    Onkyo Owners Wanted...

On mine, you have to setup the reciever to recognize the digital input for the player. Something like "DVD => Optical 1" Substitues "Optical" for "Coaxial" if that is what you use. Next you have to make sure you DVD player is setup to output the DD/DTS signal. Last you when start the movie...

The most important speaker in a HT is....

IMHO, the sub. Even without any other speakers other than what is in the TV, I can still hear all the dialog and most of the sounds. Without a sub, I cant feel it. The exception being that if had truly awesome mains and surrounds I could probably be happy without a sub. Older movies...

    Onkyo HT-S760

I think that was the place I saw the link to parts express and teh bucking magnet. I started with a google search of "shielding a speaker".

    Onkyo HT-S760

Dave, I'm thinking (and I'm not by any means an expert) that if the tube has such a strong magnetic field that a sheet of metal will cause a distortion, then no amount of shielding the speaker will help. What you can learn through these discussions... I was doing research for this thread and...

    Onkyo HT-S760

If you have a tube monitor on your pc, it probably has a degauss function. I dont know if tv's have this feature, I thought they all had gone to doing this on every power off/on. Here's a link that talks about degaussing a TV. Degaussing link

    Onkyo HT-S760

As I recollect it is a way to eliminate or counter a magnetic field. Or it's probably easier to think of it as "demagnetizing".

    Onkyo HT-S760

Distortion with just a metal plate makes think there is a relatively powerfull magnetic field eminating from the tv itself. That may be the norm however, and I've never tried holding a sheet of metal to a tv before. Have you tried discharging the screen? They used to sell degaussing tools...

    My Arcam AVR200 receiver review

I'll leave criticism of your writing style to the experts. My 2 cents worth is to: 1. Make the text larger, much larger. 2. Lose the rotating colors on the background and pick one easily read combination of colors. 3. Use more pictures. 4. Include a table or listing of the...

Have you reached the "point of diminishing returns" with your speakers?

Diminishing returns is relative isnt it? I hit that point when I bought my HTIB, it sounded 50% as good with the HTIB speakers as it does now with the speakers I upgraded to. HTIB=$450 Onkyo HT-S760 New sub=$1200 SVS PB2+ New Speakers=$1000 Polk RTi150's, Rti38's, CSi40 So for an...

Has anyone else had the driver in their SVS 20-39 fall out!

I once had UPS destroy a box so badly, it was simply no longer a box, it was a bag. This was a heavy duty cardboard box in good shape that apeared to have benn rolled from Dallas to Memphis. It literally was like a thick paper bag, there was no part part of the bax that had any integrity left...

    ohms not showing

Doesnt show as in they show a open or a short? I cant imagine that either way it would be good, but a dead short would probably trip the amp.

    Onkyo HT-S760

The falsehhood that the 760 speakers are not shielded is one that wont die. They are shielded. For what they are, they are good speakers, and what they are is a $200 speaker set with a sub included. If you want to talk about the real negatives of the speakers it is that they inefficient(86db...

    Looking for a 2 channel amp @ 300W RMS

I just stumbled across this at Club Polk. "I work at CC and a good friend of mine has the 150s. I didn't read through this whole post to find if anyone knew this but the 150s ARE 4 ohm speakers. We hooked a mulitmeter up to the binding posts with the metal connectors still intact and it read...

    Looking for a 2 channel amp @ 300W RMS

True enough, I've never heard the 150's with any thing over maybe 80 watts. Still, I'd have to hear it to believe they would do better at HT than a PB2. I've never heard my PB2+ be boomy, even at nearly 130db. It sure does rattle the house and moves the floor. To me that's the difference I...

    Looking for a 2 channel amp @ 300W RMS

I would wait until that PB2-ISD shows up before buying any amps. I'd then set the 150's for small and just let the PB2 handle the bass. The 150's wont come anyhwere near the bass the PB2-ISD can go, trust me on this. I have the PB2+ and it can either shake the house, or if you turn it down...

    Looking for a 2 channel amp @ 300W RMS

What made me wonder about the x-over is he said it was in "home theater mode", and typically you use a sub for HT. The 150's have good bass, but not wall shaking bass like a good sub can do. I wonder if the shutdown is because of the LFE track pushing the 150's down below what they can...

