    high-end receiver choice

Many thanks to everybody. I went to a couple of stores and had the chance to listen to Marantz 6400, 7400 and Denon 3805. I liked them, they seem better than my H/K but not that much better. However, the bottom line is that after the initial excitement subsided a little, I could not say...

    high-end receiver choice

    high-end receiver choice

Merimac: I probably was not clear in the first post. As you said, given that the new 7.1 receivers are better for 5.1 than 5.1 receivers (I don't think anyone is developing top-of-the-line 5.1 receivers) I have to look for a 7.1 receiver and I am concerned about performance when only 5...

    high-end receiver choice

I kind of don't understand your response. I already have the Klipsch speakers and even though they are not the latest models, they are pretty high end IMHO. My problem is what to do with the receiver and if I decide to get a high-end receiver (most of which are now 7.1) how to pick it given that...

    high-end receiver choice

A friend moved to Europe and sold me his Klipsch 5.1 speaker set at a nice price (RF-3, RB-3, RSW-10). I had a basic JBL speaker system (Northridge, PB-10) with a HK receiver (AVR-225). I am going to sell the speakers and I am leaning towards selling him the receiver too. I am not sure...

    Marantz 4300, H/K 225

Thanks Jose. I believe that if you purchase something that you have researched well so that it satisfies the requirements you want you will not be dissapointed. Perhaps something else is better when compared through more objective measures but I can't say I have noticed a dissapointing...

    Marantz 4300, H/K 225

Update: I got the AVR-225 and decided to post why I came to this decision: 1. The Marantz is a little warmer and 6 channel, but I couldn't say that it sounded better than the H/K. 2. H/K is a little more powerful per channel, 3. I listened to Logic7 on more material and found...

    Watching widescreen DVD's

Michael: I believe 4:3 letterbox will squeeze full screen dvds. As you said 16:9 doesn't and this is why I believe the mode is pointless when you have 16:9.

    Watching widescreen DVD's

You are correct. When you turn on 16:9 enhanced you should make sure the DVD is set for a 16:9 TV because this is what you have set your TV to work like. 4:3 letterbox is kind of useless in my opinion when you have 16:9 enhanced on your TV. 4:3 panscan is for full screen and non-anamorphic DVDs.

    Marantz 4300, H/K 225

Update: I am leaning away from the Marantz because I decided to focus on a 5 channel system. I don't want to pay for extra amps. It also is not a true 6x80. See power consumption specs. Sound is not that different from H/K. H/K is a little cheaper so I am leaning towards it. I also...

    Marantz 4300, H/K 225

I'm sorry for the poor explanation. I am not sure how useful Logic7 is in the lower-end H/K receivers when from what I see it takes 2.0 source material and converts it to 5.1 or 7.1 (conversion from 5.1 to 7.1 is implemented in the most expensive model). Wouldn't it be better to stick to Dolby...

    Marantz 4300, H/K 225

I would like your opinions on these "musical" receivers around $400 to replace an old dying Sony. I am not looking at Denon very seriously because I can't find any authorized dealers selling the 1803 at a competitive price and I feel that the 1603 is not as good. I will use it for music &...
