Breaking the news of a purchase to your significant other

When I pick up stuff I usually use the magic words "It was on sale." or "There was a really good rebate deal." The Infocus X1 was bought under "It has a free extended warranty and a rebate offer that makes it a really good deal." We always talk about the "possibility" of buying something, but...

    Pioneer D811s owner's!

With my 811s, I'm using: N26II as mains N-Center N24II as surrounds No surround back DLS 10" on sub preout Crossover is setup to 100Hz, all channels set to small. I do not listen with loudness or midnight turned on as to my ears they don't sound "right." I always select DTS where...

Impressions of the DLS 10 (long)

Nater, More like a Kia to a Toyota, rather than the Mercedes. The upgrade to a SVS would be the Mercedes. I'm quite impressed with the DLS 10", and adding the Aura BassShakers to the mix that PE has right now really add that "big bass" feel at a great budget price.

Help ... Replacing-out Bose Lifestyle speakers

MikeDep, I have a set of 201 and a set of 301. While 2 channel music sounds pretty good, and the 301s have some nice extension on bass, the design of the tweeter mounts plays havoc on the sound field. Bose says that it makes the music sound fuller and all around you, but you do not get the...

Help ... Replacing-out Bose Lifestyle speakers

I've experience with the Acoustimass system, not the Lifestyle system. The Acoustimass setup comes with the "Bass Module" and the cube speakers, but is driven off of components instead of the "music console." I imagine that the speakers in both systems are the same, so I'll base my answer off of...

Discontinued Dls 10" Powered Subwoofer System

There are a couple other threads on this. I guess the supplier couldn't keep quality up, so PE discontinued the model. I would assume since the sub was selling so well, that they are actively looking for another supplier to make something like the DLS 10 inch sub of the same quality for around...

    Pioneer VSX-D811S Opinions?

There are quite a few post in the archives of this forum about the 811s. A search would turn up quite a few. That said, I have a VSX-D811s driving JBL speakers in a 5.1 sound stage and I'm very happy with the performance. I have a 90" projection system, and the 811s fills out the sound very...

Anyone have experience with Dayton Audio Cables?

I'm not exactly sure what your question is. I use the Dayton cables, and I am quite pleased with them. I've the 25' Svideo going from my av reciever to the X1, a 3' Svideo from the DVD to the AV reciever, and the 3' digital coax. All are well made and the connectors are quite nice. I should...

Largest TV that is usable for console gaming?

wouldn't LCD RPTV and DLP RPTV be safe from burn in? I thought that was an issue with RPTV that use CRT projection systems?

HTF REVIEW: "My Big FAT Greek Wedding" (with screenshots)

Best scene has to be the one that ends "... was my twin." My wife and I watched this just last night, very funny movie.

Best Receiver for $350 and DVD player under $150?

Here's a vote for the Pioneer 811s. Very nice AV reciever. I've had one for 3 months now and have nothing but praise for it. If you can find one of the infamous Panasonic RP82 DVD players, snap it up. Great bang for the buck. Also highly rated is the RP91, but it may be a little out of your...

My dad has a bose sound system, what sub could I pair up with it?

My father has a Bose setup, and recently went with the DLS 10" sub from Parts Express. A little over $100 US shipped and he's quite pleased with it. It is not passive, but an active sub with 100 watt plate amp built in. Rounds out the sound nicly...

HTF REVIEW: "About A Boy" (with screenshots)

I'm quite a fan of "British" humor and tend to pick up most of Hugh Grant's movies because I enjoy the dry humor and my wife enjoys the stories. We rented "About a Boy" last night, and I found myself laughing for a majority of the movie. (The "Godfather" scene is hilarious!) I like this movie...

    Bought a DLS today

I ordered one for my dad on Monday 1/6/03 and PE said that it wouldn't ship for two weeks. He recieved it on Friday 1/10/03 in the afternoon. Granted, we are only a few hundred miles away from PE HQ in Ohio, but I was shocked that it came in so quickly. He is tickled with this sub as an...

    Pioneer 811or Marantz 4300???

I've not heard the Marantz, but I do own the VSX-D811s. I'm very happy with it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a very good under $400 reciever. I'm not going to pretend it's better than some THX cert Denon, but I'm very pleased with it.

Multi room capibility & VSX D811

I'll second SeanDM's response. The VSX-D811s is not multi room capable in the sense that you could play a DVD in room A and have a CD playing in room B. You could use both A and B speakers to play a CD in both rooms however.

    Most spent on one platform!

I guess I'm lucky. My wife and I were renting DVDs and I saw the DVD of GameCube demos so I picked that up. Fast forward a few months and I get a GameCube setup for at home from her for Christmas. $325 bucks for the GameCube, memory card, and two games, Metroid Prime and Super Mario Sunshine...

The wife said Yes ... (longish)

I've not had trouble at all with my wife with anything in the setup. The only thing she balked at was mounting the surrounds on the wall in the living room. She said I had to have them on speakers stands instead. Latest step was approving the purchase of an Infocus X1 DLP projector. She's...

Anyone picked up The Two Towers for GC?

I picked this FotR: TT today when EB said they did not know where the last in store copy of Mario Party 4 got off to. I'm glad I did now that I've started playing. I'm usually not a fan of the hack and slash games, but being a HUGE fan of LotR makes this enjoyable, and who knows, it might make...

    s-video cable for gamecube?

Jonathan, Depending on what reciever you have, it might, but I doubt it. Most receivers, as in almost everyone, do not up-convert Svideo to Component video. I could BS you a reason why having to do with tech, the stars, and Monster Cable wanting to sell more wire, but I really don't know...

    JBL S26 match with N26?

I've the N26 as mains and the N-Center as my center. If you want to use the S26 as mains, get the S-Center, your front sound field would match better. You could then use the N26 as your surrounds and you wouldn't notice too much of a difference between the two surround speakers on pans between...
