Pertaining to SACD/hybrid placement, I think it would be nice for the format for hybrids to be amongst the regular CDs, at least for big releases. On the other hand, if the respective store only receives, say, 2 copies of one hybrid title, then they might as well keep it in the SACD section b/c...
Larry, David Tickle did the MCH mix for the entire DTS CD and for the first 12 tracks of the SACD (track listings are slightly different). However, the mixes are different in my opinion. On the DTS CD, the rears are more pronounced and the center vocal is weaker than the SACD version. I've...
Greg, The new SACD MCH is quite better than the DTS CD. It has more natural mix while the DTS CD is quite gimmicky in comparison. I've loved having the DTS CD--until now. I was really amazed by the stereo version on the SACD as well. It's a great disc and well worth picking up.
If I buy a remastered version, I sell the old one. Unless the upgrade is to a non-hybrid SACD or to DVD-A, in which case you have to keep the old CDs. The Who's Ultimate Collection is amazing and easily stomps the older "Who's Better, Who's Best" hits disc. But I can't sell the old one b/c the...
Speaking of the new Police SACD-The Classics, it's incredible! I am also in agreement on the Ryan Adams disc, it hasn't left my player either, nor has Beck's "Sea Change." Diana Krall's 2 discs are great too. Rachel, I think the other Ryan Adams disc (vinyl) you're talking about is...
To the initial point of this thread, may I say that the new Police-The Classics SACD is great, both in stereo and multichannel. The multichannel mix is much better than the mix on the DTS-CD. I do not own the redbook CD of The Classics, so I could not compare the regular CD layers. I own Every...
Just wondering if any of you out there has heard this new DVD-A. I was hoping to get some reviews on it; also, who has the best price for it? BB sells it for 22.99 and I was hoping to pay less. Thanks.
First off, I have neither a large nor widescreen display. I can, however, discern differences between the original and Superbit versions of the films released. Some seem to have a bigger difference than others. You can tell this especially between the 2 versions of "The Fifth Element" and "Bram...
I really enjoyed the DVD as I watched it last night. Great sound, and it definitely gets its job done in making me want the video collection due in December. I really enjoyed the live cut of "Please" even if it didn't have "Streets" following. I haven't listened to all of the CDs yet, so I can't...
I remember there was news that there would be SEs for at least the first 3, with "Batman" (1989) getting a 2-disc treatment, and they were supposed to be due 12/2001......of course this never happened and it's why I held off for a bit. I had previously purchased "Batman" and when the SEs didn't...
When LOTR came out a few months ago, I actually had a customer who asked for the fullscreen version. He proceeded to tell me that he had, in the past couple of months, purchased a 55" WS HDTV. He was furious because it was very rare when he could find "fullscreen" versions of the films he...
Good stuff guys, thanks. Dean, can you tell me which titles, pre-SPR, that had the full bitrate tracks? You've sparked my interest with that information, so now I have to hunt for these discs! Greg, I agree with what you've said. It is rather nice these days to find more DTS tracks available...
Brian L, Yes, definitely pick up "Empire" on DVD-A. Definitely one of the better discs of the format. You're right about the bass & drums, simply thunderous. Very impressive.
Thanks for the replys so far. Phu, I agree with you on the great musical score for Dragonheart, I really want to pick up the soundtrack. Again, please feel free to offer opinions on other discs, not just the ones I listed. I'd like to know of other DTS discs that are worth the upgrade. Take...
Readers, As we all know some of the DVDs released in the early days of the format had 2 versions. Universal is a good example of a studio who released Collector's Editions with usually nice extras, but also had a movie only DTS version as well. I've been thinking of getting a few of these DTS...
My experience is just the opposite from most others. On my system, when I play a DTS CD, I actually have to increase the subwoofer level to satisfy (for DTS-CDs, I do not use the multi-ch analog outs, I prefer to let the receiver decode the info via the fiber optic link--I've even tried the...
Paul, I read both threads you have links too. Still, I could have sworn the first disc WAS anamorphic. I'll have to give it a check, maybe I'm dreaming. I'll post what I discover later. Either way, it definitely deserves an SE. Should have gotten the Criterion laser back in the day....
First, Neil Young's "Harvest" does have a Dolby Stereo track if played in a DVD-V player. I too was highly disappointed in the DVD-A multichannel mix. I had to check and see if my cables were properly connected (even though I knew they were), because everything is in the rears. You have to...
Allen,
I agree with Keith. You can't go wrong with the "Hot Rocks" SACD. I have it and others of the recently released SACDs. I have the old, non-SACD version of "The Singles Collection" but I don't think I would get it on SACD, but that's just my personal preference. "Singles" contains mono...
It's a shame really, I thought the first wave that was only open on one side with the title on the spine of the case was very nice. First wave-(Air Force One, Crouching THD, JMnemonic, Desperado, & Fifth Element). When I went to get Dracula, it was not in the slip case, but I've since seen it...
Keith, Honestly, every SACD that the local Best Buy here sells is replaced. Every single one. Could just be a lucky store. Whatever amount sells of a title, whether it's one, two, etc.., that exact amount comes back in to replace it. In the past couple of months, more and more titles from...
First off, I'm a bit angered it doesn't match the Snow White casing. Second, the cardboard looks lovely but is very easily damaged. I had to look through about 10 or so to find one where the cardboard wasn't bent or otherwise damaged. Third, and this is the worst, the keepcase was ALL messed up...
I guess all places are different, but I have had no problem whatsoever finding DVD-As or SACDs here in Greensboro, NC. Of course the only store to have a good selection is Best Buy, and they always have the new releases, mostly on release dates. If they don't have them on release dates, they at...
Even if you do own plenty of Stones material, I would still say this is a worthwhile purchase. How can you resist all those goodies on one set? I can't at least, and I've got plenty of ABKCO's recent SACDs. Even though "40 Licks" isn't SACD, it's nice to have the tracks from the Virgin catalog...
