    Weekly RoundUp 12/14/04

Hey Mike and Patrick, There really should be a disclaimer that pops up for anyone that posts to any round up thread that has a big "THANKS" in it. You guys do an awesome job week in and week out, and though I do no post each week, I wanted to say thanks for all of your efforts. You make my...

I just saw the most amazing commercial...

I believe it was a Tracy McGrady commercial. I particulary liked the "camaflauged" white line around the 3-point line.

Weekly RoundUp 9/21/04 Star Wars Trilogy (authorized sneak peek)

Just got back from the CompUSA in Fort Worth, TX. $39.99 plus tax = $43.29 out the door. Interesting note: They had none on display and when I asked the store manager, he replied, "That comes out today?" I told him be prepared to get swamped, and send your ID sales out the roof! Tommy

    FS: Mitsubishi 55411 55" TV & Kenwood HTB 504

Lowered the price of the TV to $1,250. Any takers? Or $1,400 for both. Someone has to want a 55" Mits....don't you?! Tommy

    FS: Mitsubishi 55411 55" TV & Kenwood HTB 504

Upgradeitis! I've been eyeing the 61" Samsung DLP for a while and I'm probably going to buy it in the next week or so. I have absolutely no quams with the Mits at all it's just that in the area I have in the family room, I can afford to go with a larger size tabletop model and put my equipment...

    FS: Mitsubishi 55411 55" TV & Kenwood HTB 504

I have for sale my 17 month old Mitsubishi 55" TV. Perfect working condition including remote and hardware. Dallas Fort Worth sale only (76137), too big to ship. Asking $1,250 o.b.o. Also I have a Kenwood HTB 504 that has been sitting in it's box for about 6 months. It does a good job in a...

For $1714.35 shipped is this a good deal?

Well, being an owner of the Alpha line with a Yamaha RX2400, I would say go for it. A couple of months ago I was deciding between them, KEFs and Def Techs. I auditioned them all in-house with the Yamaha and a Pioneer Elite 53tx. To be completely honest, the Infinity's and Yamaha were my...

If you had a choice, Def Tech, Infinity, KEF

Well after all was said and done, I went with the new Yamaha 2400 and the Infinity's. I spent numerous hours at Ultimate Electronics and with price being relatively equal for all three, I went with this setup because it sounded best to be. I had a hard time getting over the "name" because...

    confused about YPAO-yamaha rxv1400

I have the RX-V2400 also and yes you can connect it via s-video or composite. I'm using component but it still should work. Also, I didn't think you needed the OSD to run YPAO, just to see the results. I could be wrong because I did use the OSD. By the way, I love this receiver! Tommy

Good Polk or Infinity Center channel for less than 350

Infinity Alpha 37C. Yes I have it and yes it rocks. Of course I'm coming from an Htib so anything would sound better but I compared it to the $1400 KEF that was at Ultimate Electronis and it hung right there with it. Tommy

    Need possible satellite advice

Rick, I can't really comment on Tivo but if you are wanting to get HD I would shy away from the Best Buy package and go with one of the HD/DirecTV packages. You'll need to get one of these receivers to get HD anyway. You'll also need an over the air antenna to receive your local stations in...

Attaching a plate amp on sonosub ?

I did mine by cutting an extra endcap out of MDF. Then it was just a matter of sanding it down a little to make it flush. Once you screw it onto the tube it's pretty sturdy. I made sure I used glue when attaching it and after the glue dried, I went around every seam, inside and out with...

If you had a choice, Def Tech, Infinity, KEF

My initial appeal to the Def Techs was the "enveloping" sound. I have a pretty large area to cover and when I have movie night, I can tell a big difference when sitting off-axis. I didn't get the same feeling from the KEF's but like I said earlier, they did sound "clearer, and crisper"...

If you had a choice, Def Tech, Infinity, KEF

Thanks for all the responses. StevieP, do you switch your BP30s from large to small for HT? If the mains were set to large, wouldn't all the LFE be sent to them, rendering the sub useless? That was my main concern, having to chose between the two. I wasn't sure if the Elite would allow...

If you had a choice, Def Tech, Infinity, KEF

I was kinda leaning that way already but I think the little powered subs in the Def Techs would be useless since I already have a pretty good sub. My opinions while listening to them was I was very impressed with the Def Techs but don't think I'll get any use out of the subs because of where...

Quick background. Room dimensions: 15X20X10 ceilings, opening into the 15X15 kitchen. Used for 85% HT, 15% music. My sister works at Ultimate Electronics and I can get the following speakers at about the same price: Def Tech CLR2002, BP2006TL/1 and 2, and BP2X or Infinity ALPHA50, 37C, and...

    HowTo - Staining MDF

Pretty nice Ben! I've done the exact same thing before when I made a TV stand out of MDF. I actually used one of the All-in-one stain urethane's (Bombay Mahogany) from MinWax for 2 coats and finished up with one clear coat of just urethane. For what it was worth, it did the job nicely. Tommy

Weekly Roundup 8/26 (a VERY big week!)

Heads up: Just got back from Best Buy here in Dallas at Walnut Hill. TTT and Stitch didn't ring up with the $5 discount so check your receipts before you leave. They had to go back and credit my account afterwards. Tommy

    HD cable/sat tv

I'll speak for HD sat since that's what I have with DirecTV. Yes, you will be able to access your local channels in HD if 1) They are available in your area. 2) You have an HDTV box, capable of decoding both OTA and HDTV signals. Your standard programming would come via the HDTV box and...

New Toy, New Toy, Woo Hoo.. (Router + Router Table)

I've got the same router. Bought it from Home Depot about 6 months ago and have had no problems what-so-ever. I wish the table was a little bigger, but hey, for $100 you can't complain. I bought a set of the 15 router bits that HD sells next to the router and all are still in good working shape...

    DIY Junkie

Thanks Bill. Dave, I wasn't purposely going through the sites. We build a new home last year and there's still new construction in the area. But I MIGHT need to do that more often! BTW, the tube has made it out of the garage and into one of the spare bedrooms for now. Out of sight out...

Does anyone do pre-cut MDF circles?

Home Depot. All the Home Depots in the DFW area that I've seen carry 24" MDF rounds. Not sure if they cut them there or are shipped that way. Give them a call, can't hurt. Tommy

    DIY Junkie

The reason I'm wanting another is due to the size of the family room, 18X20. It opens up to the kitchen so I'm losing a lot of the umph because of the size. Not much room gain. Not to say that the Shiva doesn't fill it, it's just that I know in a closed room, 1 Shiva would be enough. I...

    DIY Junkie

OK, I became addicted to this habit about a year ago when my wife and I purchased our first home. First project was an EBS Shiva and I love it. Since then I've gone on to build a DIY rack for all of my components and I've been eyeing a set of speakers. Not only has this habit taken off with...

Parts Express DLS 5.25" Cast Frame Woofs.. On Sale $6.00 each!

Any ideas on these being a "drop in" or substitute for any of the already proven DIY kits out there? I've been thinking about building some MTM's and was wondering if these would fit the bill and if so, what design? I've looked at the Audax system and really like it but was trying to go a...

    DIY 5.1 Speakers

Thanks for the input thus far. I'm realizing $500 was a lofty goal so now I'm thinking about $700 for speakers and crossovers. I'm really liking the Audax system, especially the center channel. MarcS, yes it is MTM for the front 3 I was wanting. After looking at the Madisound page, I...
