Buying first bookshelf speakers, need help!

Concerning the Ascends, how do they perform for movies and the such? I watch/listen movies about 75% of the time. All the reviews say they sound great for music but nothng about home theater. Also, because of room layout, any speaker I purchase will have to sit inside an entertainment center. Do...

Buying first bookshelf speakers, need help!

I don't want to hijack your thread, but can anyone suggest a good bookshelf speaker with not so much emphasis on bass. Because of room constraints, I have to use bookshelf speakers but don't need something with great bass because I have a SVS 20-39pc+. I am also in the

SVS PB2-Plus Test and Review - Long

Ed, Thanks for costing me $1200+ with that great review. I currently have 20-39pc+ and till now have been very happy. After reading your review, I once again have the fever to upgrade. Just when I almost had enough money for a new HK 525 receiver. Well maybe I can put that purchase off...

    SVS on tile floor

Starting last weekend, I am replacing all the carpet in my living room with tile. At this point, I am going to put the sub back in its original spot. What kind of difference will tile have on the sound? Any concerns about poor sound? I saved a piece of carpet to put under the sub to keep it...

My SVS 16-46 has FINALLY impressed me!

Thanks Zack!! All this time I have been trying to increase the spl within one test section- for example, I would listen to the left center-sub phase test for a rise in spl while adjusting the phase knob. Scott

My SVS 16-46 has FINALLY impressed me!

Zack_R Is it possible to use the test you posted above about phase without using a microphone? I only have the RS spl meter. I do own a Avia disk but I find adjusting the phase while watching the meter difficult. Any suggestions on music? Thanks Scott

    Too much bass from mains

Brian Fellmeth- I am only running a digital coax cable from dvd player to receiver. As far as that goes, I don't have anything else hooked up to the receiver. Because it is a pain in the butt to move the receiver to drill holes in the entertainment center, I have yet to hook up my tv or my...

    Too much bass from mains

Using that method, will my Dobly Digital or DTS still sound the same? Like I said, at this point movies are my primary reason I use the receiver. I'll give it a try though. Scott

    Too much bass from mains

Thanks for the input. I will be getting a new receiver soon. I brought it up to the wife last night and she seemed less than thrilled. Since I use the receiver mostly for DVD (75 movie/25 music), I will have to make due till maybe income tax check arrives. Thanks again. Scott

    Too much bass from mains

I am thinking of buying another receiver but don't want to make the same mistake. I assume the Denon 3803 has better bass management. Any other suggestions ? Scott

    Too much bass from mains

There are no options to turn off on my receiver. None that I can find anyway.

    Too much bass from mains

I have the sub crossover turned off because thats the way SVS said to set it. I have my receiver set to 80hz but could go as high as 120hz if that might help. I assume by using the receiver's settings, most of the bass would be going to the sub but that doesn't seem to be the case. The little 6"...

    Too much bass from mains

Steve, Yes, I do keep the speaker settings to small during either music or movies. Since I use the dvd player as my cd player, I use the same settings on my receiver. The signal to the receiver is relayed through a digital coax cable from dvd player. The sub is connected to the LFE output...

    Too much bass from mains

I am getting too much bass from my mains while playing 2 channel mode. Because of room constraints/entertainment center, I have to use bookshelf mains. Normally this is not a problem because I mostly watch dvds in 5.1. Most of the bass is directed to the sub during movies. While listening to...
