Yeah its not on the US set either. Guess they weren't able to agree on terms/compensation with the actor, which is usually the reason features suddenly go missing. Bummer. Anyway, this set is absolutely amazing. The original 1999 release of Alien is what got me to buy my first DVD player...
Its great to finally see Bermuda Depths and Don't Be afraid of the Dark getting releases. Does WB hold the rights for Don't Go To Sleep? I'd love to see that one again.
On another note, I'm displeased to see Razorback on there. Both the R2 and especially the R4 releases are loaded with special...
Just as I predicted in the other Waterworld thread, the extended version retains the television edits. I'll still pick this up since I never did own this movie on DVD, but I'll probably be sticking to the "Ulysses Cut" whenever I want to watch it (or just make my own composite version, since the...
Actually the only piece from Ifukube's score that was replaced the excellent march (which was itself played over and over, to the point I was ready to start hurling furniture at the speakers by the end). Everything else is the same.
Just an update for anyone still interested, a poster on CriterionForum.org who received a screener of the new BFI disc confirmed that the poem scene has been inserted into the new print. Here's what the BFI booklet says about it:
From the Criterion blog:
Interesting. if I'm interpreting this correctly, then they're basically saying that BFI's upcoming rerelease will also be missing the scene, as it's not contained on any of the new elements they're working with. It's still possible BFI will include the scene as a...
Well its about %#$@ time! My first viewing of Waterworld was the superior extended cut, which I loved. When I later saw the theatrical cut, I was disappointed that nearly all of my favorite/most memorable moments were completely missing. This is a definite buy for me.
Unfortunately if the...
The scene is also present on the German DVD from Legend Home Entertainment. You're quite right about the wretched picture quality on the BFI disc though. Cut or not, the new Criterion disc is an absolute godsend by comparison.
Don't get too excited. The date listed is actually June 24th 2003. I remember this release was planned but was dropped due to rights entanglements. The uncut Japanese version is available on R3 DVD from Universe (with english subs too), but it's non-anamorphic and the print has a weird green...
If you're referring to the 4-hour version of Greed, then yes actually it was released on video. I have Warner's VHS release and it's still one of my most prized possesions despite being, well, VHS :D
I'd like to add my voice to those who are waiting for this. I have the 4-hour VHS release from WB and I treasure it more than most of my DVD's. Here's hoping that I can someday finally retire one of the last VHS tapes I still watch on a regular basis.
Lets not forget the teaser trailer for Apocalypto, which not only consisted entirely of footage not in the actual movie but also an entirely different cast than the movie as well!
Well this WOULD have been a great opportunity to get all these Godzilla titles, since I don't own any. Unfortunately, some genius thought it would be cute to EXCLUDE the three 70's titles from the 7 disc uber-collection and put Godzilla USA and Godzilla 2000 on BOTH sets. LAME!
Awesome! Videodrome finally gets the special edition treatment...from Criterion, no less! Quite a nice array of features listed there. I hope the "and more!" includes the alternate/extended TV version scenes, as some of those were quite interesting. Can't wait!
I remember seeing a sealed copy of Salo CC ultimately go for $935 on e-bay...from a seller in Hong Kong, no less. I swear some people seem to have more money than they do common sense.
Carnival of Souls Criterion Collection ($36.95 at local Hastings) I'm sure I could have gotten this cheaper online, but Criterion's titles are usually well worth the asking price. -RJ Fielder
I gotta say, the two teaser trailers, despite their fuzzy picture quality, gave me willies: that creepy music, that voice-over ("look into the darkness across the water"), that hand emerging from the water...a shame the trailers for modern horror films can't be more like this, instead usually...
