Fox still controls the MGM video library, and has been pretty active with it. I wish they would have licensed stuff like ROLLING THUNDER and FUTUREWORLD to you so we could have gotten special editions instead of barbones releases, which is what we are getting this year.
Cliff, any chance of licensing some of the American International Pictures cult titles from Fox/MGM before they get released by them as barebones MOD discs?
Come on, they did a great job with the Stooges! And blu-ray edition? With Sony now reverting to releasing their libary titles on made on demand online discs, we're lucky we got what we got in regards to the Stooges.
It is absolutely a win-win situation! I don't have a blu player either, but I have no problem with Synapse releasing it like this, and I just pre-ordered it at Amazon, where it's like $21.99, not bad at all. Just think, if the video rights still belonged to MGM, we'd be getting nothing. I'm...
Or even the MGM of six or seven years ago, when they actually released library titles on DVD in mostly excellent transfers with extra features to boot. Or the Fox-controlled MGM of about three years ago, when they were doing the same. Now, MGM/Fox is no longer interested in releasing untapped...
You're right it's not such a bad thing, my beef is though that they don't release any previously unreleased titles anymore, or very little. If we were given more unreleased classics during a "75th Anniversary" and going forward, I think most of us would be more happy.
Speaking of CLEOPATRA JONES AND THE CASINO OF GOLD, I just recieved my copy, and it's defective, pixelating all over the place. This is the first time I had trouble with an WB Archive Collection title: are they good about exchanging defective copies? I got my slip and letter ready to go, and I'm...
Yes, they sat on these titles way too long, and it's there loss! From what I understand, their video rights expired and Synapse was able to come in and rescue them without wasting any time. It's too bad most of the American International Pictures titles will stay buried with them (and I have no...
From the above list (which is awesome), at least CANNIBALS GIRLS (coming from Shout) and NOTHING BUT THE NIGHT and THE DEVIL WITHIN HER (both coming from Scorpion) have been let free from the maximum secirity prison.
I just came upon this at DVD Drive-In. Looks to be a great release from Synpase Films. I'm so thankful this film and HANDS OF THE RIPPER and TWINS OF EVIL are out of the useless hands of MGM-Fox. www.dvddrive-in.com
I have no use for streamlining. I'm not opposed to it as an option for some people, but I have absolutely no use for it. I am a DVD collector and have been for ten years. I love building a collection and I look forward to adding more. I am actually quite annoyed to hear that MGM is dumping...
When I started this post almost two years ago, I never thought it would come to this point, a point where we can now rejoice!
Wade, don't feel bad at all. If it's any consolation, I too spent money getting DVR-Rs and in some cases, Region 2 discs on these titles, but I'll GLADLY pay Synapse for...
I hate the fact that MGM is still hanging on to these and teasing us with listings like this on their site:
http://www.mgm.com/view/Movie/2092/Vampire-Circus/
Then they suggest I might also like MONSTER DOG and TERRORVISION, but hell, I can't buy those titles either!!!
MGM HD has also shown the likes of TWINS OF EVIL, VAMPIRE CIRCUS, DR. GOLDFOOT AND THE GIRL BOMBS, GRAVE OF THE VAMPIRE, THE VIDEO DEAD and other Midnite Movies type titles. I really hope though they license some of these titles rather than do the MOD route on them.
...Replicated DVD-Rs for 20 bucks a pop, only available through Amazon, with no covers to boot, compared with the good old days of pressed DVDs for around 10 bucks a pop, a lot of times getting a double feature for that low price. I don't mind that they do this for certain titles, but I...
You would think that with the enormous success of the new "Twilight" movie and the overall vampire craze, MGM or whoever inherits their library would be quick on getting out VAMPIRE CIRCUS and TWINS OF EVIL in the United States. Also, love your list and would like to ad a region 1 disk of BLOOD...
Obviously they believe the Midnite Movies type titles to be worthless since they haven't done anything with them for two years, and it's Fox making the decisions anyhow. If they license shows like MR. ED and MR. BELVEDERE, I'm sure they wouldn't blink an eye to license QUEEN OF BLOOD or BLOOD BATH.
Yeah Code Red would do wonders with some of the AIP catalog. They already got actor Alex Rebar to be on a featurette for their deluxe edition of BEYOND THE DOOR, and since he's the star of THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN, I'd love to see them give that title the ultimate treatment.
I noticed too that MGM HD, which I don't have, is showing a few of the old American International released Italian "sword & sandal" epics. I would love to see a box set of those if MGM ever gets back on its feet. Something's gotta give for this vast library to once again be available to...
