    Incredibles killed my sub

Me too. BTW I watched it again yesterday with my new Velo and it handled it no problem. It sounded much better than the Kenwood both before and after its unfortunate demise :D

    Incredibles killed my sub

I still have the Kenwood, but I am not sure yet what I am going to do with it. It has a claimed 100W plate amp, but the enclosure is only for a 6 1/2" driver. I am thinking about using the amp to experiment with some DIY stuff, but not sure yet. If I decide not to keep it I will let you know.

    Incredibles killed my sub

For what it is worth, I have had a chance to do some listening with the new Velo for a few days. I can honestly say that compared to the Kenwood the Velo is great. The kenwood was definatley VERY boomy and not very clean, the new Velo is not boomy and seams pretty tight. I have not had a chance...

    Incredibles killed my sub

We were watching the incredibles this afternoon and all of a sudden my sub bottomed out and the from that point pop pop pop. I pulled the cover and sure enough three holes. Two in the actual cone and one in the suspension. Not a great loss, it was the only thing remaining from an old Kenwood...

Crazy to buy a 4:3 HDTV??

I went through the same thing 18 months ago. What I did was bought the Sony 53 HS30. This is a 4:3 set but has a widescreen mode. In this mode it compresses the image when you watch a widescreen image. The advantage is that the set does not "paint" the top and bottom bars so you get the full...

Galactically Stupid statement for BB salesman

This is the reason why I do not shop at BB anymore. The only reason that I even went in there was because no one else local carries the AR cables :frowning: . I usually use Tweeter now, granted they are a chain also, but at least they employ people that at least have a clue as to what they are...

    HD Formats

Basically the number indicates the the number or horizontal lines or resoltuion ie 480 720 960 an 1080. Then there is the i or p, these indication interlaced or progressive. With interlaced, the display "paints every other line going down the screen and then fill in the remaining lines coming...

Galactically Stupid statement for BB salesman

I stopped in the local best buy to pick up a new toslink cable for my DVD player. I exclusively use the AR cables. As I was reaching to grab the AR cable the salesperson stopped and asked what I was connecting. I told him a DVD player. When I told him that he reached and grabbed the $80.00...

    RG6 Quad Shield?

Brad, another option is the snap-n-seal connectors. We used those exclusively in the head-end when I worked for Comcast. these connectors slip over the cable and use a compression fitting that is pushed in between the connector and the fitting. They are easy to use and I have never seen one...

    Local CBS HDTV not Widescreen

I just had digital cable with HDTV installed (Comcast No. VA)and was excited about watching the 2 hour CSI in HD tonight. I was really suprised to see that it was not widescreen. What gives. I noticed that alot of the HD content for the locals is 4:3 aspect ratio. Is CSI HD supposed to be...

I just bought a system, is it any good?

Jay, Just a thought. I do not have personal experience with the RCA system, but from what I understand it is on the low end. Now the monster cable that you bought is probably more than what you need, and definatley overpriced. and the 16 guage wire is fine, but you can get the same quage wire...

    Equipment rack above tv....

Ed, Rockler carries the hinges for glass doors. You can have a local glass shop cut the glass to the size that you need and then use one of the hinge sets from Rockler to mount them. Here are a few of them that they have Glass door hinge 1 Glass door hinge 2 Glass door hinge 3...

    Displaying HDTV

Chris, Not sure about the 960i input on your set, but as far as the ability to hook up both the DVD and the HDTV tuner there are many component video switchers available. If you have not already, check out the new Tweeter on 234 near 66. They can most likely answer your question and sale you...

    Possible for DIY sub design

Jeremy, Thanks for the input. It was your web site that really got me thinking about a DIY sub. Plus this is a good way to combine my two hobbies. I like the idea of making the enclosure so that I can use a different driver, and by using the plate anp box. I will give that serious...

    Possible for DIY sub design

I have been thinking about making an attempt at a DIY sub. I have a complete woodworking shop already so the wood tools and skills are not a problem. The problem that I have is if I spend any more money on my HT the wife is going to kill me (~about $4500.00) in the past 6 months. I currently...

    Convergence, How Often?

I have a Sony KP-53HS30 that I purchased in July. I have set it up with Avia, and I had a service call on it in October to set convergence and focus. I just replaced my DVD player so this weekend I used the Avia to reset audio and video. While I was at it, I put up the Avia convergence grid, and...

Looking for a good shop in VA, DC, MD area..

I am not impressed at all with Myer Emco. They sold my wifes uncle a system with installation a couple of months back. They sold him a Pioneer Elite 50" plasma :emoji_thumbsup: and a Bose lifestyle 5.1 system . They charged him ~$4000.00 for installation of the system. He came by to...

Info on Monster MPHTS700HP Surge Suppressor

I stopped off at BB yesterday evening to pick up the HTS700, but they did not have any. I looked around and they did have an HT800. The only difference between the HT800 and the HTS800 is the phone line connection. I went ahead and picked it up since I do not have a phone line connected to any...

Info on Monster MPHTS700HP Surge Suppressor

I am planning to add surge suppression to my HT, and So far I am looking at the Monster MPHTS700HP from Best Buy. The specs on their web site are pretty lacking and I can not find this model on the Monster web site, so I am assumming that this model is built just for BB. For various reasons I am...

feed direction for AR digital coax cable

Kevin, I e-mailed AR as you suggested and this is the response that I received from them "The Performance cable is not directional like the Monster cable. It doesn't make a difference which end you use." So that is that, thanks to all that replied
