Need a SIMPLE audio/video receiver for the parents. Nothing complicated!

Sound bars suck. I hate them. And when they built their house we made sure to have the living room wired for 5.1, speakers installed into the walls. it's a great setup and has superb sound. So 5.1 is absolutely necessary. The Marantz looks interesting. I am going to see if I can find one...

Well it is happening. I found an open box Panasonic DMP BDT230 for less than $40 shipped. It will do everything the folks need so I am happy to have found a solution. 90 day warranty too.

Need a SIMPLE audio/video receiver for the parents. Nothing complicated!

One issue is my parents hate touchscreens. They want a remote with buttons. Oh boy. That's an issue for smarter remotes. Ten years ago this wasn't an issue but now it seems they really do struggle with technology that used to be simple for them. Age sucks.

Need BD player with OPTICAL output, Wifi and Netflix. Coming up empty. WTH?

Okay, I need something that would seem to be quite simple. A BD player that has 1. Wifi and 2. Netflix and 3. OPTICAL audio output. It has to have all three. And right now i cannot find ANY that do! WTH is going on here? What am i missing here? It's a long story, but it HAS to have...

Need a SIMPLE audio/video receiver for the parents. Nothing complicated!

Hi all, I gave my parents my old Denon audio/video receiver many years ago and it lacks HDMI. Everything was component. Now of course times have changed and all of their latest gear is HDMI (BD player, DircTV receiver), which means they are always switching inputs on the TV. Never mind the...

I concur. This blew my mind. 120 inch screen and it felt like a 35mm print. Astounding. Hilariously dated movie, but great fun.

Someone at Fox - please evaluate

This is pretty obvious. All of these newer FOX transfers suffer from the same anomalies. It's as if the color space has been clipped. These transfers are just wrong. Unfortunately the messengers are frequently attacked in forums like this and elsewhere and that is a shame. To the original...

Blu-ray Review The Sword in the Stone Blu-ray Review

That is all rather obvious. DNR DNR DNR. This is beyond sloppy for Disney. Frankly, I don't understand how it could pass QC. It's just bad. Real bad. Will kids care? No. But that is not what it is supposed to look like. Have the people who mastered The Longest Day switched to Disney?

Scene from a movie where male actor is in awe of his surroundings?

LoL, no, you are not. :D I think I found what I need. Bill Murray in the car at the beginning of Lost in Translation. he has the correct look of WOW on his face in one shot.

Scene from a movie where male actor is in awe of his surroundings?

No Sci-Fi. No Sci-Fi. No Sci-Fi. :) I will check out On the Town. What would work best is a modern day film. 80's to present day. That's what I need to really pull off what I am trying to pull off.

Scene from a movie where male actor is in awe of his surroundings?

OK, let me be more specific. No Sci-Fi. No monsters. Just a normal person in our real world who is in a new place (city, safari, etc.) and he (or she) has a look of "Wow, this is amazing" on his or her face.

Glasses are expensive and in this economy... well... I need new ones but don't really have the 100 plus clams needed. I am wondering if anyone here has ever purchased online and what the experience was like? Prices seem loonytunes crazy cheaper so what's the catch?

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows (Parts I and II) discussion

Amazing. The Ziegfeld Theater in NYC is showing Harry Potter twice daily in 3D and twice daily in 2D. I was instantly excited that I could see it in 2D, then I remembered... They will need to switch the lens. Will they actually do that between each show? Switching lenses on a digital projector...

A Few Words About A few words about...™ The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Extended Edition -- in Blu-ray

The screen shots have come from multiple sources. Not one. All look the same. All are GREEN. The evidence is right there, yet so many here choose to attack and even malign people who are just showing the obvious. This is sad. Truly sad. I certainly don't want to be a part of it. Good luck...

    The Tree of Life (2011)

Jack, your post certainly comes across like an insult. I do hope that was not your intention. It's kind of sad if I am not allowed to express my opinion, especially when I did it so respectfully. You don't even mention all the aspects of the film I praised. For the record, I love much of...
