I bought this unit and have been putting it through its paces. I am not yet ready to post a "formal" review but will try to answer questions. First off, in regards to Jeff's comments, the Sharp DOES INDEED have variable bit rate recording! In addition, the firewire input IS on the front panel...

Has anyone heard anything on this DVD recorder with HD? It has an 80GB HD and records to -R/-RW and also has a firewire input. I've heard that it's built alongside the Pioneer 510. It's feature set seems pretty similar. I'm intrigued but wanted to know if anyone's had a chance to use one. Thanks...
Those Mirage speakers at Tweeter are the AVS series. They are "sister" speakers to the infamous Energy Take 5 system (now sold as Take 5+1). Hope that helps.
Rick - I've never used an H/K player so I can't comment on performance. I do know that the DVD25/DVD101 use the NS Mediamatics Pantera II chip for deinterlacing. Also, H/K is about to release two new players, the DVD22 (MSRP $249) and the DVD31 (MSRP $349). The only difference I see is that...
In regards to #2, I've read (but not seen 100% confirmed) that you can only burn the firmware upgrade using Nero. Is this correct? Currently I use Adaptec for burning CDs. I ask because I am seriously considering this player. Surely someone has this DVD player and does not have Nero?!?
OK, I read the whole thread and didn't see this: Has anyone A/B the Liteon's 1080i against the Denon DVD-1600's 480p? I'm very intrigued by the Liteon with it's 1080i over component and scaling abilities. Thanks in advance!
If you're interested in HK DVD players, you may want to wait a little while. In September HK had a press release introducing the new DVD 22 (MSRP $249) and DVD 31 (MSRP $349). The major difference between the two appears to be that the 31 has DVD-A. Onecall has them listed on their website (not...
Also "in stock" at abtelectronics. Same price as Crutchfield and always have free shipping if under 50 pounds. Excellent customer service and free return shipping also!
Well I stopped at my local Tweeter last night. At least the salesguy had heard of the 2200. He actually had a spec comparison chart that had it listed. His quote was "It looks like a less beefy 2900..." Anyway, no release date was given, but it showed an MSRP of $629 - hopefully street price...
Keith - Yeah, I found nothing either by going through the "main" Denon site. However, using this Link to Denon DVD-2200 pulls up the "New Model Information" pdf on it. Looks promising - especially at (or below) the $600 price point (at least that's what I'm reading elsewhere). I wonder if it...
Ron - About a year ago, I decided to give the bluejeans component cables a shot. As with David, I was impressed with the build quality, fast shipping and excellent price. However, none of that prepared me for the performance! :D To make a long story short, my entire system is now...
Has anyone bought one of these "factory renewed" units? I've been wanting a HDD "VCR replacement" but didn't like the idea of a $250 to $300 activiation fee. I was just wondering if anyone has had any problems with these refurb units? Also, I notice that the description mentions that these...
In that chart, Denon also claims that the 2900 does not have the CUE. However, on certain material, the guys at Secrets proved otherwise. Since the 900 had the CUE, I'd take that comparison chart with a grain of salt.
ReggieW - If you look at the pdf Denon has available and scroll to the bottom and take a look at the pic of the rear panel, it appears that the 1200 does indeed have digital coaxial out. It also mentions coaxial digital out under the "Audio Section" portion of the pdf. Manufacturers are well...
I'm currently running a Panny DVD-XP50 into my Panny PT-47WX52. A strange thing is happening when I power down - either with the DVD on or at the generic "DVD-Audio/Video" screen. When I shut the XP50 off, for a split second, red and blue lines streak across the screen followed by a green...
Brian - what I'm looking for is a hard-drive and TV tuner in an A/V component-sized box! Our TV viewing habits do not warrant spending $250 (minimum) for a Tivo/ReplayTV unit and then $300 (or $13 a month) for service. If I truly felt that I would get all the benefits of a full-blown Tivo or...
I see companies are planning products that incorporate Tivo Basic Service in them (e.g. Toshiba's PS DVD player w/ Tivo). I was wondering if anyone knew if any manufacturers are planning standalone units that only have the hard drive and Tivo Basic Service? Or will I never see my ideal VCR...
Nick - Back when I owned the 4800, I had this same question and came upon someone who had emailed Toshiba regarding this. Toshiba's response is below. Hope this helps! I RECIEVED AN E-MAIL RESPONSE FROM TOSHIBA REGARDING THE BLACK LEVEL EXPANSION. THEY CLAIM THAT IN THE PICTURE SETTINGS...
After 4½ long months of waiting , my new screen frame/cabinet front arrived for my PT-47WX52. The new frame does not have the felt tape that is on the perimeter of the inside of the frame on the old one. Any thoughts on exactly what purpose this felt tape serves and whether or not I...
