Sony NS9100ES vs. Pioneer Elite DV-79AVi

Kevin - Thank you for the link. Very comprehensive list and test results/summaries. I think I've decided to purchase neither at this time and will investigate other options.

Sony NS9100ES vs. Pioneer Elite DV-79AVi

Dave - Thanks for the first hand insite to at least one of the models I'm considering. My local dealer isn't carrying either one in lieu of Blue-Ray and HD-DVD. I'm assuming Silicon Optix is a "chip set" is that correct? If so, who uses it? Where can I find the benchmark tests you refer to...

Sony NS9100ES vs. Pioneer Elite DV-79AVi

I'm looking to upgrade to an upconverting DVD/CD player that does a great job at both video and audio for use with my new Pioneer Pro1540 HD Plasma TV. I'm considering either a Sony DVPNS9100ES or Pioneer Elite DV-79AVi. Any feedback on either one of these units or, if at all possible, a head to...

    Rotel vs. B&K.......

Thanks - I would appreciate that. I tried to look up a dealer in Michigan but the Distributor's web-site didn't list one - just launched an e-mail - which I didn't send.

    Rotel vs. B&K.......

John - Great review - but - the M250 doesn't seem to still be offered. Web-site no longer lists the M250 - seems to have gone the same way as Classe's CAM350 which I had decided to buy. What do you think about the Rotel vs. B&K?

    Rotel vs. B&K.......

Ted - I sent you a reply on AVS but now I'm curious. What mono-blocks are you referring to? The only one's I found on their web-site is the KW series which is very expensive. Am I missing something?

    Rotel vs. B&K.......

I'm half way through my theater/music room upgrade and I'm second guessing myself. I have Nautilus 802's, HTM1, and 803's (may upgrade to 802's in the future) for speakers. I've ordered a B&K Ref. 50 for my Pre/Pro. Planned on five B&K Ref. 200.1 mono-blocks for amplification. Here's the...

    B&K Ref. 200.1 Mono-blocks....

Thanks for everyone's response. Well, I finally went and did it (I've been researching for over 3 months). I'm returning my N804's and I'm going to sell my N803's so I can go with N802's all around. I really love the fuller sound of the mid and upper range of the N802's. I'm put off getting a...

    B&K Ref. 200.1 Mono-blocks....

I'm looking for feedback from those that own or have personally tried B&K's Ref. 200.1 mono-blocks. What speakers are you driving? What is your impression of them as it relates to music/movies? Thanks.

    Please Help- B&K Seperates Problems

Tim - I haven't seen it yet (I'm waiting for my Ref. 50) but I understand the Ref. 50 is supposed to come with software so that you can set the system up on a computer and transfer to the Ref. 50. Here again, your local dealer should be able to help you. Good luck. I'm glad things worked out...

    Please Help- B&K Seperates Problems

Tim - I know it doesn't make sense but I had issues with my 7000 as well as with my Pioneer Elite DVD player when I first plugged them in (at separate times). When I plugged them back in after leaving them unplugged for 12-24 hrs. they both began working properly. Don't know why, but they...

    Please Help- B&K Seperates Problems

Tim - I'm assuming you are referring to a Monster HTPS 7000. Why aren't you plugging your B&K equipment into the 7000? I've got an AVR 307 plugged into my HTPS 7000 and have had no trouble. I'm upgrading in the near future to a Ref. 50 and 200.1 monoblocks and am still planning on plugging...

Amps vs. Watts - What is more important

Kevin - The speakers I have are B&W 803's (although I may upgrade to 802's). The sensitivity is 90 db. I'm assuming that this meets the definition of a high sensitivity speaker. Am I correct? Thanks, Paul

    Velodyne DD-15's or B&W Nautilus 850's?

Deane- My local dealer, that sells both, is recommending the Velodyne as well. I guess I was hoping that there was overwhelming response to this thread that the B&W was better so that I felt justified staying within the same speaker family; and aesthetically it matched the rest of the system...

    Velodyne DD-15's or B&W Nautilus 850's?

Is a "different sounding" sub a good thing or bad? Unfortunately, my local dealer doesn't have either one in stock so I can't demo them.

Amps vs. Watts - What is more important

Chu - Do I take your original response to mean either amp will do just fine and that you don't think that one has an advantage over the other?

    Expensive Speaker Suggestions

Ken - I would second Shane's suggestion. In addition, the B&W HTM1 is a great center speaker (it's designed to go with the either the 802's or 803's in the front). I currently am running 803's and the HTM1 in the front. I'm going to have either 803's or 804's in the back but received a lot of...

Amps vs. Watts - What is more important

So - is there a bottom line? Which of the two amps? I find the techinical discussion educational and interesting (especially since the EEs that I work with didn't have time to talk about this before going on vacation), but I'm trying to make sure that buying #2 is the better of the two...

    Velodyne DD-15's or B&W Nautilus 850's?

Other than the room equalization, which I may be able to do with an EQ meter or in some other manner, how does the Velodyne surpass the B&W? They're both 1000+ watts, 15" driver, and have an enclosed cabinet design.

Amps vs. Watts - What is more important

Chu - Amp 1 is a five channel amp. Not sure of the 2 ohm rating. The 55 amps peak to peak is with all channels running. Amp 2 is a mono-block and has 650 watts @ 2 ohms.

Amps vs. Watts - What is more important

I've compared two different amps and don't understand the trade-offs. I've decided on Amp 2 but want to make sure I haven't missed something. The first amp "doubles down" the other doesn't - at least mathematically - based on published specs. Which one is better for low level listening and...

    B&W Nautilus Speakers - Which One's

Mark C./Ted - I really appreciate your responses. I guess I'm not sure what the 803's would go for in the used market vs. buying new 805's and stands. My assumption is that I wouldn't get more than $2k for them, if that. I've owned the 803's for a couple of years. The 804's I currently...

    Velodyne DD-15's or B&W Nautilus 850's?

I'm upgrading my Home Theater/Music set-up. I've made a decision on all of the equipment except for the subs. I need user feedback on the Velodyne DD-15's and the B&W Nautilus ASW 850's. My local high-end shop doesn't stock either one - but will order. From the specs they both seem to be very...

    B&W Nautilus Speakers - Which One's

Ted - If I purchased the 802's for the fronts, would there be any harm in keeping the 803's for the rears? By the time I bought the 805's, stands, etc. I may end up close to what I would get selling the 803's. Subwoofer - I've been considering two 850's or two Velodyne DD-15's. Do you...

    B&W Nautilus Speakers - Which One's

Mark C. - Money is important, but not as important as making a decision such that I want to change in a year (especially if the current Nautilus finishes aren't available). Currently my theater is shared with a fireplace, foozball table, etc. It's 23'8" (L) X 23' (W) X 8' (H). However, if...

    B&W Nautilus Speakers - Which One's

I currently own Nautilus 803's and HTM1 that I'm using for my home theater as well as music. I've purchased 804's that are still in their box. I've since decided to upgrade my electronics to B&K Ref. 50 and 200.1 mono-blocks L,C,R and possible the rears as well (or 200.2 for the rears)...
