Thanks for the input guys. I think I may be a little dense as the advice is not quite clicking. I think the parallel might be the way i was thinking about doing it. My thoughts were utilizing the pre-outs on my receiver for surrounds. Running those outs to my L/R input on the amp. Then...
Hopefully, I'll ask this in a way that is clear and I'm asking in the right area. I used to run a 7.1 setup but have recently moved and I'm starting to set up my new room. It is 10 x 19 and I'm looking to have two rows/sections of seats. I can't run a 7/6.1 set up due the back of the room...
Just wondering if anyone owns/has owned one of these and what their thoughts were. I saw old reviews that seemed a little negative from a consumer standpoint as far as QC--performance/sound were totally different though. Any insights?
Thanks for all the responses--for both and myself. Paul brought up one point I was wondering as well--I believe the SVS handles a maximum of 350 watts at 4 ohms--is that correct? (if anyone knows). With that, I like some of these suggestions and will check them out. I don't think you're going...
Hi everyone! It's been awhile since I posted and in that timeframe I've forgotten what I originally wanted to do! Anyway, I have an SVS 16-38 that I bought from a fellow HTF'er. I wanted to buy an amp as well but had some other things come up and I never purchased an amp for the sub. I...
I've recently got in to the HT projection arena and love it. I have an NEC MT830 LCD projector. My question: What can I do to generate a better picture. I don't have a progressive scan DVD player. Would that be the way to go or will that do anything? Would a scaler like DVDO do anything. As you...
Don't know about problems with a Grand Cherokee. I have a 97 with 121,000 miles on it--I've replaced the brakes, battery, tires and changed the oil--no problems at all and I am hell on cars. I have the Orvis edition which you don't see to often--a little break from seeing them all over the...
Like Rob said, I'm kind of shying away from multi-channel amps--unless space is a concern and/or if money is a concern. 400 bucks for a 2 channel amp should get you quite a bit. I still look at your room size and think any amp will be a step up. I run Adcom amps on my Studio series--I like them...
You may want to to listen to the JBL's before suggesting a move past "low fi"--especially the studio series and especially before suggesting the PSB's and Paradigm's as a more sophisticated jump. And even moreso when pairing them with any seperate amplification. The nicest thing about JBL's...
That's a good idea. I was just trying to think of a way to block out the screen. I'm going to frame it with wood painted black then try and come up with an idea on what to put up for letterbox or screen bars--any hints?
I am putting this in the other section that I use a lot (first is in speakers). If that's wrong, I apologize--just want to make sure I hit everyone since so many people have been helpful. If one needs to be locked--I guess I understand. Well, I'm pretty well set on what I have right now...
There is a fun way to really help your score. After you hit a shot that doesn't go where you want, feel free to right click and go back--now you can tame this game--no more talk of 60's--leave that to your real golf game on the first 9 holes.
I see where you could leave your amps on all the time but for those of us that aren't quite as advanced in knowledge or equipment have a question. What about that surge from the receiver to the amp immediately after turning the receiver on. I usually wait a second then turn on all the amps. I...
Just take her on an I35 cruise. Start in Dallas, head north to Denton. Grab I-35W south to Waco--really fun town (love those Baptists). Then grab I35E north and come back to Dallas. If you and her are lucky, hit an Alsups and get a fried burrito--yum. Stockyards--oh the memories--P.R.'s, White...
Thanks for the help. So I could run the sub out of the receiver to the amp and use regular speaker from the amp to the sub and get pretty good results?
I recently bought an SVS 20-39 from a HTF member--love those classifieds. Anyway, it has to be amped externally. I really don't won't to spend the money right now to buy another amp--the STBSOWOAR (soon to be significant other waiting on a ring--how about that for a new acronym) rolls the eyes...
You can find a lot to do. Deep Ellum and Lower Greenville are both fun--especially when you're not from here. Green Room and the Bone are both packed and they have balconies. Thin room is, well, thin. Usually packed a little bit later at night with a good crowd. I like Lower Greenville a little...
If it's any help--I have a similar setup (s38' mains, 4 s36, scenter and PB12). The PB12 is not that great. For something that big, powerful and expensive it seems weak. I am trying right now to get an SVS as well because of all I heard here. Think you would be much happier as well. The JBL...
What a coincidence! Last night, my PB12 did something similar. It is doing a machine gun like sound. I think I messed something up when I added some polyfill. Anyway, it does this popping when there is no signal from a receiver. I can hold the woofer down and it stops but if i move it a little...
Quite a bit. I don't use any settings other than normal when running the amps. Just hook the amp up to the pre outs and your set. This way you only use the input signals that are on the receiver. The output goes directly to your amps.
A couple of things. I think you'll be extremely happy with the 811/Elite choice. The 2 channel is not a concern if you go to a seperate amp. I have an Adcom running my mains to expand the stage. I have since gone back to the Pioneer's internal amps as I'm shopping for another 2 channel amp with...
Just a thought here. I think your best choice is the Pioneer. Although it's not the 100 watts per channel it says with all channels, it is very consistent at about 68-74--the Pan and H/K drop off slightly on output but power per channel is only good if it still sounds good. For straight out of...
Pretty fun information on this thread. Thought I'd throw a quick survey out for people. Say I have a million bucks and I'm looking for something to do. Would you rather: a) Go check out the million dollar system for awhile for ideas (dogdigital, koss, KLH maybe) and leave or b) Head...
I'm contemplating a move and I would like to have my living back to being a living room. I currently run a 7.1 system with a 53 inch tv. It looks like I may have an extra room now. The dimension are 10 x 11. Is that going to be way to small for that type of set up?
I have a very similar set up on speakers and was faced with the same receiver decision. I decided to go with a less expensive receiver with consistent power (Pioneer 811s) with all the processing capability and use seperate amps. You should easily be able to get the 811 with a nice 2 channel amp...
