alone, with a widescreen TV, you'll get more horizontal lines of resolution playing an anamorphic DVD than a letterboxed DVD of the same film. It's difficult to put the difference into...
A powered (aka active) sub has it's own amplifier built in (you'll need to plug the amp into a power outlet seperately to power this amp). Instead of hooking the sub up with speaker wire, you use an RCA cable to send a line level signal to the sub's amp. This generally results in cleaner bass...
The 106 looks like a 5.1 system to me ... also, you might want to look for a speaker package with an active sub ... better yet buy the sub separately. People have said good things about Fluance speaker systems for entry level HT (check out www.fluance.com). There's no advantage to 5.1 over 6...
Thanks for the roundup, Dave. For the benefit of anybody else in Northern Nevada (and to rub it in for everyone else :b), I wanted to share the James Bond collection prices at my local WalMart (North Reno): Volume II : $47.77 Volume III: $69.88 Total (incl tax): $126.48 That's...
WUSA-TV (CBS in DC) is owned by Gannett - so no contract issues there (also, I'm pretty sure I've watched CBS on comcast HD at my friend's place in Reston, VA). I think Don is correct - since football ran into the HD broadcast, some stations had to upconvert the aditional, delayed standard...
Adjust the speaker distance to match the actual distance that each speaker is from your main listening position. The distance setting does NOT affect volume - it will slightly delay (by miliseconds) the signal for a speaker that is closer to the listener than the others so that the sounds all...
You only need one optical cable from the X-box to your receiver. One cable will take care of all 5.1 (or 6.1 or 7.1) channels of sound. You'll probably want to use the other optical input on your receiver to connect your DVD player. Also, what type of connection are you using for video on...
You could use a VCR, cable box or Satellite receiver with an S-video out. In each case that would act as the TV tuner and the projector would simply accept the video signal from it. Also, the X1 has a composite input (single yellow RCA connector) so you could use that if your VCR/cable box...
Which model Apex player do you have? Most of them will play cd's with JPEGs on them. Give it a try. On mine, it gives you a list of files and folders and you can navigate through or you can press Play for a slideshow.
4:4:4 isn't a pulldown format. It is a high-end (usually studio use) component video format where the Y, Cb and Cr components are sampled equally. DVD viedo uses 4:2:0 component (see dvd-makers.com for a better definition). There is no difference between 3:2 pulldown and 2:3 pulldown. When...
"Analyze This" (or That) ... alternate spelling ANALyze This. "The Sum of All Fears" "Blood Simple" (eww) Also, you and your coworkers clearly have "Cruel Intentions" ... plus, it would give you an excuse to play the scene where Sara M. G. says "You can stick it anywhere"!
Oops, I read the specs for the wrong model ... in that case I would buy both and see which one looks better then return the one you don't like. Another consideration is that you may soon want to use that DVI input for a High Def set top box, so you might switch your DVD back to component anyway.
I'd go with the Pioneer because it it is a universal player (will play SACD/DVD-Audio) and you can't take advantage of the DVI output on the Samsung unit. Since you don't have DVI, I would guess (judging by reviews of both players) that the Pioneer will look better than the Samsung. Just my .02
I'm not exactly sure where either Tivo or Replay get their info, but I do know that I can enter my ZIP code on my PVR and it will show me the over-the-air stations available in my area and download the data. I assume there is some database service that collects guide information and any...
Yes, Tivo or ReplayTV will work with antenna signals. Tivo doesn't get its program guide from your cable provider, the guide gets downloaded via telphone line or boradband internet connection from a Tivo/ReplayTV server. Good luck!
Depends on what you consider flawed. The "Old one" is a non-anamorphic transfer and, if I recall correctly, is misflagged as 4:3. So, IMO, it is worthy of the $5.88 price tag.
I've had success using Novus #2 fine scratch remover (www.novuspolish.com) followed up by their #1 cleaner. Check on ebay for a kit with a bottle of each.
Lew has a point, you probably have to get your TV to scan through the channels. In DC, WRC (NBC 4) broadcasts its digital signal on channel 48, once your TV scans that channel, it should link channel 48 to 4-1 so you can tune either one. At least, that's how my SIR-T151 HD tuner works. FYI...
