I organize a monthly screening of Italian films for a local Italian cultural group. I'm having a hard time finding something relatively modern (10 years old or younger), available on region 1 dvd, and while not a "family film" per se, at least not something unsuitable for a young person to be in...
From rightstuf.com: DVD Features: English 5.1 Audio, Japanese 5.1 Audio with English subtitles, Commentary by Japanese Voice Cast, and Previews Date Available - Sep 13 2005 Anyone know if there will be a box for this?
Sorry for the vagueness of my original post. Here's some more info: I'm with a film society and we do various screening events around town. Some we charge admission, some we don't. At the moment we have a public performance licence from Criterion Pictures that covers us to publically screen...
- If the film is considered in the public domain, is if legal to screen in any format? For instance an old Buster Keaton film. It's considered public domain but is ok for me to screen the Kino dvd? Do I need to pay Kino for the rights to do this? - What is the best online source for the most...
Thanks for the help, guys. It's greatly appreciated. I've got a source for a 2004 16mm print of It Came From Outer Space in 3d. I've got a Bell & Howell 1592 projector with a 250W lamp. Any idea if this would be adequate? ShaunS
Thanks for the help everyone. One other question (perhaps better suited for another forum but related none the less): What about films on 16mm? Do the cheap red/blue glasses work at all on that format? I ask because my film society are thinking about bringing in a 16mm print of It Came From...
If there is another thread concerning this, please post it. I searched and came up with nothing. I'm wondering about what 3D films are available on DVD. I'm not looking for IMAX type things, but movies. Also, how good is the 3d effect when using a digial projector onto a screen? Also, do the...
I'm actually looking into doing something very similar. Screening DVDs at a local pub for free. I'd really appreciate any help anyone could provide with this. Here's some info I've got: As was stated, any "public" screenings of dvds are illegal without consent. Here in Canada there are a...
Over at the forum at www.animeondvd.com I was following a thread on the new Eva Platinum editions (until things started getting nasty...). I don't believe this new version is progressive (not that I really know what that means, but people seemed kinda upset about this). As far as the jitter...
DaveGTP, Everytime I see those screenshots I get more and more excited for this to arrives. Reassures me that I did the right thing in selling my original set. Now if only dvdsoon would ship it... Shayne, Bravo. Well done. Shall we close shop on this thread now? :D One other thing, I am...
The movie is a fantastic ending to the series, in my opinion. To make a long story short, the final two episodes of the television series weren't all they could have been to many fans of the show. So the director created the film. Whether or not it's the "proper" ending is up for argument. Some...
Simon, There are 25 or 26 episodes and a 2 hour film as well. Each episode continues from the previous one with the story arc properly ending with the film. Watching them out of order would make no sense. Hell, some people argue it makes no sense watching it in order. But you can ignore those...
Still waiting for DvdSoon to ship this. Any early comments? Pretty box? I have a feeling I done right in selling my old set when this was announced. Best television show ever. ShaunS
I can't wait for Fanny & Alexander. I've only seen the VHS version of the film, and that was years ago. I own all but The Magic Flute in terms of Criterion's Bergman dvds. Anyone care to comment on this one? For some reason I've always held back on purchasing it. Along with the recent MGM...
I agree with Grady... the tv series moves along at a much slower pace and as such allows you to become so familiar with the characters that when those great gut wrenching moments happen (as Bergman can create like no other) it is far more powerful. I'd argue that by watching the film first...
Well, I finally finished watching the last of the set. What a fantastic buy. I hadn't seen any of these before and, out of the lot, my immediate favourite has got to be Gun Crazy. The visual style of it alone was enough to keep my eyes glued to the screen. The boxing match in The Set Up was...
I'm with Sebastian. Start with the TV series. I'd even say that after watching Cowie's comparison afterwards that you don't really even have to watch the film, but it is great none the less. I'd say the film condenses the themes of the film. Whole aspects of the plot were removed in order to...
I'm a huge fan of all the Kieslowski stuff I've seen (Double Life, Dekalog, 3 Colors), but I have yet to see any of these. How do they compare? (in other words, talk me into preordering the whole lot!) ShaunS
Just got the double dvd set of Renoir and Kurosawa's versions of The Lower Depths. I watched the Renoir version last night and noticed a lot of scenes had an annoying flicker (or maybe shudder is a better term). Almost as though the print was loose. My dvd player went bellow up the other day...
I've never seen the longer TV version, but I found the TV version of Scenes From a Marriage much better than the film. 8 hours of Bergman. Probably not a healthy marathon but one I'll put myself through none the less. ShaunS
Am I the only one that thinks Criterion doing a SE of The Rock and armageddon was a brilliant idea? These are always brought up in debates about the merits of Criterion and I've never really understood why. I've always seen Criterion's release of those films as merely their foray into a...
from Criterion's Website:
Only one I've seen is The Most Dangerous Game, which was campy and fun. Probably would never pick it up individualy, but I do enjoy my Criterion Box Sets. Comments on the other films appreciated. ShaunS
Well, Amazon.ca finally got the Bergman box to me. Won't be able to watch it till I get back to where my dvd players is, but it seems to be the "fixed" version (based on the info below). Still waiting on some definitive comparison, though (Greg?) From an earlier post:
Correct me if I'm wrong, but were not Criterion a bit slow on the ball to switching to DVD from LD? As Marc said above, they are a small company and can't afford to switch right away to new technology. I'm of the mindset that it will take a looooong time before average joe will move on from DVD...
Has anyone received the "fixed" version from amazon.ca as of yet? It was released on April 20th but has yet to ship for me. They have 2 listings for it, one says ships 2-5 days, the other (the one I'm waiting on) says 2-5 weeks. I'd cancel and order elsewhere if it were not for the fact that...
