My Walmart now has some $4 (!) shelf displays which I was completely unable to ignore...YMMV.
I got 'Bridges of Madison County' SE (!) and 'We Own the Night' (2007). Not bad...
I also fished a 'Risky Business' SE out of the $5 bin. Nice!
Since you guys mentioned KoK is/was rented, maybe I should stop by local BB/HV to see if they have a used rental copy for sale. Might be $10 or less, especially for oddball titles... EDIT: Went to my local HV and found a used copy of KoK for $4! Yea, Baby!!!
Yes, they offered to special order it but it would be full retail price + an order fee. FYE/Coconuts are THE movie speciality store in the Midwest, but they've spoiled me by continuously putting '40% off any used' in local papers and even new items in-store are often 'red-tag sale'...
Nice to see 'older' movies/DVDs getting redone, I'd rather buy a remaster DVD of a good movie like WarGames or Gattaca then the crap that Hollywood is putting out in recent years...Bravo!
I did get U's Western Icon set from a few years back, but I'm not so sure about this one. I love Eastwood, but having been in so many movies some are bound to be duds. That and I haven't even found time to watch the remaster Dirty Harry boxset yet.
Wow...I have a huge movie collection and 'Shadow of the Vampire' (2000) is one of those movies I wish I could watch every night. I love the way it changes seamlessly in and out of B&W and faster camera speeds, and then there's Malkovich screaming "Die! Die! Let the centuries consume you!!!"...
I've only turned off a couple of real stinkers that I couldn't stand for another second, like 'Down in the Valley'. Then there's others like 'I'm Not There' that test my patience while I struggle to finish. Even junk like 'Wanted', I'll try to finish and then watch the extras to see what...
Every now and again, I'll encounter (and buy) an old SuperBit DVD for $5 or so. In doing so, I'm essentially creating a 'two-disc' set with the normal version for menus & extras and then the SB for higher bitrate PQ & DTS. I won't be buying BD, so for me this is as good as it gets for Sony...
Set your expections lower for the 1st season, PQ is very suspect. It's 16x9 enhanced, but there's a ton of shimmer. Second season gets a bit better in terms of PQ, but others who are holding off for a remastered HD set may be rewarded...
Isn't it interesting that Warner bombs like 'Death to Smoochy' and 'Catwoman' get reference quality transfers while the TDK gets poor PQ/SQ/extras? Clearly we're being pushed to BLU, but I'm really not too surprised. Warner killed HD DVD and now they're digging DVD's grave.
DVD fans have surely seen the highs and lows with regards to extras. Remember when loaded 2-disc releases like 'The Aviator' were the only version and on-sale day one? Then studios started holding back extras for higher-priced, non-sale products like the 2-disc 'Master and Commander'...
Despite being a BIG movie fan, I own none of the versions of "I Am Legend". This is directly due to the extras situation being totally messed up in this case. The two-disc release wastes the entire 2nd disc on a version with an alternate ending, that's completely goofy. As a result, the...
Now that there's a Remaster TOS Boxset (all three seasons), could anyone comment on whether the first season is still a HD-DVD/DVD Combo? Since the 1st season used 'flipper' discs, they could have reprinted a cheaper run without HD-DVD for the new boxset. Just curious...
I've had the exact same problem with my copy of Boogie Nights (1-disc). Like many of you, I have a large collection. Wonder how may other good discs have turned to coasters...?
U lost an easy sale here from me... I have the HD version of Waterworld, but would have bought this DVD as well if the extra 40 minutes had been viewable separately as a deleted scene archive. I like the new packaging, but sadly I'm NOT sitting through 3 hours of shoddy PQ just to see what...
I sold my old NBC for ~$12 at FYE recently, more money than usual due to it being 'out of print'. Alot of other people did the same, FYE are now awash in $29 used copies of the old NBC disc. FYE also had the best price for the new 2-disc: $18.99, so I bought the new one there too. All's...
Just bit on a used 2-disc version for $10.80, couldn't pass it up at that price. Love the fancy DVD slipcover! Hope the DVD PQ fars better than Naria, which looked super fuzzy and over-compressed due to a long runtime + DTS.
Interesting...this is a re-issue of the old DVD with the commentary. The newest disc has better video and extras, but no commentary. I saw the whole 80's line at Target, I feel sorry for anyone who buys these. The ugly slipcover art is also carried over to the DVD cover.
