    Wireless cable TV trasmitters?

Here's the situation: My wife loves to watch TV in the kitchen while she cooks, cleans, etc. We've had a small TV in there for a while with rabbit ears, but now she'd like to see channels like MTV, FOOD, HGTV, ESPN (okay, that last one is mine). It is very difficult to run cable to the...

    All Star Game in HD?

That's what I figured. To be honest, that is really unacceptable given the current state of HD. FOX has no excuse for not getting up to speed.

Satellite vs. Cable (particularly about HD)

I have Time Warner Cable in Kansas City and have been pretty pleased with the HD offerings. Currently I'm receiving the local channels (CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, PBS), TNT and Discovery HD Theatre. For an additional fee, I could get INHD1, INHD2, HDNet, HDNetMovies. So far, I've chosen not to...

    All Star Game in HD?

Does anybody know if FOX is broadcasting in HD yet? It would be great to see tonight's All Star Game in HD. Thanks, Ron

    Speaker Buzz

I have determined that the A/V equipment is on its own breaker, separate from the lights. And the buzz only happens when it's on dolby digital. For example, when I hit "Play Movie" on a DVD, it will be quiet, then I'll hear the buzz for the THX logo, then quiet, then the buzz will start again...

Really??? I do have cable in the room, and an HDTV cable box. I'll have to check that out tonight.

    Speaker Buzz...

I've done some checking and my equipment is on a breaker by itself (I guess my electrician was smarter than I thought), separate from the lights. I guess my next troubleshooting step would be to put a regular on/off switch on the lights to see if the buzz goes away. David Michael - What...

    Speaker Buzz...

Fortunately, I have a brother who knows a thing or two about electrician work. I'll have him over to help check the circuitry. Of course, I'm kicking myself. I had this room built myself, and did not bother to ask the electrician to put the equipment outlet on its own circuit. Live and learn...

    Advice on Light dimmers, please.

Personally, I'm using the Lutron Spacers. I have two sets of lights - two wall sconces near the front of the room, and then two wall sconces and a ceiling can near the rear of the room. One Lutron works the front lights, and the other the rear lights. With the Spacers, I can specify scenes...

Andrew... Thanks for taking the time to read and respond to my question, however "get rid of the dimmmers" isn't the kind of advice I was looking for. :) Cameron_Y... I do not have a power conditioner installed. I'll do some research to see about these units to see if maybe that will...

    Speaker Buzz...

I've had my theater done for about 4 months. I've been having trouble with speaker buzz. I thought that I would get used to it, but instead, it's bothering me more and more. The buzz is only in my surrounds and center, not in the right and left front speakers. It also seems to happen only...

    Install a Curtain

I have a similar situation in my theater. I'm in the process of hanging a curtain across the back of the theater that will separate it from the rest of our basement (and block incoming light from our doors). I bought a curtain track and hangers like what they use in hospitals from Medical...

    DirecTV Mirrored Receiver Questions

BTW - I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on DirecTV vs. Cable. Especially from those who have DirecTV. Personally, I think I'm still in favor of cable, but would like to hear the different arguments. I'll be posting my detailed thoughts on the matter on my blog at...

    DirecTV Mirrored Receiver Questions

Thanks for the advice. I have now activated all three receivers. BTW - I was pretty excited about the self-service aspect of Directv.com (activate new receivers on line), however, I was not able to complete the activation process on any of the receivers. On all three, I had to call and deal with...

    DirecTV Mirrored Receiver Questions

Here's the story: I purchased a DirecTV 3-receiver system for my parents for Christmas. DirecTV requires the system be activated within 30 days of my purchase, or I must pay $150 per receiver. My folks are building a new house, and won't be ready for the system until late January, and I don't...

Front Projector Connections, and pre-wiring them.

In my town, I think code requires the hole be at least 1/3 of the way from the edge of the joist. If it's closer than that, then it requires a double-joist.

Front Projector Connections, and pre-wiring them.

I agree with Robert. I also ran conduit to my projector. My problem is that I had to run the conduit perpendicular to my joists, meaning I had to drill through every joist. (no fun at all!!) I may have bitten myself my using smaller conduit (1 inch, I think). If I ever run DVI, I'll be...

Front Projector Connections, and pre-wiring them.

I ran a cable to the projector for an IR blaster, but never hooked it up. I've found it's just as easy to just point the remote at the projector. I purchased a 30 foot Wire World cable. It's S-Video and component all in one cable. It made it easy to pre-wire.

    Pics of our new HT

I'm not home with a tape measure, so I'm just guessing here. The room is about 12 1/2 feet wide. From the screen to the single seats is probably around 9 feet. To the back row is about 13 or 14 feet. Again, just guesses. Those front two seats are a bit too close for my tastes. But my kids...

I've added a few new pics to my Ofoto Album. Just click the link for my homepage (right above this message), then click the "View Photos" button (no need to sign in, I don't think). The new ones are all the way at the bottom. Not much new other than stocking the DVD shelf, and adding a...

Thanks to all on the compliments. It's been a few days since I've been able to get on the board, so I'll try to answer some of the questions. First, the projector is a PLUS Piano Avanti. The 4:3 picture is probably from a commercial on one of the HD channels on our cable system. I do have...

    Pics of our new HT

Regarding the Coke machine - I bought it at my wife's High School Charity Auction. I bid $600 and won it. It stores about 12 cases of cans and keeps them VERY cold. It's not good for a home theater though since the lights are bright (I twist the tubes to turn them off during movie watching), and...

    NAD T752 Receiver

I just purchased and installed a new NAD T752 Receiver. I haven't had much of a chance to tweak it yet, but out of the box it was very impressive. Our first experience with it was the new Lion King DVD. The sound was great. Does anybody else have one of these? What is your impression of...

    Divided Room?

Domonic, I saw your PDF. Your set up is almost identical to mine - even the room sizes. Is there anything where that yellow line is? If not, maybe the header I mentioned would work there. You could mount speakers on it, and hang a curtain on the bottom of it to block off the room. (and you...

    Divided Room?

I'm running 5.1. I built in a header at the back of the theater area (about a foot down from the ceiling). I considered using the header to mount speakers for 6.1 or 7.1, but ultimately decided on 5.1. The other nice thing about the header is that it creates a nice place to mount my curtain track.
