Bob Newhart Season 1 in April

To our friends across the pond- With regard to the differences between "The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart", they are both great sitcoms and I have seen every episode of each series at least 3 times. I like "The Bob Newhart Show" better. Most TV critics and hardcore sitcom fans agree...

Bob Newhart Season 1 in April

Regarding the opening credits being of different lengths: Each season had a completely different recording of the opening and ending credits. This was mandated by the musicians union in those days. At some point they were allowed to re-use the previous season's recording but even then they still...

Bob Newhart Season 1 in April

That's cool that you have seen the unaired pilot. Nick at Nite and TVLand never played it but I have heard the differences you mentioned. The reruns I've seen in syndication have always looked washed out and the color balance seems off. I hope that Fox does even half as good a job on...

Bob Newhart Season 1 in April

Finally... my favorite show of all time on DVD. I don't care how many discs it's on or whether they are 2 sided or not. They will look far better than the VHS tapes and my own homemade DVD's I've been watching for years. I'm really looking forward to the UNAIRED PILOT that's on the last...

    Consolidated thread: ABANDONED TV SERIES

I agree that this thread is a good idea. I'm beginning to worry about "Barney Miller" as well, although it won't be 1 year until Jan 2005.

Still Waiting for The Bob Newhart Show, Odd Couple

Randy- Thanks for your clarification on the Odd Couple being a Paramount property. I somehow had gotten the idea that Fox bought the DVD rights years ago although it was originally a Paramount television production. Hopefully the other Paramount 70's sitcom sets for "Happy Days" and...

Still Waiting for The Bob Newhart Show, Odd Couple

Both of these shows, which are considered sitcom classics by just about everyone, still remail unreleased and I know of no future plans for either on DVD. I believe Fox owns the DVD rights to both the "Bob Newhart Show" and "The Odd Couple". I suspect Fox will not move forward with either of...

    Commercials on DVD?

I'm in the advertising business and I can give a couple sourcse of where to get these types of DVDs: http://www.adweek.com/aw/creative/best_spots/index.jsp They are over $200 for ONE DISC, but if you are really fanatical about it, go for it. You may also try: www.commarts.com Good...

What shows to transfer and what to hold off on?

My opinion is transfer it all. With a standalone DVD recorders now down to around $299 and DVD-Rs about a buck a piece, you can't afford not to. Since the tapes will continue to degrade over time, I think it's best to play it safe. One many of them you'll never get another chance for the same or...

tv show you'd buy but will never make it to dvd

I'm beginning to fear that "The Bob Newhart Show" will never make it to DVD because Mary Tyler Moore was abandoned after only 1 season due to poor sales. These 2 shows were made by many of the same people, at the same time, for the same network, and rights are owned by the same company- Fox...

Idea for future TV on DVD sets

Agreed. The M*A*S*H sets have chapters after the opening credits, and I use them often. It shoud be an industry standard as far as I am concerned.

    Police Squad DVD Series

Paramount should definitely release Police Squad. They released it on 2 laserdiscs. 1 DVD should be no problem to fit 6 episodes which is the entire series. Terriffic show. This one is a no-brainer.

The Odd Couple and Get Smart on DVD...When?

I've recorded all the Odd Couple episodes off TV but would definitely buy the entire run of DVD season sets. I too am surprised that this hasn't been even rumored for release yet, when it is so clearly a classic. Not to mention that it has always been extremely popular in syndication...

    Seinfeld Season DVDs

I also agree with Jason Alexander on all his points. They should not be expected to work for free when they clearly were cut a very unequal deal in the first place. A BILLION dollars is 4000 times more than $250k. Jerry Seinfled was not 4000 times more important to the series than the other...

Hanna Barbera fans rejoice! Jonny Quest, Flintstones, Jetsons coming!

Hanna Barbera fans rejoice! Jonny Quest, Flintstones, Jetsons coming!

I have all the Jetsons episodes which are my personal off-air recordings, but I'd gladly pony up the money for a commercially produced set. I've been waiting for this one. It would be nice to have the entire series (the REAL ones from the sixties) for $60. Flintstones I'm not sure.

    HELL.... Where is MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE?

Same here. Great Show. I'd be good for a "best of" set, or maybe I'd buy the first season and not the others. I think I might get more into it though once I'd seen a few shows and maybe want them all.

How are the Dick Van Dyke sets?

I'm really excited about these new sets. I bought seasons 1 & 2 and I was just blown away at thee quality of the film transfer. You can literally see the threads in the fabrics of people's clothes. And the menus are very well done, with tasteful and appropriately-styled graphics. Overall, a...

Robert Harris on The Bits - 10/3/02 column - OFFICIAL THREAD

Mr. Harris- You mentioned being very impressed with the all-digital Monsters Inc DVD. Being a huge Star Wars fan, I was wondering if you have yet seen the DVD of Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones that has been released to industry insiders and reviewers. I realize that you are not a...

Peter and Ken- Thanks for clarifying this. I guess I've learned that real 70mm (65mm) film origination is truly a rare bird. This makes those beautiful VistaVision films of the late 1950s and early 1960s all the more unique. Thanks again for the info -Rob

Robert Harris on The Bits - 7/1/02 column - OFFICIAL THREAD

Mr Harris: Thanks for your quick response. I did enjoy that talk at the Castro and was really pleased to return to the same theater a year later and see Vertigo looking better than I thought possible. I had only seen the 1984-issue MCA laserdisc and a pretty bad print at the old Fox theater...

Mr. Harris- Thanks for a terriffic article. I understand the restoration process so much better now. I saw your talk at the Castro theater in San Francisco when you were in the midst of restoring "Vertigo" and was really impressed, although I was a bit ignorant at the time on the process. The...
