send them to me? :D In all seriousness though, I'm gearing up to do a bunch of DIY projects this summer, and I've wondered the same thing. My family/friends either don't want or need speakers. My sis-in-law is in college, but giving a nice veneered pair of monitors to have some drunk...
oic! That's exactly why I was asking; I was thinking the weight of the mdf, big speaker, and amp to top it off, would easily shear itself from the legs once the bass got thumping. I'm looking to build an end-table sub myself. I have a HSU STF3 that performs well, but I've been promising...
Dan- Thanks for the thorough reply. That really does explain it better, and I'm happy to see that I would be able to do a 3-way design without running out and having to buy a new amp. As much as I love music (and playing it), and as good as I am with techie stuff, I've never delved...
Dan- is that WMTMWWW an extremis build? Is it a kit already, or just one of the fun projects you have started on the side? oh, one more question if yer bored, since you pointed out how the 261 has an impedance that would be stable for an 8 ohm receiver, would adding the mid (wr125s?)...
Can I safely assume that any/all of these Extremis designs (and others such as the North Creek) will always come in around 4 ohms and need a bunch of power? I have a Rotel 1055 for now, but it is not stable under 8ohms and would require a seperate amp for anything less.
Brian, sweeeeet setup. How the hell do you keep all the pretty stuff on the shelves around the TV with that much bass??! Also, hope I'm not being an idiot here, but how did you get the center config? I don't see it on their site, unless I'm missing it. Or did you simply turn a ryhthm...
Thanks Allan. I should have said "rear", I was looking at the cutaway plan view at the time from that pdf file. (i had rotated the file to read the text). And sorry for all the detailed questions, I didn't realize that you all were still much in the design phase. ...well, I will...
Couple more questions of the LCR: The drawings seem to show it ported on one side, but the 2 mids share the same volume, more or less. Is that right? Is porting optional? Reason being, as I posted earlier, I don't have a huge amount of clearance between the speaker and wall behind. And...
Al, By the way, how do the LCR's sound, and how do they compare with the 261's you built? The LCR's are pretty sweet looking. And after re-reading your post at htguide, I'm looking forward to seeing the other forthcoming kits. :D __________________________________________ Brian...
Al, Somehow I missed your rawcoustics link below the first time. That is what I was missing when looking for kits! and Tim, That makes more sense now about Adire and their development.
Thanks for the replies, I've had a fun time so far drooling over the kits. One quick question though: It looks like Adire hasn't released any kits of its own yet using the Extremis. Are there other designers (private or otherwise) that are releasing specs and plans so that I can build an...
Hiya. I've inherited a bunch of mdf from one of our construction sites (I'm a contractor), and have a wild hair to try a DIY kit. I currently have the Axiom M22's on stands with the 150 center and some in ceiling rears and a Hsu STF-2 sub. I enjoy the M22's, but they do seem lacking as...
Rutgar- I definitely realize how normally you wouldn't want mains on the wall. I currently have my Axioms on stands for that reason. But my room would work perfectly (people walk right past the speaker area) with the speakers up out of the way, especially around a plasma. The way I figure...
I currently have the Axiom M22's and VP150 center, with some in ceiling rears from a generic manufacturer. Powered by my Rotel 1055 and with an HSU sub. I am thinking of going to a projector setup in my living room, and was going to save up for the B&W Nautilus 804's. BUT, now I've been...
Hi. I'm very interested in the Hitachi PJTX100, but I've read in a few places that Hitachi is keeping the US price inflated by ~ $1000, and it can be bought overseas for that much less. Is this true? Has anyone done this? Is there a problem with electrical compatability when...
Thanks to both of you for that link and the info. I did start reading all about that new line. Sounds very promising. It definitely will cause me to pause and consider whether I should haggle down the existing 804's on the floor at my local B&W retailer, or treat myself to the newer...
I need to connect my Axiom M22's, and Axiom VP150 to my Rotel 1055. I am currently moving my a/v equipment to a nearby closet and will need wire to span the distance. So, I will need (3) 35' lengths that will travel along the front wall, then down through some 2" conduit (about 12') under...
Chu- My install is an underfloor, not in-wall, so I can use the standard wire. I have the conduit drop from the floor of this new speaker closet, it is strapped to the joists below, then pops back up behind the tv location, only about 12" into it. If I leave this metal conduit, fire is...

Thanks for all the replies. I went to a couple custom interconnect sites, and they seemed to have a max length of 30-45 feet (but I'm sure you could custom order longer). That makes me think that even if I went with a DVI run or composite, it will still be available in good quality cable...
It's an online site that I'll have to look up again. I have a feeling that it might be a 'factory repaired' item, so if that's the case I'll make sure to get a good warranty in writing first.
Neil, I guess I should clarify that I'm not concerned about the speaker cable length, but more the length of whatever Video cable I end up using to send the signal to the TV. And now that I think about it, I guess it might be an s-video, which is what my Rotel provides for a monitor out...
I'm remodeling my house, and hope to locate my AV toys in a dedicated closet about a 15-25' total length away. The only toys out in my living room will be the front and center speakers, and tv. Is this going to be a problem for any interconnects or speaker wire in particular? Obviously the...
I currently have the basic Sony 300 cd changer. I have probably another 4 or 500 cd's plus dvd's I'd like to file for convenience. I realize these multi-units don't provide audio/videophile performance, but I don't have that system or room either. I found a place online to get this new Sony...
