Interested in purchasing the best LOW END A/V 5.1 receiver I can find. Unit will be matched to cheap DVD & TV in my daughters room. Was thinking of going with an Okyno HTS -650 package for $370 at CC (LFE works). But now considering just a low end amp and filling the system out with my old...
Thanks so much !! Those are a big help and confirm that I got the right data when I was digging data out of the Shiva white paper. But the program call for a bunch of other data points which I can't find or don't know the meaning of. Maybe they are not important to running the program...
Andrew - Thanks for starting this thread and following up with the stats. I want to second the comment that you have done an outstanding job in the presentation of this project. ;) P.S. I ordered mine today :D
After building a DYI bookshelf speaker kit I am now hooked. Can someone give me advice on a good DYI speaker design book? Also, wondering if a program like BassBox Lite (from Parts Express) would be a good subwoofer program to start with. Thanks :b
Thanks good idea !! I wanted to use 12 gage wire which makes the combined wires too thick to get into the back of the plug. Guess I will use your method and drop down to 14 gage if I cant find what I am looking for. Thanks for the reply
I want to make a set of Bi-wire speaker cables. I am looking for a gold plated male banana plug with two female plug-ins (on the back), or a Y adaptor similar to those commonly found with RCA jacks (but for banana plugs). Does anyone know where I might purchase these?

Jeff - Thanks - I was just in the process of posting a replay saying I had sent an e-mail to P.E. when your post popped up. I immediately called PE and......to make a long story short - my new amp is on the way (no need to return the old one). Thanks for the quick post !!!
My DLS came today. Love the little guy. For such a small investment, it really does a fine HT job. I also found it to be much more musical than I expected. Auto-on is a pain.... It works, but "pops" on and off when acquiring the base signal. My feeling is that the auto-off setting is very...
Regarding use of the S&V setup disk.... How do you tell that what freq. you are at? I have not been able to find anything other than the sweep - which seems to be a steady descending tone. Are you using a separate tone disk?
Went shopping today for an SPL (Radio Shack) only the digital SPL is available so I passed. Is it an acceptable alternative? I'm sure I can go back and pick it up tomorrow. Also, I have the S&V set-up disk but am wondering if the AVIA is better?
By my count there are six of these "lil guys" being deliverd this week to Shane, Matt, Colin, Jim, David, & Jason. Anyone care to offer any special set-up tips for the group ?
Wondering what the best HT set-up disk might be. I have the Sound & Vision “Home Theater Tune-up” DVD which was a help. Now I’m interested in diving a little deeper into the set-up (calibrate the subwoofer etc.) and wondering if The “AVIA Guide to Home Theater" and or a Audio CD I noticed on...
What did SVS recommend? I emailed them this morning and Eric responded that a PB1 would work fine (unless I really wanted to go “hot” on the bass) in my 17 x 14 x 8 (one door opening) carpeted room.
Steve - Thanks for the reply. I Went ahead with the order. I'll keep checking the SVS site. Hopefully we will see some posts soon regarding the PB1 & PB2 (wife says it has to be a box). ;)
Slowly building a system. Taking my time to listen and learn about each specific speaker purchase before I buy. So far I have Def Tech SM450's (mains), a C/L/R 2000 (center)and am using a 15-year-old set of Bose in back (last to be replaced). Just started researching subs so I want to take a few...
Bill / Jeremy Thanks for the help, think we have the cable box sound dilemma solved. Iver – My menu set-up is a bit different. Audio menu is set per the following PSM Down Conversion = Off Dolby Digital = Bitstream ON DTS Digital Surround = Bitstream ON D Range Compression = Off...
Great - looks like I'M getting closer. Can you tell me what SPDIF means? I assume that it is an audio hook-up? I dont see anything on the back of the receiver that would inidcate where to connect the SPDIF output cable to. You folks have been a great help - Thanks for sticking with me on...
Jeremy and Bill – thanks for the help. Took a picture of the back of the box but don't seem to be able to past it to the board. The back of the cable box has the following in and output labels. S-Vid High speed data Out of band data Aux audio in (right and left) SPDIF (????) Aux...
