Also look at the two faces in the GBII 'Workmen' scene. You can see that they are more detailed on the new release, comapred to the other two - being able to see the frown lines etc.
The old r1 is quite a bit softer if you look at the background detail. For example, in the 'Spook Central' comparison, look at thge army guy squat at the back right. In the new r1 release his face is quite detailed, compare that to the smudge that is his face in the old r1 capture.
I have deleted my previous grabs, just so we can keep this thread browsing-friendly for those unfortunate to have lesser internet connections. The following are all the grabs I've managed to obtain personally, and from members of the 'nets 3 main DVD forums: Ghostbusters...
Ghostbusters: The menu is identical to the previous release, just with one of the buildings now coloured the same as the packaging. The video side of the commentary has been dropped as have the trailers. Ghostbusters II: 2 episodes of 'The Real Ghostbusters', namely 'Citizen Ghost' and...
The new Ghostbusters II transfer is gorgeous too, so much better than the old release. Pictures deleted - see post #193 for full comparisons for Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II.
The pack contains of 2 very thin Amaray-style cases (like in the Ren & Stimpy collections), each with the same/similar 'fluorescent slime' artwork to the outer box. The glossy 24-page booklet is full of concept art, photos and bios. My set still said 1.33:1 ratio for Ghostbusters and 2.40:1...
No all three edits that were present in the US theatrical cut are still there. Namely, Jin slitting the officer's throat, Jin cradling Mei, and the removal of blood from Mei's wound.
I watched this last night. This is a film about a child molestor who has done his time in prison and is trying to combat his feelings for female minors. So that we don't sympaphise or judge Bacon's character, we aren't given any details about his past apart from him smelling his sister's hair...
Any chance that anyone has the R3 2-disc Edko release to compare the above shots with? I used PowerDVD to capture the images (with 'keep ratio' selected).
I received Sony's R1 release on Satrday, and after a quick flick through it is definitely cut. There is no blood when she removes the dagger. The set does have both English and Madarin DD5.1 audio. The English dub is okay, and is nowhere near as bad as most; but then what I have listened to...
We have compared the recent US 40th Anniversary Edition of Kubrick's Dr Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb against the UK Special Edition that has been around for almost 3 years. You can find the full, detailed comparison review here.
The Superbit version is definitely the best release to date. Gorgeous anamorphic widescreen transfer and superb DTS audio. Better than any other release to date, even the European 2-disc DTS6.1 releases.
It was originally reported that this would be Superbit. I doubt if we will ever get an audio commentary for The Fifth Element from Besson, Oldman or Willis; and it is very unlikely that Tucker or Holm will record one either. The only person who I think would be up for a commentary would be...
We now have our full review of the November 30th release of Daredevil Director's Cut here. We have also taken the trouble to compare it alongside the 2003's 2-disc theatrical release.
We have taken a look at Monday's UK release of three Franco Nero spaghetti westerns, namely the superb Keoma, the classic Django, and the rather dire Texas, Adios. You can find the full review of these action-packed blood-baths here.
I have the box and the digipack to hand, and the digipack is definitely the way to go. I personally found the box to be flimsy and awful for storing the DVDs (2 arrived off their spindle and floating loose in the box). It doesn't look very impressive close up either. However, the actual...
We've taken a look at Hong Kong Legend's recent UK release of Wing Chun, a period Woo Ping actioner starring Michelle Yeoh and Donnie Yen. You can read the full review here.
