How far away do you sit? The size of projection is awesome, but so is the picture on direct views. I don't think you can go wrong either way. Typically RPTVs look worse in showrooms than direct view. It all comes down to which you like more, but don't trust showroom perormance too much...
Thanks a lot. How do I get in on it? Any idea on the price? When are the sets available? I noticed that they are buying the hlm507W, what's the difference between that set and the 5065W? Any idea on the end date of the power buy? Sorry for so many questions. Thanks again.
They look awesome but I can't find anywhere to get them. The Samsung sites only lists dealers like Best Buy and Sears which i seriously doubt will cary them. Also, if anyone has one, what are your thoughts?
My TWC box is a SA3100HD, but i just picked mine up at the shop. they gave me some cheap cables, but i use them because they look fine. Depends on the electrical situation and the length of the run.
What I've found is that the XBOX DVD player is very good for the value. It is extremely convenient and looks awesome on both the tvs i've had it on. Never a single problem like the skipping reported on ps2. I wouldn't sell the ps2.
John, sorry, its free to upgrade from digital to HD. The bos is the Scientific Atlanta 3100HD. The Box has component out for HD. For SD stuff there is S-Video, Composite, and Coax. You can use components for everything but the picture becomes smaller. For audio, there is Coax Digital and RCA...
I would strongly reccomend the JVC. I was very close to buying it before I decided to go projection. The picture looks great, Auto 16:9, DVI/HDCP, and can probably be found for around 1,800$
I can definitely account for Mitsubishi reliability. My last projection from them lasted 13 years. The Gold and Gold Plus series basically have all of the features of last years Platinums, plus an extra component input. I think you will be able to get a 2002 55 platinum for a great price. 2200...
You can't go wrong with a Wega. You can go a lot bigger than 25 with that budget. A good starter would be the 27fv300, for 750 i think. The 32 incher is about 1100. You could even go with a HD Wega within your budget. Definitely the 32HS20 and maybe the 32 HS500.
The XBR2 does have some features over the HS, and it probably can be found for below 4000$ now. However, I would definitely wait for the new Sony line available late July/early August. The 57/65WV700s are the high end sets. Features include DVI/HDCP, HD Microfocus CRTs, a wideband video amp...
If you can get them to sell you the xbr800 for 1988, I wouldn't pass that up. The list on the HS500 is 200 less than the xbr, so i bet you could get your store down pretty far on it. Did they say when they are getting the xbr800 in?
I was originally committed to the Sony, but the JVC is a very attractive set. It is also available now, and can be had for about 1900$ at my local A/V shop.
All the information available on the Sony is here:

This is the info available on the JVC:

Yes, SonyStyle is not very well maintained, definitely wrong about those specs. However i would definitley look at the new 36HS500, coming out it August. It is HD, 2 component, DVI/HDCP, and will start about 2000. Good luck
John, read the first article on that thread you gave me. Uncompressed HD material runs at 1200 mb/s which is 1.2 gigs a second. It will be compressed on the disc and then uncompressed when the signal i sent to the display, if it uses DVI.
John, sorry about the HDCP argument on the new Sonys again. The way I understand HDCP, is that the display is wired in a way that doesn't allow copying, adding to the fact that there is no way to copy uncompressed HDTV, about 1.4 gigs a second. Someone please clarify, because I would like to...
Good decision on waiting for this set. Looks awesome. It's going to be a little wider than the xbr450 but a little lighter too. The release is scheduled for agust.
Good choices. I saw the hs500 at Best Buy and am counting the days till the 36 comes out. I wish Sony would have saved us 200 dollars by excluding the memory stick port. Great choice though. 36fs13 sounds goood too. My friend has one and its a solid set. I didn't see a single of the infamous...
Considering your viewing habits, I would recomend a 4:3 set. No matter how good stretch modes are, they aren't perfect. People are still fat, and I can't stand that. If you don't stretch, you get annoying black bars on the sides, and burn in potential. Even if you get a 4:3 set and burn the top...
John, The US press release said that Thirteen of their sets would have DVI/HDCP, I think all of them. HDCP doesn't decode the HD signal like a set top box. It's not an internal tuner. The signal just can't be copied, like a DVD. I think this is right, but someone fell free to let me know if im...
Jack is right, 16:9 squeezes provide full resolution to 16:9 sources, so its just like having a widescreen with black bars on the top and bottom. A few facts about the DVI/HDCP on the new Sony sets. 1. All of the new HDTVs from Sony will have them. The way I understand HDCP, the copy...
