I would highly recommend the Onkyo HTS-650, but as others have mentioned, it does not include a DVD player. But the sound is outstanding, and I got mine recently and it does not have the LFE problem (reported elsewhere in this forum - Onkyo is fixing the problem in those rec. that have it)...
Just an FYI. I purchased my set early this month and the receiver works fine in all modes. I've used both the infamous Attack of the Clones opening scene and a THX optimizer on the Moulin Rouge DVD and both seem to work fine in mode 3. BTW, I got scared when using AVIA because I couldn't get any...
Kurt this is good news, if Onkyo is now acknowledging the problem and providing a fix. I've ordered a set through an online store, and was thinking of cancelling (but the darn system sounds SOOOOOO good - especially given the cost). Now I'm glad I didn't cancel it.
Thank you. I've read on a couple of other threads that NEC does not have the best video processor, so it's probably worth a shot, especially since progressive scan players have become so much more reasonably priced recently.
Hi. I currently have a NON-progressive scan DVD player connected to my NEC-lt157 projector using S-Video. Should I expect to see much of a difference by using a Progressive Scan DVD player and using a component video connection? Thanks,
do a search for 'hts650' and you will find a number of threads discussing the problem. Apparantly the fault is only with some receivers (a bad batch) and even that many users may not discover. The LFE signel is distorted or does not get played in one of the three receiver modes.
Brad, you may want to look at the Onkyo HTS650 home theater system. Receiver+5 speakers+powered sub. Do a search for hts650 and you will get a bunch of hits. Beware though, that some recievers have a LFE problem in one of three playback modes, but it is my understanding that it was a problem...
Dave, if you order from Soundcity, and the price is $499 (which includes shipping), ask the sales person if they are going to have their 'sale' on these again. For the last few months they keep switching the price back and forth from $434 (also including shipping - this is an outstanding price)...
Dave, it appears that this may be a CC thing. Most of the online stores (Soundcity.com for example) have not changed their prices on this - of course they may just be slow in catching up... :)
Have a look at the other thread regarding the Onkyo problem. Apprantly it is being addressed, and with the LFE problem (which exists on some of the speakers) licked, it would be an awesome system for the price.
However, I don't see any problem using another speaker with the speakers. I haven't...
Onkyo's HTS-650 didn't make the top ten HTIB list - interesting. Despite the LFE problem (which, I gather, is now being acknowdleged by the company and should be fixed), all the reviews on the sound quality of this have been outstanding...
Hey thanks for the warning - I've been going back and forth between RPTV and FPTV and I KNOW my kids will be attaching a gaming system to whatever I get - so I guess I'll go with an FPTV system...
Paul, thank you for your reply, and I hadn't even looked at the 240 (or really thought about the throw distance) - I have to look into it. I've been hearing a bit about this 'rainbow' effect and have found a store near here that sells DLP projectors (though they don't have NEC's), but that...
Hi. I'm about to buy my first projector for an FPTV set-up (total newbie here, so having a lot of fun). I've been looking at various projectors and saw the specs on this new NEC DLP unit that seem awesome for where it's priced (between $3,000 and $3,500). XGA native (with UXGA supported), good...
Hi there. I'm very new at this and am looking to spend about $3,500 for a projection system. Any opinions on which might be better front or rear. There are some nice DLP front projectors now available at this price range (i.e, Sharp PG-M20X, etc.) as well as some cool rear projection system...
