Stanley Kubrick: filmmaking genius, or overrated control freak?

"Lighten up!" If you're so lightened up yourself, don't call me "cult follower". Talk about hypocrisy. What is up with top-rate movie bashing ? It seems to be all the rage to bash Citizen Kane and 2001 these days. Maybe it's just simple ignorance.

Stanley Kubrick: filmmaking genius, or overrated control freak?

"Did you forget the smiley?" It was not a joke. "At any rate, spoken like a true cult follower!" What authority have I evoked, apart from my own opinion ? Talk about childishly missing the point.

Stanley Kubrick: filmmaking genius, or overrated control freak?

"I think 2001 and Contact are perfect companion movies" They are companions in the sense that you can put them on the same shelf, yes. However, if you mean that they are anywhere near equally as good, I'm afraid you're under the influence of psychedelics (ironically). There is just no other...

Stanley Kubrick: filmmaking genius, or overrated control freak?

"I am religious and have very set values, morals, beliefs." Your priest should whack you on the hand for watching movies ! Didn't you know most movies are Satanic, at least according to Christian Spotlight on the Movies ?! Now go back to watching "The Gospel According to Matthew" for the...

Why do film scholars hate 80s movies...and is there something wrong with me...

"And I side with Steve myself. I decide FOR myself." Once again, you won't get any disagreement from me. No one else can really decide anything for you. And I think that's a very elitist statement. If you're an elitist, obviously you're not intending on anyone else to think for you, since...

Why do film scholars hate 80s movies...and is there something wrong with me...

"But Francois how do we really know the films you elitists champion as works of art, are in fact, works of art? What if in reality 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' is THE true work of art, while an elitist/film snob favorite like 'A Room With a View' is actually a worthless pile of doggypoo (but lets...

Why do film scholars hate 80s movies...and is there something wrong with me...

Since then is "elitism" a bad thing ? I am proud to be an elitist in a world that seeks the mediocre. Being an elitist does not mean that you only appreciate "art films", it means that you are not afraid to speak up about what is good and what is not (instead of the tastes of the masses)...