    Looking for a 2 channel amp @ 300W RMS

Tuan, are you using them as "large"? How long does it take to shut down the amp? I've run mine at reference or very near for an entire movie, but that was with the sub x'd over at 80hz. You have what should be a large upgrade in reciever over what I have. I think I'd be talking with...

    Looking for a 2 channel amp @ 300W RMS

It does seem odd to me. I have the Ht-510 that comes in the Onkyo 760 HTIB and it drives my RTi-150's to 90db pretty easily. Even with only 16 guage wire. OTOH, I havent run them for a long time that way. Could heat be a problem? Not enough breathing room for the amp? I've had that on...

    Which polks?

The drivers are the same size as the 38's, not sure if they are the same drivers. I think you'll like the 40, and you'll be surprised by how much more efficient it is compared to the 38's. I just looked online, and CC is showing that my local stores are out of them. I wonder if they have...

    Which polks?

Tommy, I went and traded my CSi30 for a CSi40. Figuring it will drop in the 30 day return period and I'll just PM. It if doesnt, well I've had month to enjoy it and I'll write off the extra $150 to that. IMHO, the 40 matches the RTi150's better than the 30 did. I think it would overpower the...

    Help with Onkyo center speaker

I put my Onkyo center on top of my RPTV. The only problem I had was that the RPTV cant hold the weight. I ended building a stand and setting the center in front of the TV. My Onkyo speaker set came with the HT-S760 HT system. It looks to be the same speakers as the 510. In the manual it...

    Polk, Axiom, ??????

CC has great deals on the Polks, if you can find them. Many people here have got the RTi150's for ~$250 (myself included, and 1 guy got them for $209) and I saw the FXi30's for $70 each (floor model) at one store. The CC website has the Csi40 for $299 and the store will pricematch that. I...

A newbie is almost ready to buy...

The center is HUGE in HT! Most of the sounds come from the center and the dialog is almost always coming from that speaker. You need a good one so that voices dont sound muffled or get dimished by effects and music. I would have said that the CSi40 would have been a good match, the CSi30...

    Inexpensive Speaker Choice?

The Onkyo is a good set. I have it, or one very similar set that came with my HT-S760. Works fine for movies, so-so with music. The set as whole is not very efficient, fronts/center at 86db and surrounds at 82db. Should be jsut fine a room your size. For the money they are very hard to beat...

Please help me choose a home thearer in a box set! Thanks

Get the Onkyo HT-S760, and get a dvd player seperate. The 760 is a great buy. the speakers are good enough. The reciever is good enough so that if you get better speakers later on, it will fit in just fine. Check the reviews on the 760 and see that it is very well liked.

You should see if you can get the Rti38's for that price. I did at Circuit City. New Rti38's 2 for $88 ea Demo Rti38's, 2 for $75 ea and 1 for $79 at a different store. I've been told the CSi40 is too much for the 28's, but I havent heard that combo myself. I have the CSi30 and it works...

Polk Audio speakers half off at Circuit City

The CC's here are about sold out of the Rti's. One CC guy told me they sold the RTi150'a for $250 ea, and the last Rti100's there were $203 ea. I bought 2 Rti38s new for $88ea, 2 floor models for $75 ea, and one floor model (diff store) for $79. That's a great deal for those, and they sound...

    Thanks, SVS!

All I can say is that Ron, Tom and Erik went to great lengths to make me happy. Extremely happy at that. I have an email folder with over 20 emails from them. Answers to my questions that I sent at all hours, and that they promptly answered back at all hours. More patient people I have never...

Suggest a Polk Back Surround Speaker

I would try something like LOTR FOTR Balins Tomb where the skeleton and the bucket fall down the well. There is a part of that where the sound is directly behind you. If it sounds fine without a back channel, I'd leave it. Angling the rear surrounds towards the wall a little might help. I...

    Wall mounting Polk RTi38's

I picked up 3 more Rti38's today to go with the 2 I bought yesterday. Yesterday I got the last 2 new in the box RTi38's in town. Today I got 3 floor models. Two for $75 each from one store, and the third from a different store for $79. I'm good at coming up with crazy ideas. I had pictured...
