How come Superbit DVD's have a seamless layer change (on my Sony DVD player)? Why don't all DVD's do that?

Sony USA obviously havn't had the technical bullitin about the update yet, what about contacting Sony of Singapore which is where that site appers to be? Why do manufacturers make it so hard to update our own kit? Do they think were all thick?
