Where is everyone? I haven't logged in for a while. Anyone know how to get ahold of Jay Humphrey? I'm told he has my MAME DVDs and possibly my router bit. Anyways, if y'all moved and didn't tell me, someone send me the secret location :) -Dave

Hey Austin Texas Buddies? Can anyone help me out?

Nils, My trigger finger hovered precariously over the mouse button for a few minutes when I saw that pre/pro. But I decided the only reason to upgrade would be for HDMI or DVI switching, and if I were to go that route I might instead splurge for the new Denon 3806 or perhaps the Outlaw 990...

Jeff, Couldn't you just use the alternate mapping on the KeyWiz to create a "rotated" joystick? Just rotate each keymap 45 degrees. So that UP now equals the key stroke for UP-RIGHT and RIGHT now equals RIGHT-DOWN, etc. That would allow you to play qbert if you couldn't rotate your panel. Of...

Sorry guys.... been very busy and haven't even had time to check in here. I do have the 3" translucent blue trackball from dreamarcades. It is awesome. I don't think I'd want one any smaller as it seems to have the perfect authentic weighting and feel. Any smaller and its more like one of...

Hank, NEC has a business projector that has a really short throw and can do off axis. The technology has been out for a while, but I have not yet seen a HT specific one. Doesn't interest me. I prefer having my projector on the back wall as opposed to 3' in front of the screen. But I'll bet...

Jay, CAD drawing? HA! You give me way too much credit. I just pulled a Meininger and threw planning out the window and figured it out along the way. Fortunately I only had 1 minor "do-over" when I realized that a 1-1/8th hole is a fraction too big for the buttons. The control panel is 24"...

Jay, Here is the link to that monitor I told you about. $80 for a 21" Trinitron CRT. Not a bad deal at all for you MAMErs. http://www.surpluscomputers.com/stor...&item=MON10136 Also, for cheap Dell PCs, check these sites daily: www.gotapex.com www.techbargains.com You should be able...

Yeah, I used a Sony 19" trinitron CRT monitor. If you use a similar setup, plan on leaving the back open. A 19" CRT is too deep to fit in the depth of the standard Defender cabinet, plus it puts out some heat. You could tilt it downward and make it fit though. Also, I'd recommend getting some...

Jay/Chad - Jeff Meininger has my copies of the MAME DVDs and CDs at the moment, but he's going to dupe them and we can meet early next week for lunch or something so you guys can borrow them. He's building a "minimame" PC with a portable control panel to hook up to his TV/projector. Sounds...

Hey Austin Texas Buddies? Can anyone help me out?

Yeah, this is nuts. People in Austin are acting as if we live on the coast below sea level (like Nawlins) and we're going to be flooded and on our own for 5 days. Calm down people, the worst thing we might see is a few inches of rain and some gusty wind. That happens 10 times a year! Now it...

Nils / Hank, I highly recommend eloping. The wife and I decided to forgo the $25K wedding that all of our friends did and instead threw an awesome New Years Eve/Wedding party and flew off to Jamaica the next day to get married on the beach. So instead of paying $25K for a one day event we...

Chad -- Thats the right bit. Its only needed if you want to install T-molding on the edges. If you want to rout your own edges it wouldn't be necessary. You can borrow mine if you like, I can give it to the wife and you can pick it up at work. Just let me know. Same for the funky hole saw size...

Jay and Chad, If you look around you can find cabinet designs galore. My cabinet is almost an exact copy of the Defender Stargate design. They have CAD drawings for all of the major games online and I have a bunch on CD. It gives you every measurement you need and how to fit them on minimal...

Hey Nils, Hank, et al... Since the home theaters in the house are pretty much done, I had to move on to a new project. So I'll be hooking up a small LCD TV, DVD, and surround sound in my new "vacation home" .... http://attackthecorners.com/Donzi1.JPG...

Hey Austin Texas Buddies? Can anyone help me out?

Just make sure the USB keyboard emulators work with all the MAME games. With a PS2 emulator, there really is no difference between the controls and a the original keyboard (at least on a PC). I have heard that USB keyboards do not always work perfectly with PCs that have PS2 inputs as the...

    70's & 80's Retro Arcade Gallery

Thats my arcade cabinet in the message Nils posted. It was pretty easy. I'd say almost that any game you wanted is probably available. At last count over 6000 games were out there for MAME, including every commercial arcade game you can think of, every 2600, every NES, NeoGeo etc. Even...

Hey Austin Texas Buddies? Can anyone help me out?

Jonathan/Jay/Mark etc... You don't need USB for MAME at all (at least on a PC). All you need is a PS2 Kb and PS2 mouse port. 500mhz should be enough to run all MAME games. You don't need 3d graphics or anything either. Just a bare bones PC from 5yrs ago. I have over 4000 ROMs and they are...

Hey Austin Texas Buddies? Can anyone help me out?

For $300 you can get a Dell Dimension with a monitor, so don't spend more than that for a MAME PC. I bought a Dell Dimension 4700 for 449, got a free 19" LCD, sold the LCD $230 and bought a cheap 19" CRT for $50. Then I moved my old PC into the cabinet and I have a new 3.0Ghz PC for my media...

Hey Austin Texas Buddies? Can anyone help me out?

Ok here are a couple of pics. My camera batteries died mid shoot so this is all that made it. I still have to do some touch up painting, finish installing the molding, and mount the plexiglass over the monitor. But its functionally complete and so the motivation to finish it has waned in...

Hey Austin Texas Buddies? Can anyone help me out?

RE: LinkTheater I haven't bought one yet. I received a message from the DLink tech support about my DSM320 server, and he claims that a fix for my issues is being tested and that a firmware update is imminent. So I'll hold off for a few weeks. I REALLY like the idea of the DLink/Buffalo...

Hey Austin Texas Buddies? Can anyone help me out?

Nils and Jay, I'll post pics when I get home and can FTP to my site. Well, the MAME arcade is something I've been planning for a while. Its really quite easy. Basically, you need an old PC (~500mhz with 17 or 19" crt), a copy of the freeware MAME32 application, and game roms. You can find...

Nils: Yes, there are dial spinners available. You can either buy a commercial one for $25 or build your own from a radio shack knob for $5. Check out www.arcadecontrols.com. Also, I have all the cabinet plans and cabinet art for thousands of games, so if you really wanted to, you could easily...

Nils, Tiff is great. The man has mad oversteer skills. I would love to buy him a beer and talk cars. Wonder if he's into HT as well? ;-) I have all of the 5th Gears and Top Gears burned onto disc and watch them a lot. They are fantastic shows. Much better than the crappy US car shows...

Humphrey, Hmmm.... maybe I should be a little more obvious with the sarcasm. :) I was just rationalizing myself an excuse to dig it out and watch THE POOL SCENE again. ;) I was in high-school when that film came out. Spicoli was my hero. Well, and Ferris too. -Dave

Leave it to Nils to redecorate around here for the on-topically challenged ;-) Ok, well, I might be able to do it either on the 23rd or the 30th of July. I need to see when a friend of mine is having his birthday party, but whichever weekend is left open, I think would work. The house is...

Hank, I'd be up for hosting a Dive In theater night. Probably sometime in early/mid August. - Who all would be interested? - What saturday is best? - If I take down my projector in the HT to use outdoors, thats fine, but then I wouldn't be able to do any HT demos. Does anyone have a...
