DaveGTP: I like your taste. *sigh* I need to finish 'Banner' and start 'Banner II' p.s. I'm up at this hour because I'm writing a take home examination on Ghost in the Shell for Comp. Lit. 342

JohnAD: Bounce Ko-gals is something I've been meaning to see, but I also want to see Hideaki Anno's Love and Pop and Shiki-Jitsu but I don't hold out much hope for either. DaveGTP: Loved El Hazard the OVA, but quite disliked the TV series, I couldn't even get through it.

earl_roberts: My friend Hidenobu's nickname is Hide (pronounced HEE-DAY) and I'm sure he wouldn't feel very happy to know that it sounds girly ;) I would add 'Pero' to the list, if Takkun is on there, 'Pero²' should be as well.. I agree with you, more Gainax is needed, but surprisingly...

JohnAD: Well I can understand, it's still amazing he did 'Fight Club' at Fox. He said that the only way there would be a director's cut of Alien 3 was if the negative was burned and he was allowed to do it all over again from scratch. I think that would be a fascinating idea. I wish I was a...

Dome Vongvises: Yes, doing things to eyes are one of my two cinematic injury panic buttons (the other being compound fractures) The best thing to do with this movie is to show it to an average moviegoing friend and tell them it's a romantic comedy. JohnAD: I just received the Quadrilogy...

JohnAD: I actually own the two disc Korean DVD of Battle Royale. I highly recommend it. I've also seen Audition and I caught both Visitor Q and Ichi the Killer at a horror film festival about eight months ago. I really wanna see Dead or Alive and Fudoh On another topic, anybody else seen...

    Advanced Anime Discussion Part VI

Tony, my interest in anime waxes and wanes. Right now I'm not very interested in new things (haven't checked out fansubs for about seven months) and aside from collecting Gainax productions and the occasional impulse buy, I don't really have anything I'm looking forward to, Except Abenobashi...

Jesse Brickzin: Aside from a few musical cues and whatnot, the only content on Death and Rebirth that isn't in End of Evangelion is the summary of the TV show using letterbox matted clips. It does come with an all-new framing device, which is a string quartet rehearsal of the Children and I...

    Where does everyone purchase DVD's

I always order from C&L www.cnl.com. It's cheap, has the prices in Canadian dollars, lots of animé, and if I order sometime before 6pm, it always arrives at my door by 10 am the next business day.

At the University of Alberta where I attend, I'm taking a science fiction class (Comp. Lit 342) where the predominant theme is analysis of cyberpunk literature, and the film "Ghost in the Shell" will be shown. I never knew that my expensive hobby would become academic :)

    The Cate Blanchett Appreciation Thread

I just watched The Talented Mr. Ripley the other day and was taken aback at how completely different in poise and bearing she was in that movie as compared to, say, Lord of the Rings. That's a mark of good acting.

Ditto, to tell the truth I'm not terribly interested in a Manga, as I suspect that adaptation wouldn't have much over the anime adaptation. But the idea of having the novels--chock full of world-creation minutae no doubt--would please me enormously. And hey, if english translations of "The...

Rob: Ebichu is indeed wonderful Gainax craziness, I recommend it to friends as the "anti-hamtaro" I can attest to the good value of the Korean Battle Royale 2-disc director's cut...with one caveat...the English subtitles in the extended scenes read like they were translated from Japanese...

I don't know, if indeed volume three mostly contains episodes done by Tsurumaki (I think he's the one who took over direction) I have to say I quite enjoyed them (the way overlong two-part recap episode aside) but then again, I'm as much a fan of Tsurumaki's work as Anno's.

Canadians don't usually take SATs to get into Post-secondary institutions (they just go by your GPA) but somebody brought a copy of an older SAT to school with them for some unspecified reason, I basically looked it over and wrote down what I thought were the correct answers as fast as...

Hey, am I the only one who's endlessly amused that Hideaki "Experimental Mindscrew" Anno (who directed Evangelion) has just announced he's the director for a live-action film adaptation of Cutey Honey? Also, is there any possibility that Anno's short animated film he made with studio Ghibli...

Cowboy Bebop Movie DVD box art?

Wow, that certainly blows mine out of the water, oh well. I'll probably do a bit of tweaking to his cover in terms of text, but just for my own personal print-off. Thanks for the link Richard

Cowboy Bebop Movie DVD box art?

Thanks for the support, right now I'm basically a little unhappy with the cover image...but I have no idea what to replace it with, perhaps I need to tweak the image or filter it to match the drawing style of the other ones...but I'm at a loss to figure out how at the moment...guess I'll just...

Cowboy Bebop Movie DVD box art?

Just as an experiment I decided to create a bebop movie cover that would match the series covers, so after a little fiddling in photoshop I came up with a 300dpi cover. The summary text has not yet been replaced, and I'm not very happy with the cover image, but tell me what you think so far...

Rob Is it just me? or is Sony Columbia/Tristar or Destination Films or whatever you want to call it one of the best anime distributors just starting in the business. For one they're the only company to put an anime in the theatre subtitled only (Metropolis) which means they trust a hardcore...

I'd just like to thank www.cnl.com for being run by a bunch of sneaky businessmen who find ways to max out my credit card time and time again. This time it was to buy the Animatrix and Cowboy Bebop motion picture DVDs and receive the July Issue of Newtype USA for a buck... I was tempted...
