Yea, opticals work fine on pads so long as it's not glossy or reflective. I see people using their optical mice on shiny glass topped tables and wondering why it goes all nuts on them hehe. I suppose ideally for optical would be a pad with tons of tiny specs of alternating colors for it to...
Yup, that's a sign of infection. The virus is keeping its eye out for the processes it thinks are dangerous and killing em. Running a diff named copy of the prog got around that. You'll want to go ahead and try to scan the box and clean it like Cees Alons suggested. If it doesn't work out...
Try this.. hit start, run, type CMD and hit OK. You'll get a DOS window. Copy this line: copy %systemroot%PCHealthHelpCtrBinariesmsconfig.ex e %systemroot%mscfg.exe then right click the DOS window and choose Paste. Hit enter. It should say 1 file(s) copied. Type exit and hit enter. Now hit...
Alot of viruses kill msconfig along with regedit to protect themselves. Try doing start, run, type regedit and hit OK. If you don't get a window named "Registry Editor" you certainly have a virus. Well, either way can't hurt to do a scan and be sure you update your definitions. Of course, lots...
I'm a big fan of EditPad (http://www.editpadpro.com/editpadlite.html). It's very versatile, supports tabbed windows, huge files, a VERY large undo buffer, and best of all it's FREE :) I do all my coding in EditPad. Sure, you can go the easy route and get a WYSIWYG but I believe it's best to...
I transitioned to naked DSL. I had a phone line set up in my Baltimore apartment when I moved down and started DSL with Covad. After a few months I realized it was a waste to have a landline when I have a cell from my employer so I cut the phone service off. My DSL remained unaffected :)
We need more information to provide a reasonably accurate recommendation.. how large is the room? How much ambient light will there be when watching the PJ? What material are you watching (e.g. SD, HDTV, DVD, PC, etc)?
I've never been a fan of eMachines. I personally would avoid buying prebuilt store computers at all. I much prefer to build my own.. more reliable (because I built it and I chose quality hardware) and cheaper. For example I could build that Compaq for about $250 cheaper.
As it has been mentioned, the most important thing to do is scale it back to the basics. Disable all the services you don't need, don't use the themes, disable the stupid fade effect, etc. It runs OK on my old 233 system.

I bought a Linksys 8 port KVM but idiotically did not check the type of cables it uses.. once I got it in the mail I found out it didn't use a "regular" KVM style cable but rather a DB25->KVM. The Linksys DB25 cables are $20 a pop too. Ugh.

I'm also voicing some support to the ride-faster-than-traffic ideal. I haven't ridden all that long compared to some people.. about 13 years.. but I sweat bullets when I get surrounded by cars when I'm riding on the highway. I don't trust anyone. I agree about the pack roadrace thing too...

Lindsay is certainly hot, but Keira is definently grade A :) Another lesser known actress that I think is pretty pleasing to the eye is Chase Masterson:
The problem is your FAT file system. Load 2k/XP and use NTFS to get around that issue. There are supposedly tools you can get to use NTFS with a 9x engine OS, but that'd be pretty absurd.
Another alternative to the Z2 is the Panasonic AE-500u. I was originally going to get a Z2 but changed my mind and decided to go with the 500u. They're almost the same, specwise. The spec comparison according to projectorcenteral 500u/Z2 is lumens 850/800, max res 1920x1080 / 1280 x 1024, CR...
If your timeframe is a couple months, you may as well not waste your time putting together a spec till you are closer to your deadline. Things change so darned fast :)
After reading your post I went to check out Dell's deal on the PowerEdge. Looks sweet. Ended up showing as $389. I then went to Pricewatch to compare. Built a comparable system as follows: $21 Generic Mid ATX Case /w 250w PS $197 PC Chips M920LMR mobo with Pentium 4 2.4ghz chip (onboard lan...
I have a few servers. They are providing several services. My Dell P4 2.0ghz is a file, web, ftp & primary DNS server. I have an old Pentium 233 for mail & secondary DNS and a Pentium 800 for an Active Directory domain controller. I have grandiose plans for more stuff and a conversion to rack...
I'm going to build my HTPC. These are the specs that I've come up with awhile:

Antec SX1030 /w 420W dual fan PS
