Thinking of getting this recorder... anyone have it that would recommend it? or caution against it? My intentions with it are to burn high quality recordings of movies stored on my hidef tivo reciever, as well as medium quality recordings of tv programs (with the capability of editing-out...
Good point - PIP is not really a necessity with TiVo... I was really just curious if I could make it work. I suppose if I get an HiDef receiver at some point, I could feed it into another input and take advantage of it that way. (But that won't happen until DirecTV re-broadcasts local channels...
Yes, that makes sense - thanks for an excellent synopsis... I was thinking it might be possible to tranform an output from the receiver into an RF input on the TV, but I'm not sure how I would control each individual channel anyway. I suppose it's worth a try, but the outlook is not good!
Does anyone know a way to get my TV's (Sony 34XBR800) built-in PIP capability to work with a 2-tuner Hughes HDVR2 DirecTV/TiVo receiver? DirecTV technical support says no-go, but I can't imagine that it's not possible, considering the receiver is tuning 2 channels at any given time...

Thanks Chuck, I found a crack to toggle the OEM TiVo remote between skip-to-end, and 30-second skip. In case anyone is interested, press: SELECT | PLAY | SELECT | 3 | 0 | SELECT To switch back, just repeat the sequence. Worked like a charm for me... As for the H/K DVD50, I haven't been able...
Just got the Home Theater Master MX700 remote, and it is absolutely fantastic! (returned my Sony AVR-3000 after one-too-many lock-ups... ) My questions are: Does anyone have a discrete code for a 30-second advance for a Hughes HDVR2 DirecTV/TiVo hard-disk satellite reciever (similar to the...
True that the up-conversion is not a big deal since 1080i is best for DVD movies and most TV programs anyway. (correct me if I'm wrong b/c I'm still not clear here... for example, why are better DVD players Progressive Scan?) But what about for viewing a windows PC on the TV? From what I...
Found out some more detail on +'s/-'s of these two great sets... Basically, the Sony is superior when it comes to detail. You can clearly see finer details - particularly in the dark-to-black color areas - even with an analog signal on the Sony. On the flip side, the Panasonic has a very warm...
If anyone has any first-hand advise on the Sony 34XBR800 or the Panasonic 34WX52, I would greatly appreciate hearing it. I think I've narrowed it down to these two... but at this point, it's difficult to sift through the manufacturer BS and figure out which set will really be the better buy...
Yes, very helpful advise, Jim - thanks! Glad I didn't get carried-away and pull the trigger last night in the store... The Sony and Panasonic have been at the top of my list for a while - are there any others in the 34-38" range for about 2k that I should be considering?
The RCA 38310 38" 16:9 HDTV caught my attention because of the size and price ($1899 at Circuit City). It's actuually a bit cheaper than the other models I've been casing - the Panasonic 34WX52 and the Sony KV34XBR800. Surprisingly, in the store, the picture looked quite good as well - a little...
Anyone know the details on how to make this work? What type of out is typically utilized from the PC soundcard (in my case, a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop)? And is this only possible with certain types of TVs (digital only?... anything with an Composite, S-Video, or VGA in?) Any...
I just recently bought the Energy Veritas 2.4 for front mains, and I plan on buying the matching center... but I'm interested to hear some opinions on the surrounds since the options are more open here.
I'm running a Meridian 565 pre :emoji_thumbsup: , a B&K Reference 7250ii amp, and the...
My price point is a bit flexible, but I'd like to stay under $2000 for sure. Retail on the B&K is around $2500, but I've seen them around for $800 - $1000 less (new in the box) I've heard the Energy reps use B&Ks to demo their stuff, so it stands to reason that I might have a good match...
I've narrowed down my search for a 5-channel power amp to the following candidates: * B&K Reference 7250 (200wpc) * Rotel RMB 1095/1075 (200/120wpc) * ATI AT2505/1505 (250/150wpc) * Sunfire Grand Cinema II (250wpc) * Adcom GFA 7700/7500 (175/150wpc) I would greatly appreciate personal...
Phil, How is the sound quality using the pre-amp outs with a separate amp? I've heard that it's not worth the bother using an integrated receiver as a pre unless the pass through is in the 3-4 volt, full audio (20-20k) range with less than .1% distortion... but maybe this is just what...
I just auditioned a pair of 9NTs this weekend, and they sounded fantastic... pretty neutral too, IMO (granted they were powered by some *really* nice Classe 2-ch h/w)
Thanks for the welcome! If you don't mind my asking, how much did you pay for the Rotel 1075? I've seen it for about $1000, and the 1066 for about $1500... not sure if those are good prices. Regarding speakers, the 1-2k price range was for front/mains only... the plan is to add...
Trying to decide... here are the questions: 1) Will the Rotel separates sound significantly better (enough to justify the extra $1k or so)? 2) What speakers are recommended in the 1-2k range? I've been looking at B&W, Kef, Energy, etc... any impressions?
