Jason, those are the stands I have for the AS-b2's and have them filled with sand. Haven't had them for long but the midrange seems a little better than the floorstanders but won't give you the deep bass. I personally like the looks of floorstanders better but always come back to bookshelves as...
I've heard the Polk Rti10's and they aren't very good for music being overly bright. I would listen to the Athena speakers, much better and cheaper to boot.
People have been getting over $300. selling them on their own without shipping charges. All you're really doing is avoiding the selling hassle. Outlaw otoh makes a profit on you going separates and also on the 1050 as b-stock.
I am not a big hk fan but after spending time this weekend with the avr230 I'm pretty impressed especially after my fatiguing sessions with the Sony 2000es.
All depends on your musical tastes and room acoustics. HK has a warm sound with a full midrange and somewhat forward presentation that might tame a somewhat bright setup. The Sony is fairly neutral with a more laid back perspective erring slightly on the bright or lean side. In my setup it...
I auditioned the Denon 2803 and the sound was as John described. In addition to being not as clear in the highs the mid bass was rather weak. The overall sound was just too laid back but with the right music it can be very appealing.
FWIW, I had an Outlaw 1050 for 2 1/2 years until I sold it about 6 months ago looking for a receiver with more current features like Pro-Logic 2. I auditoned many receivers under 1K including Yamaha, integra, HK, Denon, and NAD. Although they all were pretty satisfying for Home theater none of...
I've listened to the rx-v1300 and although sounding quite good the fixed 90hz crossover was a deal killer for me. I am presently auditioning the dennon avr-2803 for the 2nd time. The first unit did not sound right for some reason sounding weak and dull. Initially the 2nd unit sounds better and...
I've listened to it at home and really did not like it. I've owned a Outlaw 1050 for some time and for music it doesn't come close. Weak, anemic and uninvolving sound is the only way to describe it. This was using the coaxial dig input. This was my first experience with Denon and expected a...
I haven't heard the B&w's you mentioned but the omni-sats have no guts, the studio 20's tweeter is grating and the lsi's are boring. Sorry, I call it like it is. If you want to end your speaker search for under a grand you might want to start here...
The rockets and others speakers like Dahlquist appear to have been designed to have a warm, laid back, soothing sound, as this is what a lot of people prefer. I don't. Warm, soothing, non-fatiquing are all euphuisms for boring. And as I see it; boring is not much better than irritating. There...
Have not heard the boodshelves but did hear one of the towers. Smooth mids and highs but a bit undercontrolled bass. You could do worse. I believe AR is coming out with a new high end line in the spring. Have not heard the athenas.
I listened to them today along with the klipch rf-5's. THe mirages were had a very wide open soundstage but felt they actually sounded better when standing up. Sitting down they were too diffused and overall they did not have enough meat on the bones and although a sub helped I still prefered...
You will have to experiment to get the best positioning. The corner placement will re-enforce the bass which could lead to some boominess. I have my sub placed in the middle of my speakers slightly ahead of them which gives the best integration with my mains and without the boominess.
I recently heard a brief demo of the energy c7 and thought they sounded very good although I'm not crazy about the silver baffle. It had a very clear and balanced sound but without reaching real deep into the bass. Most of the Mirage speakers I've heard sound too diffused with a lumpy midbass...
I have heard the Klipsch Ref but not the rockets so part of my comments will be educated conjecture. For HT the rockets will not match the forwardness & dynamics of the klipsch, so movies with huge explosions will be more concussive thru klipsch. Conversely, the rockets using the ring tweeter...
Does anyone know the makeup of the woofers used in the rockets, such as driver basket construction and/or magnet and voice coil size? Their web site says they're a custom designed long throw driver but does not give any other details.
It depends on how many vices you have. For me, I change speakers every year and some have been very good. My wife is not a big fan of this but since I really don't spend many on other toys she usually gives in, although it was much harder in the beginning. She also knows if I get the upgrade...
With the vifa tweeter and the bigger woofer, on paper at least, the RS250 looks like it might squash the rs150. Is this how it plays out or is it possible the smaller woofer might integrate more smoothly to the fairly high 3.8 crossover of the tweeter. Well, please tell us, inquiring minds would...
Room placement could be partially at fault as I was listening fairly nearfield at 7' away with the speakers 6' apart. Perhaps they needed a bigger room. Still, most other speakers work fine with this setup. I've just never heard multi-driver speakers sound as coherent as simpler designs...
