Please Kill me, I'm an idiot.

I don't know how this idea will be received from a common lurker, but I enjoyed this thread so much and empathized with Mike to such a great degree that I wanted to do something for him to ease his pain and help him enjoy his new set. What do people think about chipping in 25 cents each to a...

    Bubba Ho-Tep

Little off-topic, but fans of this movie should read Joe R. Lansdale's excellent short story (more of a novella) that the film is based upon. It's available in his "High Cotton" collection. Highly recommended reading, as is almost of his work for fans of dark mystery/humor.

Need IN LIVING COLOR out on DVD

David, I also would LOVE to see this show released - presonally, I think that Jim Carrey and Damon Wayans have never been funnier in any of their subsequent endeavors. Unfortunately, Peter Staddon from FOX told us that this show has little, if any, chance for a release at all in the future...

Hello. I am +5 on the GTL at DVDTalk and have the following for trade. All are opened, but in mint condition. I am most interested in trades for titles on my want list, but will certainly consider any offers made. Please try to keep trade offers limited to those with similar or equal price...

Viable alternative for watching unstretched 4:3 material on some 16:9 RPTV's...

Manuel, Great idea and post! I have the panny 53WX42 and have been using JUST when I (rarely) watch broadcast tv, but I may switch over to your method. The panny remote I have even allows you to create the 3 small PIPs w/ the touch of one button - "search" if I remember correctly...

    Center Channel placement on RPTV?

Hello all - I'm (finally) taking delivery of a panny 53WX42 today, and I was wondering if it would be alright to place my center channel speaker (20 lbs or so) on top of the set. I've heard of bowing experiences, but usually only with multiple items (like bulky receivers) on top. Thanks...

First impressions of my panny 53WX42

Josh, thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately our HT room is also our living room, so the closed-door theory won't work. But the plastic/wood sheet certainly will, and is cheap/easy to boot. Also, my girlfriend has been talking about making theater curtains for the set - obviously not as much...

First impressions of my panny 53WX42

No protective screen on the WX42? Hmmm... while I'm thrilled that glare won't be an issue (GF likes watching movies with the light on sometimes), we do have a dog who is not generally destructive or clumsy (and has *never* jumped up or scratched appliances, or paid any attention to any of our...

First impressions of my panny 53WX42

Tony and Josh, You guys are killing me! Or rather my patience. After both of your recommendations, I placed my order late last week for the WX42. Now the wait.... mine should arrive around the 12th of next month (shipping from the east coast warehouse, which is why it's taking a little longer...

Be honest....Since most of my dvds are 2:35:1 is burn in that much of a threat???

Chris, Some DVD players *can* move the 2.35 image around the screen, like the malata n996 - not as nice as the popular panny progressive models, but still a nice player (region free as well), and *very* helpful for avoiding screen burn-in. Having this player was one of the reasons that I...

    Opinions on Panasonic PT53WX42?

Josh, I sure hope that you like the new set, pre and post AVIA - I plunked down my cash (or rather, plastic) yesterday on that model, and I'm a bit nervous as it's my first RPTV (and my first TV that cost over $300)... Mike

    Burn-in question

Would moving a 4:3 image around the screen for every hour of 4:3 material help reduce the possibility of screen burn-in? I watch a decent (maybe 10%) amount of 4:3 material on DVD (TV shows, older films), and I have a malata n996, which allows you to pan the DVD image anywhere you'd like on...

Should I Buy a RPTV Knowing I'll be Moving at Least Twice?

Dave, The projector option certainly is tempting, but a little more complicated than I'm looking to deal with right now. My girlfriend is *barely* o.k. with the RPTV, and I think a projector and screen might cause more trouble than it's worth (until I'm in a nicer house with a real salary...

Should I Buy a RPTV Knowing I'll be Moving at Least Twice?

Thank you all very much for the reassurances. I'll be purchasing the TV next Wednesday, and hopefully be happy as a pig in slop two weeks from then.

Should I Buy a RPTV Knowing I'll be Moving at Least Twice?

Hello all - I'm about to take the plunge and upgrade from an old 27" Sharp TV to a 53" Panasonic, but first I wanted to get people's opinions on whether I should be reluctant to buy knowing that I'll be moving in the near future. My situation: I am now a graduate student, will be moving in...

    Opinions on Panasonic PT53WX42?

Tony, I'm convinced. Sadly, I'm heading out of town soon, so I can't order the set until next wednesday, which already seems like a wait. Of course, I still haven't mentioned any of this to my Significant Other, but she owes me a decent amount of cash, so perhaps *she'll* be the one to buy...

    Opinions on Panasonic PT53WX42?

Tony, Re: the "old tv" bit, I found this set on clearance at an online retailer and the wary consumer in me figured that it must be an older model that they are trying to clear out. Whoops! Great to hear that the set's a winner, doubly so given the price point. I've never had anything...

    Opinions on Panasonic PT53WX42?

Hello all, I'm somewhat of a home theater newbie, so cut me a little slack, okay : ) I've cobbled together a decent audio setup and now I think it's time for a widescreen TV. As you can tell from the thread subject, I'm looking at the Panny PT53WX42. Any opinions? I watch virtually no...

Still no John Waters bonus DVD!

Hello All - Did anyone have any luck tracking down New Line's customer service contact info for this problem? New Line cashed my check back in December - I know it takes them a while to send out the disc, but this is a bit much! Thanks, Mike
