Review of Sony DRU-700A Dual Layer DVD burner...

I'll definitely upgrade to a DL burner, but from the looks of this one I will have to wait until the second round of burners. No thanks to 45+ minute burns.

    Somebody Please Explain DVD-R, etc.

Also, the + camp is in the process of adding dual layer recording. Current +R drives will not be able to do it, though some may be able to with a firmware update. As of now, no -R technology developers have demonstrated dual layer recording.

Do homemade DVD labels cause problems?

A better solution than labeling is printing. Printable DVDs and printers capable of doing it are quite cheap nowadays.

Y'all should look into buying media online. I usually get Ritek G04 media from www.meritline.com for around a buck a disc. A good resource page for DVD burners and media is www.cdfreaks.com.

Need a GOOD .WAV to .AC3 encoder

A good frontend for BeSweet when working with AC3 is AC3Machine. For a guide, look here: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/userguides/185077.php#8 Both are freeware and links to download are at the top of the page above. Keep in mind that this guide is meant for DVD compliant AC3, so you...

    NBA Live 2004

I played it last weekend, and I was mostly impressed with what they have done. I really like the jump step along with the two shoot buttons. It took a few games to get used to it, but it really does work well. It doesnt pay off to go to the hoop every single time anymore. In Live '03, I found...

Having 1 million problems burning DVD

I have used VirtualDub to merge AVI files, and I believe that it would work the same way with mpegs. You might have to multiplex the audio files to their respective clips before you merge them, though. Try www.doom9.net for many guides and extremely helpful forums on video conversion.

    HTF Madden 2004 PS2 Group

I'm down for some action. I think I'll go with the Seahawks, though I've never played with them before. Good young secondary and receiving core, not to mention Shaun Alexander....Mmmm. That start date works good for me, though I wont be able to start playing until I get off work on Sunday...

Graphing calculators - gotta buy one

If she is going to be getting into calculus anytime soon, I would vote for a TI-89. It even solves simple differential equations. The 86 might have calculus funtions as well, not sure. The 83 is no slacker for most non-calc stuff, though.

    Car MP3 Units: Preferences

I was in the same boat as you last December, and I finally decided on a Kenwood blah-X859. It was the only unit available at the time that fit all of my needs: completely blacked out when turned off (detachable faces dont cut it these days, the best option is to not let them know you have it), a...

Complete Cowboy Bebop Movie DVD Specs

Subtitles change the image on the screen. I can't believe they would have the audacity to put these words all over the screen, actually COVERING UP a portion of the image! Oh my, how could anyone support such an awful thing?!! In all seriousness, you are kidding yourself if you don't see both...

    Buying Tools, Sears?

[plug for my company] All Ace Hardware handtools have a lifetime warranty. [/plug for my company] That being said, try yard sales! Its great to buy some broken tool that has a lifetime warranty and get it replaced for free just by bringing it to the store.

    Audience participation

I love going to the theater. The atmosphere is great on opening nights. If someone's cell phone goes off, just stand up and yell at them. Works for me. When I saw Episode II opening night, the Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions trailer got a lot of cheers. The next trailer was for Like Mike. I...

2 new 1600x1200 Doom III Screenshots! Amazing!

I agree, Aaron. Many a time I have longed for a K&M while losing horribly in 4-player Goldeneye on the N64.

Do you get carded when you use your credit card?

I work in a hardware store, and let me tell you...most non-managerial clerks who are not under strict supervision could care less if the card is stolen or not. My view is if you are THAT paranoid about someone stealing your card, then either use cash/checks, or simply be responsible enough to...

Gateway vs. Dell -- how can Gateway be so much cheaper ?

Danny brings up a good point about the quality of components. Since they use a lot of re-branded items, its nearly impossible to find out what you are really getting from Dell or Gateway. I'd recommend a DIY frankenstein if you don't mind the loss of tech support. Also, I'm sure there is a local...

    Tempest as Car Sub

Mike, I've built a few sub boxes and would highly recommend doing it yourself. It's one of the easiest construction projects you can tackle. 3/4" MDF is perfect. No Bracing needed unless you are going with a rather large or elaborate design. What I use is wood glue where the MDF meets, and...
