    Acoustic foam, neat stuff

The stuff meets fire code.... This stuff I went ahead and did the deed, have a few hundered square feet of the foam ordered. If it does nothing for music, I'll put it in my bedroom and have a nice QUIET place to sleep at least :D

    Acoustic foam, neat stuff

I recently moved my gun safe to a temporary house(building a new one). The temp house is my great grandmothers place, and well...its kinda run down. So I have lots of latitude to piddle with the interior. In moving the rifles I purchased 4 pieces of 1" thick eggshell foam to layer them in the...

Oddball ghosting with Silence of the Lambs

I have a Samsung 507 DLP and a Pioneer DV-45 player. All my movies look wonderful, that is until I popped in Silence and what I saw almost made me sick. Sharp edged lines wiggle, the main FBI guy's glasses bounce around his face when its a closeup. I tried switching aspects, toggling between...

    Source Direct and Marantz receivers

Steve Lucas- I have a SR5200, and in the speaker setup menu there is a "SURR.CENTER" setting. Mine is defaulted to "NO". With my OSD, I hit menu/speaker setup/page 1 of 3, and its where ya set speakers to large or small or off. Hope that might help.

Warning! Backlit Remotes are battery hogs!!!

NiCads have a tendency to die really quickly. Hmmm, better way to phrase that. They last great, but once the capacity is used they don't slope off power slowly, they just DIE. Might be a bad thing if you have lotsa macros or custom buttons. I put Energizers in my Sony system commander, and...

    Can you wear out speakers?

Not like overdriving them, but simply wear em out? I pop in a CD when I walk thru the door after work, and usually have one playing till I go to bed. Ambient levels, sometimes enough to feel the tight mid/bass in yer limbs. I know surrounds and such age and need to be replaced due to time...

    DVI cable

Geforce card? 4200 of some ilk. Bought it so long ago...wait, lemme look in system properties NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200, is what Belarc spit out. I hooked it up for a quick while the other day(moving my comp is an ORDEAL) using a friends flat panel cable. I didn't play with resolution of much of...

    I got new speakers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Difficult, hardly. Time consuming it is tho. I found that sitting down and braiding for a hour or so at a time was the ticket. The only part that might prove hard is terminations. I'm a gearhead as well, and I have a garage full of tools, so modifying some banana plugs was a simple task for me...

    I got new speakers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.....or you can build your own. I did this for giggles mostly, but ended up liking the things. Kinda relaxing braiding them really. Here is the site cat5 DIY cables

    DVI cable

I just called all the local audio/video places around here and apparently a DVI cable is a rare beast, at least one long enough for my needs. I need a 5 meter or so. I got the new T2 "Extreme" dvd, and wanna play with the high-def outputs. My vid card is fully capable, and my sound card has...

    DLP or LCOS ???

I have the 507 DLP. Love it, simple as as that. Tight pic, and seems to do okay during the day. Picuture is fantastic, I watched T2 today(thru a comp with DVI, so's to get the full on "extreme DVD" pic), and I was impressed. LCOS is pretty nifty for sure. I dunno what to say really. Besides I...

Bi-amped, like it alot. Got a question as to the setup.

I figured out how to do it. I was just sittin there wondering where my multimeter was...still can't remember, I packed it up during the move and it's AWOL still. Anyways, here is what I did. I hooked one side up to just the woofer using the atereo amp. Hooked the other side up(just woofer)...

Bi-amped, like it alot. Got a question as to the setup.

I have the stereo amp powering the woofers and the receiver doing the mids/tweets. I've run the preouts from the receiver to the stereo amp(variable inputs), I've played with the levels some, but can't nail it down where I like it. Is there a SUREFIRE way to calibrate this kinda setup? I tried...

    Need some advice, quickly please...monoblocks

Eh, I got sniped. Well, with the 5 min overtime bidding thing, it wasn't quite a snipe, but the price ratchted up too much for my liking. Guess I'll see how the 125x1 watt Marantz monos sound and go from there. HT/stereos are entirely too expensive :D

    Need some advice, quickly please...monoblocks

Quickly for the reason that the auction is over in ~5 hours. I've found 2 Denon POA-6600 monoblocks for a decent price, and just wanted a bit of feedback on these amps. I'll be driving 4 monitors with em, I think the speakers are rated at...wait I know they are rated at 200 watts max. The Denons...

Vertigo, how many of you have had it?

Friend sent me a CBS Longbox version of Wish You Were Here. I waited till late at night to play the disc, popped it in and third or fouth song got me BAD. With my eyes closed I could hardly discern up from down. The music swirled all over the place...very strong, I had to turn the lights on...

    Subwoofer anchor

I have a Boston PV1000 sub, 1000 watts continious. For such a small little sub, it'll really reach down and move some air. Only problem with this thing is that its much to happy to dance around and literally jump around when the bass gets heavy(LOTR beginning). I tried the velcro patches, no...

    Recievers..narrowed down to 3..some questions

Tony Casler- Whoa, a font of information. Mind if I ask a question then? What kind of signal is a DVD-A sending via the analog 5.1 outs? If its the "enhanced audio" stuff is the analog signal 192 or 96? I'm mainly curious, as my DV45 won't do the 192 I don't think.

    Recievers..narrowed down to 3..some questions

From what I've gleaned the digital outs are nixed for copyright reasons. The analog outs WILL send all the info(SACD in all of its glory). Some DVD-A's will play in digital 192kHZ...some not all. SACD's will not, they all have the copyright protection built in. With the Pioneer DV45 you can...

    Silver to Black... revisited

Might try speaker grill cloth, cut to fit the bezel shape. Put a few velcro attachment points on the bezel, and stretch it a bit to fit around. That way only a few spots on the edge get glue on em. I have the same problem with a 50" Samsung DLP. I think I'm gonna leave the bit around the screen...

*sigh* I think I fried my Marantz 5200

First off, I'd like to say thanks ya'll for the help. I went and blew some money anyways on some cool stuff. My sound guy and I sat down and hammered out a solution to my problem. The speaker is covered under warranty, so its gonna be repaired. While I was there we figured out what to do with...

*sigh* I think I fried my Marantz 5200

I hate it when I do things like this. I'm almost sure now that I've done something stupid and cooked the rig. 3:44 am here, and I'm quite angry with myself. I also just got a 50" DLP set, and a friend dropped off a handful of great DVD's that my DV45 wants to spin....guess what tho? THE FREAKIN...

*sigh* I think I fried my Marantz 5200

So, I was enjoying a rather loud session of the CBS Mastersound Wish You Were Here(Pink Floyd), right around the +0db range and off goes the reciever. Eh, no worries right? I thought so, figured a protect circuit kicked in. Well, its now 5-6 hours later and I can't even listen to a song at what...
