    Which B&W would compare to a Paradigm Studio 40, 20, CC470 setup

I would also agree that the paradigm studio v.3 is more comparable to the CDM line in sound, but here in Canada the CDM series is quite a bit more expensive. I would also agree that the two series are quite different and would suit different tastes and needs. As said before, you'll have to...

    Marantz + Mordaunt Short Premiere

That's a great package for both movies and music. I've heard the premiere/marantz setup before and as long as the room isn't too big and you don't listen at very high levels, then I'm sure you'll be happy since marantz and MS mate very well. As for cables, you won't need anything fancy, and the...

    B&W 600 series vs. 600i series - Differences????

The 600i series was B&W's budget series before they came out with the newer 600 series 1. The "i" stands for "improved", but I don't remember what the improvements were over their predecessors. The models in the line were the 600i, 610i, 620i, 630i, 640i and the 640i was the only model with a...

    Need help finding surrounds

Check out Audio Advisor (www.audioadvisor.com). They are clearing out stock of Infinity Intermezzo speakers at good prices. The Intermezzo 2.6, bookshelf speaker with powered 6.5" woofer, could suit your needs. It is selling for half of list right now. The 2.6s are well reviewed and look sharp...

Lots of Questions about improving a cheap sony speaker. Help!

If you really want to stick with the same Krell integrated then your idea of purchasing from the Q series line and later upgrading is worthwhile. I imagine you should be able to upgrade for simply the difference in price between the model you trade-in and the one you really want.

Lots of Questions about improving a cheap sony speaker. Help!

I have to agree with John, don't put any money or effort into the Sony speakers. Spend less on the integrated and buy some good speakers with the money you save. Since you like the Krell, another possibility for an integrated is the sim audio moon I-3. It's only rated at 100 watts/channel but...

B&W Nautilus 805 or Full Kef Q System.

To be honest, I didn't at all like the Q3s when I demoed them at the store. That's odd though, since I've heard their egg satellites and owned the older reference 3s and really like both. Anyways, Kef do make great speakers and the Q series gets great reviews. I would certainly like to hear them...

Best floorstanding speaker in the 2-3K range

I would recommend the Reference 3A MM De Capo i speakers. They are not floorstanders but fulfill all your criteria. Excellent bass down to 42 Hz, excel with tubes, 92 dB efficient, nominal 8 ohm load, bi-wire or bi-amp ready, and very musical but not necessarily warm sounding. Definitely worth a...

    Kef Q series...(must read)

I just listened to the Q3s today and I was very disappointed. I am also a fan of Kef speakers, I used to own a pair of Reference 3s, but the Q3s sounded dull, lifeless and coloured. I tried them in two different rooms with different setups but those qualities remained. I was shocked, especially...

B&W 801's as fronts, JM Lab Cobalt as rears: WILL THIS WORK?

Both companies make great products but they also sound very different. I don't think that mixing them together would work very well, although I've never tried it. Blending, or timbre matching is important in creating a consistent and cohesive sound-field in surround, but even the newer B&Ws...

    Velcro on speaker stands

Instead of using two sided tape or velcro, another option is blu-tak or a similar product. It's probably more secure than velcro (your speakers won't budge), and easier to remove from speaker and stand than two sided tape (it peels off nicely).

Best bookshelf... Between $1000 and $3000 a pair. Opinions.

I second the Reference 3A De Capo i suggestion and I'll add Oskar Aulos to the mix. Two very different pairs of speakers, but each excellent in their own right.

    Help me decide on sat's.

Check out Mordaunt Short 302 satellites and 304 center, www.mordauntshort.com and Kef's KHT 2005 or 2005.2 satellite system at www.kef.com In addition to these, I've also heard the paradigms and definitives mentioned by kevin, neither of which I think can compete with either the Mordaunt Shorts...

Tweeter crackling :( Dealer says no issue!

I had the exact same problem with a new pair of studio 40s and a studio cc v.2 recently. Im my case, only one of the two 40s and the cc was crackling, most notably on the S&V test tones previously mentioned. I could also tell the difference between the two studio 40 speakers with music, but it...

    FS: B&K AV5000 5 channel amp

Great sounding amp that would make an excellent upgrade from a receiver's internal amps or partner with a quality pre-pro. Power output is 105 watts x 5 and while it sounds refined and detailed it also has the dynamics and bass impact needed to make movies and music come alive. A couple of very...

    Sub purely for Music

A Paradigm sub would certainly be a good choice. I would also recommend you look at D-Box sub-woofers, http://www.d-box.com. They offer great performance at a reasonable price. I've heard the Sub 600 (now discontinued) and it delivered lots of clean, deep bass with musical material. I also...

    Sub purely for Music

Hi Jack, The place to audition B&W and Paradigm would be Sounds of Music. A&B Sound sells Energy and I think Future Shop sells JBL. I don't know a thing about Adire, but Dustin has that covered. I do not personally own any HT gear (more of a 2ch audiofool), but I am interested in HT and I...

Do speakers need a break in period?

I think speakers do require a break-in period and agree with John that the duration varies. In my experience, some speakers greatly benefit from breaking-in (B&W comes to mind) while others undergo more subtle improvements.

    B&W Decisions

I have to agree with everyone else and suggest you choose a CDM combo over the 600 series. If you don't mind bookshelf speakers, go for the CDM1NTs with a good sub. Save the money from the 7NT (with sub) or 9NT (without sub) and purchase a CDM center speaker. Just so you know, I used to own...

These are sealed enclosure bookshelf speakers from the early nineties with a 6.5" woofer and 1" tweeter. One speaker has two small nicks that are not noticeable unless a few feet away. Otherwise, the pair is in great condition. I have the original box and manual. These would make great...
