I have 8.4s for mains and 8.1s for rears. I don't think you can go wrong with either the 8.1 or 8.2 for you rears. I have never heard the bipolars...good luck!

Todd, I don't know what Best Buy is getting for the Diamonds, but if that fits in her budget, go for it! I am positive she will be very pleased with their performance. Just to give you a reference point, I bought 8.4 mains, diamond 8 center and 8.1 rears for $899 online.

I had one that would still be working if my puppy hadn't decided to chew it :) It still lasted 4 years though and allowed me to snag one of the last DLS's.

From previous suggestions, I used a Y splitter and plugged the LFE from my receiver into both inputs on the DLS. Since the DLS sums the inputs, it yields like a 2 or 3db gain if you use them both.

My DLS is set to 180 for phase. The sub is facing my main/center speakers though... Although even if I didn't own a SPL meter, I would have been able to tell by ear that at 180 I was getting more output. I was really surprised that the phase made that much of a difference. BTW, I agree...

I have an 1803, however I believe the Direct mode is the same. When listening in Direct mode, all it does is NOT allow you to adjust tone levels (bass/treble). Your sub should still get a signal from whatever material is lower than your xovers setting.

Darrenn, All the tone defeat does when ON is NOT allow you to adjust the bass and treble. It supposedly produces higher quality sound because none of the audio goes through bass/treble proccessing. So unless you want more/less bass/treble, I would leave Tone Defeat ON. I agree, both music...
