    Onix Ref 1s

I should mention that my musical comments on the Ref 1’s are assuming that a sub is used with the speakers. IMO, even the Ref 1.5’s (which go deeper than the Ref 1’s) do not have enough extension for anything other than pure vocal/choral music.

    Onix Ref 1s

I have Ref 1.5’s (tower version of the Ref 1) as well as Rocket 750’s. Very different speakers, but I wouldn’t necessarily the Ref’s are “better” speakers than the 750’s. Everyone will agree that the Ref’s are more detailed than the Rockets and IMO they give a better image. They lack the...

    Achieving Flat Bass Response

The av123 R-DES system found here (http://www.av123.com/products_produc...s&product=31.1) would also help you out. Compared to the BFD, it only has 4-bands for equalization, compared to 12. But it does have a much nicer interface and allows you to store up to 5 curves if you like to use...

How long will Denon keep my 2900?

Well, the first time it needed repair it wouldn't play DVD-A discs ~90% of the time. CD, SACD, and DVD-Video were all fine, but DVD-A just wouldn't play. The most recent problem started a few months ago where occasionally the disk (any type) wouldn't spin up/load after being put into the...

How long will Denon keep my 2900?

I had my DVD-2900 in the shop 1.5 years ago because it wouldn’t play DVD-A discs. I think it took ~2 weeks to get it back. I was fairly satisfied with the process. It broke again a little bit ago (won’t spin up any type of disc), and to speed up the turnaround I took it to a local repair...

    Audioholics EP500 Review Posted

I was surprised at the value rating of 5 out of 5. Maybe this new type of amp really adds something that others lack. At this price point, I can get dual 12” woofers with a 1000 watt amp from SVS, or for a bit cheaper a single 12” woofer, with a 500W amp and a real wood box. Onix will sell you a...

    THX needs some feedback

Similar to the requests for the aspect ratio on the menu and extras to be the same as the movie, I’d request that the audio signal for these portions also be the same. Many of today’s movies are enoced in DD or DTS but still have the menus in stereo. Fro those of us with receivers that take a...

    SVS PB1-ISD or Outlaw LFM-1?

It's also too bad Tom didn't include anything from SVS or Hsu in the subwoofer review. Seems a bit odd to leave them out when they have several very competitive models in the price range of those tested.

    Blockbuster's "Movie Pass" Goes National

I have a Discover credit card, and one of the things you can use your Cashback Bonus for is to get a Blockbuster movie card. It costs $20 to get a card good for 10 rentals. So for me, I would have to watch 14 movies a month to make the Movie Pass option worthwhile. While I've thought of...

What to do with an old sub?

I too put ketchup on steak when I was a kid. Then again, I also used to think that the $80 Pioneer speakers that I owned sounded pretty good. We all make mistakes when we're young... Maybe I'll just shove the old sub under my desk and use it for the computer. Jimi, I don't think it would be...

What to do with an old sub?

Over the past couple years I have purchased an SVS PC+ sub which was later replaced with an SVS PB2+. I sold the PC+ sub, but sitting in my basement I still have a JBL 110 Watt subwoofer that was the original sub that I owned. I measured the response of the JBL sub once and I believe its -3 dB...

    Upgrading from Monitor 7's

FWIW, I have a pair of Paradigm 9SEMk3 speakers. There were the predesessor to the Monitor line, so I would imagine that they have a similar sound (I've never heard the monitors, though, so I could be wrong). I too am interested in upgrading my speakers and was intrigued by the value of the...

    Recording fo Brahms Requiem?

I'd never heard this piece before singing it 1.5 years ago, and it's quickly moved towards the top of the list of my favorite pieces. The problem is that the recording I bought is fairly poor. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good recording of the piece(in German)? A brief search on...

HSU VTF3R or SVS PB2 ISD

Rick: Easy! Can't you just let the whole thing drop? I just caught up on this thread and the number and direction of the posts over the past two days has ben amazing. A day and a half ago we had a positive discussion towards getting some real measurements (that most people on this board would...

SVS vs HSU and which one for 4000 cu ft HT room?

Edwards quote: "Clearly, the internal cross sectional area of a flared and a non-flared port will be the same, and hence so will the velocity through the port." Just to point out, this isn't quite true. A flared port has a slightly lower pressure drop than a sharp-edged port, leading to a...

A little help setting up my BFD?

Mike D - Yep, I checked last night and I had a bunch of filters set for 250 - 1000 Hz. No wonder it wasn't affecting the sub response. I changed the filters and they certainyl have an effect. Response went from +/- 20 dB to +/- 15 dB, still a lot of work to do. I've still got what looks like...

A little help setting up my BFD?

Bill - that's the web page I used when setting up the BFD, but thanks for posting the link again. Frank - nope, I didn't verlook that. Mike - I think you may be on to something. I just looked at the number and didn't pay attention to andthing else when setting the frequency. I thoguht the...

Survey/Tips...How Far Apart the rear surround speakers in your 7.1 system?

I have floorstanding rear speakers against the wall behind the couch. They're about 11 feet from the listening position and are about 7 feet (a bit more than the width of a piano) apart from each other.

A little help setting up my BFD?

Thanks, Chuck - I'll try that as soon as my wife finished watching reruns of Stargate SG1. I did put in 12 filters and all the red lights are on on the BFD.

A little help setting up my BFD?

Hey guys, I’m looking for a little help in making sure that my BFD is set up right. I’ve read the manual, the excellent snapbug web site, and several threads no this forum. I like to think that I’m a reasonably tech-savvy guy, but it seems like I might be missing something obvious. After...

mini monitor vs. adp 370-- help me decide

I have a similar setup and size of room (Montor 9 and CC-370 up front). I use a pair of Titans as my surround speakers and really like them. Rather than mounting on the back wall, though, I have them on stands behind the couch. My brother has an axiom setup with bipoles (quadropoles in the...

    Help with Paradigm Speaker Decision

For music, I'd spend the estra money and buy the Studio package. I have a pair of Monitor 9's and they're great for HT, but for music I wish they were a bit better. - Kevin

My evaluation of Paradigm Atoms versus Titans.

I didn't do as extensive of an evaluation, but I reached pretty much the same comclusions as you did. Nice to hear someone else agree with me! I'd also second Wayne's comment - nice stands. Wish I would have thought of building my own stands for my Titans (used as rear speakers). Would have...

    Wall Plates for Speaker hookups?

I'm using the Leviton Quickport connectors throughout my home and I can't tell any difference when using them compared to a direct run of speaker wire. However, this probably touches closely on the dreaded "are expensive speaker wires worthwhile". In general, I think that as long as the...

    HT has demo dvd............... DAREDEVIL!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm... I watched it last night after reading this thread, bit wasn't terribly impressed with the bass. It was there, but nothing earth-shattering. Maybe the problem was listening to it in DD instead of DTS (who puts that option under Languages, anyway?!?). Although I was a hair disappointed...

Insane songs to play on your SVS

I just got the Blue Man Group DVD-A this week (Amazon, didn't think to check Ebay). Definitely a good subwoofer test disk. I don't know how low the extension of the bass on the disk is, but there is certainly *a lot* of it.
