I have been using Avia on a 57hx93 and these are the numbers I came out with, it still doesn't look that great and am wondering if anyone maybe could help me out: Contrast: 46 Brightness: 59 Color: 65 Tint: -12 Sharpness: 54 I thought the sharpness wouldn't be so high. Also, I've...
I found the below already anything else I may want to know or that you would change from this. Thanks. Before you even plug in the tv, inspect it VERY carefully for damage. It's not essential, but you may wish to remove the rear lower panel and check for loose cables. Also look inside to see...
My brother just ordered a 57hx93. He has cable, they are coming out on the 23rd to switch his box to the HD cable box. I noticed the HX93 has a built in tuner, for him that's a waste since he's getting HD cable right? Also I was talking to his wifea and she said they got the impression that...
Chris, I got your pics. From what I can tell you have a beautiful home and some beautiful rockets. I believe we have the same area rug. Now I can see exactly how you built the wire and how mine might look, and they look great. I am interested in seeing a close-up of the flex. I'm trying to...
Dan,
Thanks for checking that out. I figured that the drivers,(AV-1+s), would show through some. Sounds like I need to give it a shot though. I'm not too picky, dim grey circles will suit me just fine. Hopefully I'll be putting up pic's so you can see them finished within the next month...
I found someone using 1/2inch flex and 12mm heatshrink to finish the flex ends. Now I just need to find out what size of heatshrink to put around the twisted ends.
Very cool, thanks Dan. How could I have not gone straight to our friends? I might just go with white since the enclosure will be natural maple. I'm having trouble keeping my mind on other things, DIY is taking over my brain. I may need professional help.
Thanks Brian. I showed my dad the kit you suggested and he is stoked. We're going to to build a pair together. If they turn out satisfactory then it's on to 5 or 6 AV-1+s in quilted maple. More people need to try this DIY route. I'm on a serious search for grill material that isn't black. I'd...
Thanks for the response Chris. Markertek has their awgs screwed up on the site, 4s11 is listed as 14 awg. I'm going to attempt something similar to what you did because the ends of my cables will be out where people can see them and I'll probably have them for a long time. I'm going to...
I'm about to buy some 4s11 for .69/ft. I found a previous thread that discussed using RS compresion bananas to terminate. I just want to make sure this is a decent option before I pull the trigger. Also, how do I strip this, I was going to use the old trusty method...brute force and...
Thanks for the suggestion Brian. Sounds it's worth the little extra cash to get the larger kit. The website says that the K05B50 is out of stock right now so I'll have to check that out. The plans have the indented top and bottom. I can just flush those edges and veneer all six sides right? If...
I've never heard Totem's Dreamcatchers, but read they are great, and sound like the neutral 5.1 in maple I've been looking for. But since my father,(a 50-something contractor), has every tool in the book and I'm a bit of a handyman/artist I am going to give the intimidating world of DIY a shot...
I'm thinking of dressing my own wires and was wondering if Techflex flexo pet and mylar would decrease performance? If so, what techflex should I use? Also wirecare.com is the only place I found that sells it. Are there any others? Much appreciated.
Camp, A real asshole would keep the truth that this isn't going to be to himself. But as I've said, he already owns a very successful car audio business and doesn't need a chump like me telling him about that aspect. I completely agree with what you said about unique brands as does he, and...
Thanks for your thoughts. My friend certainly has a bigger pair than I for trying this. I really hope it works out for him. If you think I'm mistaken on any of the below please point out. Here are some brands I think I'll suggest: Rotel, Adcom, JBL, Polk, Definitive Technology, Parasound...
Time to use your expertise to help improve many peoples lives! I live in a city of 93,000 people and we have had only two real AV retailers for many years. The two retailers carry many of the same products, and the nearest third retailer is 1 1/2 hrs away. Needless to say this whole area has...
After taking in all of the advice I have been searching for it appears that my best course of action is to find some speakers that I really like and purchase them first, (KEF Q series in the lead w/Acoustic Energy tailing.) Once I have done that, and the funds appear then I can get a rec. or...
Upon further and predictable review, I have decided to up my speaker budget to around $2K. This will mean some delay but I plan on keeping them for a very long time. I realley like KEFs, Acoustic Energy, and B&W from the appearence perspective and online reviews are very positive. I'm trying to...
Well, I'm truly leaning towards going w/a used amp from a dealer. I can't find anyone who will argue that that isn't a great way to go for amps. Now I have to just find one.
I was hoping to stick around around $1500 for speakers. If less than four stands are needed, than $150/pair of stands goes into speaker budget. The reason for my higher pre/pro/amps budget is my desire for a 5ch amp, (this budget was originally $1K w/only rec.s in mind.) I am hoping to have...
I have @$2K for a 5.1 sound setup for 60%HT-40%music, not really interested in other channels. It seems that whether I go pre/pro or receiver, a good 5ch amp addition is the way to go. That will eat much of the $2K, if I do go with an amp. I would like stay away from used unless someone...
The sony hs-10 does have DVI compatability according to this link:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/show...20&pagenumber=2
I am seriously considering a HTPC for either a PJ or RP. The only thing holding me back from a PJ is if I watch a lot of HDTV then the projector's bulb will need replacing...
Looks like it does 720p...

Can a laptop or desktop dvd player out perform my Toshiba sd-6200 progressive scan DVD player with a projector like the new Sony Hs-10 that has no scaler? I'm guessing that if I have this right then it has something to do with the signal being processed, or not processed, in a way that produces...
