Win a Denon X5200W 9.2 channel Dolby Atmos AVR with a copy of Insurgent on Blu-ray!

My folks had a pretty nice setup with a Denin receiver (my favorite too!). Recently their house was struck by lightning and burned down. Unfortunately home theater can't be a priority in the rebuild but I'd love for them to have a great new keystone for the living room setup in the next place!

    dialog problem

Thanks for the guess. By older disks I mean older movies, regardless of release date.. Or B-movies. Or anything which wouldn't have a new sound mix. For instance, The Simpsons sounds great. N

    dialog problem

The disks work fine through my Denon 2700 (they are usually my disks). In fact it was problems on some really pristine (audio) transfers that really got my attention. N

    dialog problem

My friend has a Denon 3200. For a long time, anyhow, I always noticed that his system was weaker on dialogue from non-pristine sources (ie and older movie). So at my urging he eventually went for a new center speaker (a paradigm). This new center speaker is outstanding, from what I've heard...

    Decalogue question

Could someone list out or point me to a complete list of all the cameos in "The Decalogue?" I mean the fleeting glimpses of characters in an episode from other ones. I have only been able to recognize a couple!

DVD's Have they Lost their Luster?

As for extras, I love the ones on certain films. Just a few, though. I think over time I have found that watching extras on most films is a waste of time. I just forget everything fairly quickly and that's that. But it took a while to realize that! As for collecting, I think early on I...

    David Lynch First Timer

I'm surprised by all the hits "Lost Highway" is getting. That was my favorite until "Mulholland Drive" came along. Right behind them is "Wild at Heart." I think these three are at the heart of what Lynch is, for me. So intense, jagged, emotional. One of the great things film can do is become...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (Recommended)

My copy is a *white* keepcase, and of course no insert as I said above. As I opened the package I was a bit taken aback by the cheap feel... I am happy to have an anamorphic print of this - never would have considered getting the first version. N

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (Recommended)

I just received my copy of the new SE of Star Trek VI and found that it has no instert. Is this a fluke or do they not have one? My Stark Trek II: SE did... N

Studio Classics: The Best Picture Collection

The best price on this collection is DVDSoon - at about $30. Frankly, it's this low price that even interests me in the set. They are undeniably great films, but not ones I was looking to buy. But I won't be buying if they are sending out the wrong disc. N

What single game made you buy a system?

XBOX - Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance SNES - Super Punchout (Plus Madden and NHL) Why have we never seen another game like Mike T's & Super Punchout? I hate button mashing boxing, but I loved those two games.

Burn-in here one minute, gone the next???

I really don't think it was a reflection - I saw the image inside the top reflective screen. I guess now, in retrospect, I can't say for sure that I ruled that out by standing in front of it at different angles, but I was pretty convinced that it was on the screen itself at the time. I even put...

Burn-in here one minute, gone the next???

I had a *very* strange incident. First of all, I have a Pioneer SD-582HD5 TV with the contrast cranked way done (2-3 notches above the lowest possible setting) - also I do not watch with still images on screen much at all, etc... Recently I bought a new JVC SV-FA900 DVD player. I was watching...

    Panasonic RP82 vs. JVC SA600BK

I need a new DVD player. I was thinking long and hard about waiting for the right universal player. But after reading enough, I decided on the JVC. The deal-breaker for me was the scaling ability b/c my TV locks on full mode w/progressive. I may not be getting SACD right now, but it looks a...

    Panny CP72K vs. JVC XV-FA900BK

Don - did "secrets" do the JVC's? I don't see them on the list for the latest shootout. I get the impression that you have based on some of your comments, but maybe you are only speaking of anecdotal evidence... N

    players that pillarbox/scale?

I was just wondering which players out there have that feature where the player can send a 4:3 source "pillarboxed" for "full" mode. I have a TV which locks into full on progressive sources, and so as I look around for a new DVD player, I just want to know what my options are re: this...

    Using TV as center channel?

I noticed on at least some of the latest Toshiba RPTV's that they have a feature where you can hook up your TV as a center channel. I was wondering if there is a way to set any TV up this way? I have a pretty good center speaker (AR4C) but I think my TV's speakers are better. Could I hook...

    B & W not deep enough

I haven't done those. Are they in the service menu? I was a little nervous going in there, and essentially only made the adjustments from: http://home.attbi.com/~jack.lew/sd582.htm Then I dropped my brightness by about 10 and it was good. N
