The 7300 will definitely not pass 100mhz, since the 7400 which replaced it only passes 80mhz. Marantz never published the component video frequency response for the 7300 (at least it's not in the manual). That said, I have been running HD through my 7300 since day 1, and to my eye, do not notice...
You're in luck! The Z1 has a 5 year warantee, so no matter what the problem is, they will fix it at no charge to you. Of course, if you were using this an as excuse to upgrade to the Z9, you could still trade the Z1 in after you got it fixed!
At what volume does the receiver go into "protect" when you play a DVD? I drive speakers that dip as low as 4 ohms nominal with an SR7300, don't use a separate subwoofer, and have never had the reciver go into "protect", even at sustained volume levels of -5dB (pretty loud!). At that volume...
Dean, thank you so much for getting an answer to my speaker impedance switch question, and from the top man himself! Just one follow-up question. There is no fan opening on the back panel of the AVR300 like there is on the AVR200. Does that mean that there is no fan (or have they moved it to...
Dean, I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the AVR300 too. Although I liked the sound of the 200, I had to pass on it because it did not meet my video switching needs (my Loewe HDTV will only accept one component video input). One thing that concerns me about the 300 is the 4ohm/8ohm speaker...
Yes, one of your wonderful little kiddies probably did goof something up. I had the same problem with a Yamaha changer. What it turned out to be is that one of the disks had slipped off the carousel and fallen into the machine. You could still put 5 disks into the carousel, but when it would try...
The Denon 1815 does not have color controls. Neither does their top of the line changer, the 4800. My top of the line Yamaha, the CX1, doesn't either. I am not aware of any mainstream changers that do.
Steve, out of the three players you mention, the 1600 is definitely the best. The 1805 is basically a changer version of the 900, which is not known for its great video quality. The 1600 on the other hand is currently one of the top rated players on the Secrets of Home Theater Shoot-Out. It is...
maolen,
The 7300 should definitely not go into protect mode at -5db or less. Your dealer telling you that this is normal is incorrect.
As you may remember, I also have a 7300. I got mine a little before you did. My front speakers (left, right and center) are all large Definitive...
Keith, are you familiar with the Yamaha changers - either the old DVD C920 or the new DVD C940? On paper they look very good - DCDi by Faroudja, no chroma bug, Burr Brown DACs, DVD-A on the 920 or SACD on the 940. Your thoughts as always would be appreciated. Peter
Alex, The Def Tech 2006s have a powered subwoofer with a built in 250 watt amp in each speaker, so I think you will be fine. If you have one of Def Tech's powered centers, like the 2300 C/L/R (150 watt built in amp), you will be even better. I run a similar setup with a receiver rated at...
David, I realize that you are in Georgia, but here in New York $899 is too high for the 7300. You can get it from an authorized dealer for $799 (less if you buy other equipment at the same time). I would say that $599 for the 6200 is also too high, since another dealer here was selling out...
John, the whine is most apparent when using a DSP mode that "creates" the center channel (e.g., DPL II, DTS Neo, CSII) with stereo source material. As Rick states, the speakers make a big difference too. When I demoed the 7300 in a store with "small" speakers, I didn't notice the whine...
Cary, I completely agree with you. Every time I try to convince myself I can live with the noise, a quiet passage comes up in a DVD or CD, and I want to get rid of the receiver. The three alternatives I am considering are: 1. Rotel 1055 - As you said, great customer service and FREE...
I auditioned a SR7300 OSE two days ago, and yes, it unfortunately suffers from the same high frequency noise problem as the original SR7300. If the noise doesn't bother you, I would save the extra $300.
George, I run the 2006TLs and the 2300 C/L/R large. There is no low pass frequency setting on the Def Techs, just an adjustment for the subwoofer level. Even if the SR7300 allowed a lower low pass frequency, I would still recommend letting the crossover in the speakers do the work, vs...
I've been running an SR7300 with 2006TL fronts, a 2003 C/L/R center, and BP2X surrounds, and it sounds good on both music and HT. Just make sure that whatever receiver you buy can handle a 4 ohm load, as some (like the Pioneer Elites) are reported to go into protect mode.
On the other hand... page 4 of the second thread that Rick refers to contains a post from Mike Up that has links to six posts regarding problems with the HK. I was considering the same two models that you are. I wound up with the Marantz because I was nervous about the build quality of the...
My observations are also consistent with Rick CH's, but with one key difference. I find that the volume of the high frequency tone does increase with increasing volume (i.e., it is barely noticeable until about -20db, but becomes much more noticeable, especially when approaching 0db.
John, I think the reason you did not hear the high pitched hiss/whine when you auditioned the 7300 is that it was in Source Direct. This is the only mode in which the noise does not occur. Also, it only noticeable at high volume levels during quiet passages or between tracks. Marantz...
Daneel, Thanks for the quick reply. I also looked at the 45TX, but got scared away by the posts about it shutting down with low impedance speakers (my Def Tech speakers get down to 4 ohms).
Daneel, What did you replace the SR7300 you returned with? I am having the same problem with mine, and although I am happy with it otherwise, if I cannot get a replacement unit that doesn't have the problem, I will be shopping for a different brand.
