Checked out an episode last night (downloaded via 360)... was very impressed with extra detail and the new effects shots were awesome.

I was going to ask the same thing. My guess is 'yes', but I would like it confirmed.

Watched this last night and had to pick my jaw up from the floor. Absolutely perfect imo. This is what I expect from HD. I'd like all the peeps that think Pearl Harbor looks good to see this. :-)

To all of you who think this title actually looks good, I have a question: - what size screen are you watching it on? I was very bummed at how this looked personally. Way too much noise, detail only average at best.

I actually think it's one of the stronger Blu-ray titles. I love the look of this film. It's got a gritty look, but the grain doesn't interfere with detail - in contrast to Pearl Harbor where excessive grain mars detail.

Yup, 1080i for sure, but I can say that it *looked* like I had the output set to 720p and the Toshiba was doing the crappy scaling thing. All I have to do is switch to any other disc and there is detail galore.

I find it surprising that someone could be visibly impressed with the HD-DVD of Van Helsing. Out of the 7 or 8 titles that I've checked out so far, this is the worst. There is virtually no difference that I can see between this and the SD version. So many scenes look soft and out of focus and...

I normally visit DVDFile every day... and while it was often in vain throughout the last quarter of 2004, it seems to be fairly regular again - at least in terms of reviews, which is the real attraction for me. If DVDFile ever had "news", it was lost on me - I never noticed them on their site...

I prefer DVDFile reviews over any other - mostly because I care about the quality of video transfer and how it comes across on a large screen. Their attention to detail is pretty good. That being said, I love David Boulet's reviews (here on this site) for the same reason. In my own DVD...

Hey David - DVDFile has backed up your PQ assessment. Haven't seen the transfer myself yet, but based on other reviews, I'm sure you're spot on and I'm going to be hugely disapointed. I'd like to boycott the DVD for this bad transfer, but I love the movie too much. Sigh...

Thanks for the heads up on the EE, David. I have a large front projection screen and I often see objectionable EE even when most reviewers don't. I think someone else hit the nail on the head when they suggested that small monitors must be used during the transfer. I just read another review...

I disagree. I don't care about an explicit list of changes. I'd rather hear about the sum of all the changes - the impact on the viewing experience as a whole - how much it felt different etc. I also care about how the transfer compares etc. So, I don't think such reviews are a waste -...

I already have mine and can confirm that the transfer is outstanding. I'm extrememly picky and have zero complaints with this transfer.

The movie probably had to be split BECAUSE of the forced trailers... :-)
