I don't have any personal experience, but several people have been disappointed with the sound coming from these "new" digital recievers. This was HK's first try at a completely digital reciever, and several people (at least over at AVS) didn't think it had the Harman Kardon sound characteristic...
Well it would depend upon whether you wanted direct firing surrounds or not. Do a search here and you may find some of the debate. It comes down to personal preference I think. I have the Reference equivalent to the SS-1's that I use for surrounds, because it disperses the soundfield better...
So, for 400, which is the better sub, the STF-2 or the Rava.
This is for Home theater only. Music is listened to on other system.
I'm leaning toward the Adire because of the finish, but it will be tucked away in a corner, so it doesn't matter.
Thoughts?
My local Best Buy is advertising the Tommy and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Deluxe edition releases for $20 this week. Just a quick heads up. I have the Elton already, but am considering picking up The Who. :emoji_thumbsup:
The ones that get the most play at my house are: SACD: Steely Dan-Gaucho Both Nickel Creek discs Beck-Sea Change Elton John-Goodbye Yellow Brick Road DVD-A: Flaming Lips-Yoshimi Fleetwood Mac-Rumours and Say You Will Steely Dan-Everything Must Go Blue Man Group-Audio
I have to say I really like the surround mix on this. Also, although my family has most of the Elton albums, I have never payed any attention to them, because I usually just listen to the greatest hits albums that we own. I am enjoying all the new songs I have never heard before. My dad said...
I managed to find it at another BB about half an hour from here. I got the last two copies of the version with DVD. From what I've heard, the mix sounds great. Be careful with those hubs though, these are Crest kids!!!
That's great. My local BB didn't have this disc in the SACD or regular cd section. I was so upset! I went in for two things yesterday, and they didn't have either of them. They also didn't have the Return of the King soundtrack.
The use of surrounds in this release is phenominal! What a great mix Elliot has come up with this time. Also, I bought this having never heard a Flaming Lips song based on the reviews read here. Thanks. When I first heard the disc, I really didn't appreciate the music at first, but every time I...
Lee, have you seen the magazine anywhere in Alpharetta? I've checked Media Play on North Point, and also the Barnes and Noble twice. Any suggestions as I really want to pick this up before Thanksgiving to use as a demo. Thanks
I'm a happy 45TX owner here. In fact, I bought it just before the new models came out for a sweet price (at the time). If you can find a 45tx, I would take it over the 53 for a few reasons. The 45 has the RS-232 and USB ports which I don't think the others have. The 45 has a much nicer...
Turns out these are from Crest as well. One guy over at the Asylum is already reporting cracking.  Maybe all we will ever get from Crest is lip service. I've heard it sounds great, but this is ridiculous.
Thanks for the mini-review Larry. I want to pick this up, but that price is a little steep for me. Does anyone know the retail on this, and any online etailers that are carrying it?
I too picked this up on Tuesday. I noted that in the Postcard track, the mix is somewhat agressive (moreso than the other songs) and I really like it. Better yet, I picked it up for 12.99 at my local Media Play (same price as the single cd) I think it was mispriced, but the add in Sunday's...
Tommy, thanks for the tip. I have been interested in checking this disc out because of all the positive feedback over at Audioasylum. I know it's a two channel recording. Is it a hybrid? And is the price reasonable? Hmm... guess I can answer those questions for myself. :emoji_thumbsup:
