    Pioneer DV-578A

As long as one is staying in the mid 100s for a do everything player, I don't think you can do better than the improved 563A or the new 578A as far as I can see. Pioneer still has the market cornered in my opinion. I got a 563A to replace a broken Panny which could only do DVD-A at the time. It...

Help, can't get any DD or DTS from pio DV-563A

Had the same problem for the first time on Sunday. I really wanted to watch a movie, and since it was not a typical 'destruction' or sci fi movie, I listened to it in 6 ch analog which actually was not bad. First I swapped the coax output for the optical output. But I could see the actual red...

Any good deals on Satellite Radio (XM or Sirius) gear?

I think there will always be hardware changes, but there is no reason to alienate half the customer base by making previous equipment obsolete. Any receiver made for XM will always work on XM. I recently exchanged an older Dish receiver for a PVR. I still have a Dish receiver in another room...

Any good deals on Satellite Radio (XM or Sirius) gear?

Let's see.. you pay about $5 a month for each receiver rental of cable/SAT equipment out of the some $40-70 a month for a subscription. With XM you pay $120 one time for a good receiver, plus...no monthly rentals, and a subscripton of $10/mo. Sounds like a wash to me.

Local Radios take an FCC Stab at Sirius/XM

If more radio stations do the same, that says a lot about competition. For now Sat radio is hard to beat. But this is probably a good reason to pay for it month to month and not get looped into a contract.

Any good deals on Satellite Radio (XM or Sirius) gear?

If you go in the Circuit City website, they have the XM Commander for $135 after you put it in the cart to see the price. Amazon and other less known websites may have similar pricing. Great deal, it is a complete system. Although for best audio you will likely want to forgo the FM modulator...

Question for Dishnetwork DVR 510 Owners

Of course the highest level of video output from the 510 is S-Video. I find the 510 a nice enhancement to everyday TV viewing. I have not entered the HDTV arena as of yet, and rely on DVDs for the best picture in 16:9 movie viewing with components.

Do you use your Reciever for video switching?

Using my pre/pro to switch S-Video when I watch Dish programming overcame a common Sony Wega complaint, a faint scrolling vertical bar when watching DVDs through components with S-Video connected. When switching to DVD output the S-Video is disconnected, voila! No noise coupling. The DVD...

    Power Back UPS....

I was curious if anyone was using a battery powered UPS with their PVR/Sat.receiver? I just ordered a DVR from Dish, and plan to use a small (350 V/A)UPS. I understand there is a remote possiblity that programming data could be lost if power is removed while the HD Is writing to the disk...

    How to Use SPL Meter

I heard RS discontinued the analog sound level meters. Seems you are fortunate to get one. However, Sears now sells one for about the same price. Under the Craftsman label. Same basic unit, but somewhat less professional looking.

    SVS on TechTV

My HT is on a slab floor (and a carpet). But at one time was on a wood floor. I use the same method of 'isolation' or 'enhancement'. I have an additional patch of carpet laid down first, on top of the existing carpet, if it exists. Then the sub is placed on top of a square cement block (such...

Help!! Image on Sony (KV27S42) Is Slanted to the Left

Some Wega models have a tilt adjustment in the normal menu. Check for that. If not, or if the tilt is too great, there is probably a more major tilt adustment in the service menu, but more than likely a technician is going to have to go inside the set and re-position the yoke coil around the...

Besides Outlaw, is there an American made reciever

B&K and similar products are designed and built in the US. But remember, not all their internal components are necessarily manufactured here. As far as vehicles being built in the US by foreign companies, I am sure there are some trade-offs which does not necessarily mean they can not put...

My friend insulted my Home Theater

Well, he is probably a 'friend' for reasons other than his knowledge of home theater, and appreciation of good sound. But if his beer tastes run along the lines of 'whatever is available' I would probably not waste the 'hi-test' brew on him.

DirecTV vs Dish Network & Tivo questions

Yes, each room has its own set of channels, as if it was the only receiver. Just remember, when you order PPV, you only get it through the receiver you ordered it.

DirecTV vs Dish Network & Tivo questions

"Dish Network is a low end dish system. Even though it has the same type of stuff DirecTV has." What exactly are you referring to with this statement? What makes Dish a "low end system"? Mark Exactly! Read this and tell me what makes either system 'low end'...

First Surge Protector Purchase -- Have Questions

Look at the www.panamax.com line too. Good performance for a fair price. I like power being removed in the instance of large (and relatively slow) power fluctuations not just transient protection.

Radio Shack analog SPL meter being discontinued

I purchased the Craftsman for a friend and it works just fine. While not quite as aesthetically pleasing as the ol' RS analog, it now sports a fully integrated board (SMT) but all functions are the same. $40 is still great deal for ease of calibrating your audio.

Where can I get the price best from an authorized online dealer for a Denon DVD-2200?

http://www.unclestereo.com/cden.htm $495 here......I don't know if you do this, but I just put the brand and model number in Google and hit search.

    50ft cable for subwoofer cable-help

Yes, no sonic difference between any quality cable. However, I like the sub cable Monster provides because it is of a small profile, very flexible, and a neutral color. All those attributes are important to me, especially for long runs. Actually, it's the only Monster cable I use. :)

    Home Theater Chairs

I am quite happy with my Godfather seats from www.4seating.com But they are made to order, so it takes a while to get them. I don't think they are a big bargain now, especially since LazyBoy has come out with a new line (that includes cupholders) and their prices seem much more reasonable...

Down firing vs. Front firing subwoofers

Designer's choice. I have never seen any numbers to say one is superior than another. They are both means to an end. I think whether a down-firing sub is sitting on a slab floor vs. wood may make some diffference on how the bass is coupled to the room. Assuming the sub is properly evaluated...

    Anyone heard of "Loyu" speakers?

You can buy name-brand 'mediocre' speakers, why throw money away on unknowns? Unless speakers can be fully auditioned before buying, they are worse than mediocre to me, they are useless. So give them a listen, you may like them. But it's better to listen when you can do an A-B comparison with...

I don't have Def Techs but have heard a couple of different systems and they are definitely worth auditioning while you make choices.

    Panasonic CP-72: HO2 error

My Panny '72 just failed 2 weeks ago. At the time I thought it would be a waste to get an extended warranty but did anyway for about $24. Adds one more year. My Panny went out at 13 mos. I did not get the HO2 error but the display would read NOPLAY...yeah, NO S#IT! It would play for a few...

    Need a good DVD Player

If you want to stay under $250-300 go further under and get the Pioneer DV-563A progressive player. It will do everything you need plus give you DVD-Audio and SACD capability. You can pick them for just under $200. Sure, there are some better players out there, but you will need to pay a lot...

    Questions RE: New Toshiba 46H83

Sounds like you are on the right track. You definitely want to get a good set of cables for your component inputs, and should be able to do that within the $70 price-point mentioned. Monsters, AR Home Theater cables, etc. I use Bettercables 'cheaper' Serpents but not sure how much better for...

Do you plug your precious subwoofer straight into the wall outlet?

I would certainly think underground wiring has greatly limited the danger to lightning. I don't know if I would totally rule it out in areas known for severe storms. Lightning arrestors are normally installed on outdoor antennas, etc. These also reduce noisy reception to various radio/TV...
