The video hookup is S-Video, this is the highest standard that my 7 year old 32" Sony will support. It was a rented disk, but a new release, so not too many plays, I will look at the disk tonight when I get home.
I have an issue that crops up once in awhile while playing DVD's. The picture will totally cut out, black screen, but the sound will continue to play normally. I have an optical cable hook up. Is it possible that the cable has some defect or has been damaged? This is my first system and the...
The other night wife and I were watching DVD movie "Basic" when all of the sudden ( about 5 minutes into the movie we lost the picture but the sound kept playing ). I changed to another DVD disk and it started with a picture and went black with sound in less than one minute. Turning the thing...
I am running the DVD into the hk-520 with an optical digital cable for video and composite cables for audio. Before having HT the DVD never skipped a beat, but you may be right. I will try cleaning the disk.
The picture freezes on the screen in one spot and the sound stops. I haven't ran the movie back and see if it stops in the same spot. After I stopped it and skipped forward back to approximately the same spot it played to the end of the movie without incident. It did a similar thing with Star...
I have a HK 520 and it freezes sometimes when playing a dvd. It never does this when playing CD's, the regular tv stations or VHS tapes. It is on a rack with shelves and no sides, there is only a bit more than 1" to the next shelf above. Will taking the shelf above and giving it more ventilation...
I had a second thought, the router is best next tool just for building speaker cabinets. A rechargable electric drill is the tool I personally use the most often around the house or on craft projects.
Table saws are a great tool if you have the money and the space. I agree with all that a router is probably the best second tool. Jonathan, good looking dog, and the furniture is real nice too.
I did fill the sub up with polyfill. I weighed the bag prior to adding and after. I used 9 ounces of poly. Tried to pull it apart fairly evenly, about 2 to 2.5" thick, trimmed it with scissors fairly square. I did use a heavy duty stapler to hold it back up front so no contact with the speaker...
Thanks to all the replies. The wife keeps asking me what I am going to do with the bag of white fuzz. I told her not to toss it or put it away. Tonight the polyfill goes in, and I will play a few tracks off Pearl Harbor. I will let you folks know how it goes.;) ;)
Yes it would be great to see a picture of a lined sub enclosure. Also I assume you need to staple the stuff to the sides so it does not shift to unwanted locations.
I have my system pretty much set up and it works fine. I have read about stuffing the Sony subs with polyfill, using about one half to three quarters of a pound of the stuff and lining the inside so it does not touch the speaker or blocks the port. It appears I need to unscrew the speaker to...
I also have HK reciever. There is a hole through the shaft that the red and black knobs screw onto. Screw it out far enough that you can see the hole. Not wanting the chance of stray wires shorting out I went with banana plugs. They plug into the hole in the back of the red/black knobs.
My receiver is an AVR-520 HK, this receiver has its binding posts pretty close together. I chose AR banana plugs. They cost half as much as monster. Also they have a color coded rubber boot that will help with stray strands. This is my first set up and had it unplugged several times and the...
I wired my new addition a year before getting HT. A few things I wish did different. 1. You will want to run 14 or 12 gage wire that is rated for in wall use. I ran 16 gage in wall rated wire on the advice of the guy at the electric and plumbing supply store. "This is what all the builders are...
I would like to thank all you that replied. The tips were helpful. I have got all components set up through delays. Now will tackle sound levels. Probably will be back for macros. They look like a good thing to set up.
the tip about selecting the video input on the tv gave me a blue screen. the tip about hitting avr/on and avr/osd got me to OSD. right now i am trying to set up input. there doesn't appear to be a S-video selection. should this be set to analog? the owners manual is pretty poor unless you...
Thnanks for the replies. Am at work now so cant try any of this stuff. I did have the power button on. As far as having the s-video selected on my tv, do I have to go into tv set up menus for that to be selected. I didn't have to when i had just the dvd into it. I will try the remote...
I just got all my gear (speakers and receiver wednesday). I have a Harmon Kardon AVR-520 and 1996 model Sony KV32s35. The television has both S-video and two sets of RCA inputs, it has variable audio out and cable hook ups. Set up all speakers to receiver. Ran S-video out from receiver...
I am very new at this, have downloaded reciever manual and been reading this and other forums. My equipment varies in age from 6 yr tv, 3 yr vcr and 1 yr dvd. Think I have figured out video does not like formats mixed. Here is my equipment configurations: TV (Sony KV32S35): S-Video / two...
Have a couple questions on filling the cavity of the WM-40. Give me a run down, what with, how much? Lots of good advice on htf, found out the regular wire so carefully ran in the walls of the addition to a corner sub position will not give good results. Guess a visit to the crawl space with a...
I want to thank all the people with their comments. Went ahead and just ordered the JBL NSP-1II, Sony WM-40 & HK AVR 520 from Etronics. Was under my hoped budget of $1K a few bucks including shipping. So far very impressed with Etronics, they will not ship to other than your billing address...
I am truly a HT newbie, read reader comments and listened to some equipment. Finally ready to order, almost. I am considering the NSP-1 system, but had a thought, would a 3 way S center help the sound? I think I will stay with the four N-24 front and rears. No sub for now. will go with the HK...
